How do I get a bridge? I'm locked out of 2/3rds of the island due to a lack of a bridge

You get a vaulting pole from Blathers pretty early on (I think just as soon as he shows up in the tent?) and can cross rivers from that.

You can place a single bridge a bit after that. Nook will ask you about it.

You can build bridges freely (well, not "free", they cost money, but whenever you want) after about a week.

Lmfao.

What they did was obviously very dumb.

However, it should be a lesson to Trump that his words have weight, and that he shouldn't be brazenly throwing out alleged cures in a time when people are scared and confused. There are a lot of people who follow him extremely closely, and stuff like this was bound to happen when he explicitly touted this as a cure.

Obviously it isn't solely his fault, and the couple did something extremely stupid...but nonetheless, he should really realize that, as a leader with a fairly dedicated following, he really shouldn't be promoting untested and potentially dangerous things like this. I don't think it's that unreasonable to say that Trump should be more responsible in what he advocates for.

Someone compared it to that Twilight Zone episode with the world ending due to drifting towards the sun (except jk it was a dream and it's going the opposite, but you know), and yeah, it does feel like that.

I was actually supposed to go to Springfield later this week, but company firm is doing mandatory work from home until I hear otherwise. I was kinda looking forward to Springfield Brewing Company's mac & cheese. That shit is great.

I strongly suspect that Springfield has a fucking lot of cases, honestly.

There are only three confirmed there as of now, but from what I hear, the testing is staggeringly bad there. My mom works at a nursing home there, where they have a suspected case from a woman whose daughter was traveling out-of-country, visited her mom, and then her mom got really sick a few days later. They tried ordering a test for the woman, but they were not able to secure one. As big as Springfield is, and for as bad as the testing has been, I think it's going to get hit really hard.

It's also a big hub for nearby towns (such as mine, 20~ minutes away), and I expect it to sweep through the entire region once it hits.

If you do end up going, be careful. I'm thinking that there are far more cases out there than the three that are currently being reported.

Go to store now for SD card. Or just delete software you don't see yourself using in the near future.

Issue there is that the only place in town that sells them is Wal-Mart, and mine tends to carry cheaper brands that I'd rather not use as my sole SD card. I'm kinda iffy about it really.

I was actually at Best Buy the other day and I was looking at official Switch SD cards, and I considered snagging one just due to this precise situation, but I held off. I'm starting to regret it now, though.

As far as deleting stuff, I don't think I could delete enough to make room. Most of the stuff on my Switch is either stuff I play on and off (Mario Maker 2/Baba is You), stuff I haven't gotten to yet (Hollow Knight/two of the four Shovel Knight campaigns), and then Cuphead which I'm keeping on there while awaiting the DLC. There's also patches/DLC for stuff I play regularly like Three Houses/Smash, too, which I similarly don't want to delete.

...I also live in a nowhere town with 1.5 mbps net, so downloading things is a massive pain, and the idea of re-downloading everything is a huge pain. A lot of those took 6-8 hours each to download.

Not trying to make excuses, but physical is highly, highly preferable if at all possible. It's just a matter of if that's going to be possible by Friday or not.

It's kind of jarring just how uncertain things are right now.

Animal Crossing is out on Friday, and I kind of landed on just picking it up in store (I don't have Amazon prime, so my options are "pay 10 bucks for shipping or wait a week", and neither sounds super appealing), but it's like...what are things even going to look like by Friday?

The situation changes rapidly day by day. My town currently has no confirmed cases, but a town twenty minutes from me, that's a massive hub of activity, has three, with a new case appearing basically every day. I strongly suspect that it's teetering on the cusp of a major outbreak, and once it hits there, it's going to hit here.

I legitimately don't know that it's going to be super safe to go out by Friday, depending on how things play out. I could also see some kind of lockdown happening by then if the situation keeps worsening.

It's just a bizarre feeling. Friday is just a few days away, but the world could look entirely different by then. I just want my AC. :(

Maybe it will last a week.

Don't know about next month or next year.

Soon production and transport of many things will stop because either they'll get locked down or the people who make and transport things will be dead and gone.

Nah, we don't get a ton of snow here. We rarely get a big storm or something, but it has never been this bad.

The worst I can remember is an ice storm from several years ago. Power lines froze over and broke, leaving several people without power in very cold temperatures for days if not weeks. That definitely got pretty bad, but I don't think the sheer hysteria hit the levels of what we're seeing now.

Oh, and we also regularly get tornadoes, but nobody really cares about those most of the time. They're such a regular occurrence that most people just kind of watch them for a bit without really worrying unless it's a special situation, like a big one hitting a town directly, such as with Joplin a number of years ago.

The worst of it hasn't even hit yet, and we have:

-Numerous major events being canceled.
-Businesses in danger already.
-The stock market in free fall.
-A huge upswing in racism.
-The virus dominating discussion in the news, in person, and online.
-Hoarding and scalping of supplies.
-Travel bans.
-Trouble distributing testing kits.
-Insurance companies showing their asses and trying to get out of covering patients for treatments relating to the virus.

It's genuinely fascinating just how hard and fast society was shaken by this. It honestly makes me wonder just how hard a more deadly event than this would hit. Not to downplay the effects of the virus by any means, especially among the elderly, but the vast majority of people who get the disease should be fine. If an even more deadly disease were to spread to similar degrees, it's kind of scary to think of just what might happen.

Perhaps I'm making light of the situation a bit too much, but just stepping back and look at how this is impacting society at large, it is honestly really interesting. It's tough to think of many events that have impacted things this much and this quickly.

I don't really use Amazon much, and I almost never preorder anything, but I was thinking of trying to preorder something just due to general business around its release.

My big issue is in shipping. I saw individually that shipping is free for orders over $50, and that selecting two-day shipping on preorders will make it release date shipping, but I wasn't sure if those apply together to make it free release date shipping. I've tried looking it up, but pretty much every answer about shipping relates to Prime or just mentions the free two-day shipping for non-Prime members, but not if they work together. Most of my friends who order things regularly have Prime, too, so I haven't been able to confirm this.

Has anyone tried preordering with Amazon sans Prime, and had actual luck getting the item on release with free shipping?

These movies collapse when placed under any scrutiny while contained to just themselves (Chris kept in a cell since the outbreak makes zero sense, for example). When stacked against each other, it gets worse.

That honestly makes a ton of sense. I felt like the movies had a fairly clear sense of progression and in-universe consistency at first, but it felt like more instances of plot holes, retcons, and characters vanishing started occurring up after the third one. I could see that being the case for sure.

In a way yes, although really the Paul W.S Anderson directed ones are the most important. Basically they're a commentary on video games/video game logic and also the artificial nature of cinema. The plot is as coherent as it needs to be. The films are a lot more intelligent and worthwhile than some people (usually angry nerds who don't grasp the concept of an adaptation) make them out to be. I like them a lot but then I have absolutely no fondness for the Resident Evil games.

Can you expand upon that? I'd honestly love to hear more about that, because that sounds like an interesting angle to it.

Watching them casually made them feel incredibly disconnected to me, but I'd be interested to hear more about that view.

I'll admit that I never saw any of the final movie (I read the plot summary, and it seemed awful, especially considering that the penultimate movie set up like five supporting characters who literally all get offscreen'd between movies), but it felt like anything beyond "Here's more zombies" kind of got chucked out after the third movie.

I'm still skeptical of any stronger plot elements there or significant direction between movies. Characters like the little girl from the second movie and K-Mart or whatever from the third just ended up seeming to vanish with no explanation given, and like I said, the whole desertification plotline seemed to get dropped too. It sort of feels like every movie exists in a vacuum with a few random returning characters and cameos in lieu of actual planned progression or development.

I kind of saw them in bits and pieces scattered over several years on cable (supplemented with Wiki plot summaries), but as far as I can tell, there was absolutely nothing resembling a coherent plotline or direction after the first two or so movies.

Characters routinely disappeared and reappeared with no explanation, major deaths happened offscreen but then turned out to be fake or were just disregarded, characters were killed off en masse offscreen between movies, plotlines and arcs never really went anywhere, and major events seemed to be retconned for no reason, like the world becoming a giant desert over time in one of the movies seemingly not being a thing after that.

Was there an actual overarching plot beyond "Overpowered lady kills zombies" hidden in there? Because it kind of seems like there was no clear direction in the series whatsoever and that all of the movies just did their own things with no real regard for story. It's kind of impressive in a way tbh.

Meta-wise, it was just kind of an awkward concept designed to setup the "gotcha" of being unable to finish the case but it not mattering. It's a lot of why I dislike 4-4, since the entire last court segment has almost no actual cross-examinations or anything.

Hm, that's a shame. I'm not sure I'd want to play fan translations either tbh.

AAI2 is tied with AA3 as my favorite in the series, and the only reason I don't rank I2-5 over 3-5 as my favorite case in the series is that 3-5 had the pure emotional payoff of three games of plot and development. AAI2 is absolutely phenomenal, and the fan translation is good enough that you'd never notice that it isn't an official translation.

I honestly believe that any AA fan owes it to themselves to play AAI2. It's seriously amazing.

I keep toying with the idea of making a serious effort at getting published, but I don't think I have the confidence for it. I finished my last novel several months ago, my friend read it and liked it (I don't have the money to hire a professional editor or anything, so it's the best I can do), and I kind of wrote out a basic query letter along with a synopsis and a longer summary, but I just feel too intimidated to go beyond that. I have very little confidence in my writing, so trying to put myself out there is a really daunting task.

I haven't done too much writing lately, either. I've been a bit too depressed to do much beyond a few very short (4-5~ pages) stories in almost a year now. I want to pick myself up out of that and to work on something longer again, but I haven't had much luck.

Really tempted to jump on AI here, especially since it's already rare as fuck in stores, but I also really feel like I could wait it out and get it for a bit cheaper down the road.

Ace Attorney.

If you count 4/5/6 as a second trilogy, I'd say it applies twice, though those aren't really a trilogy.

A billion percent yes. It's my favorite series ever, and Ace Attorney 3 is tied as my favorite game of all time (with Ace Attorney Investigations 2). The series is excellent, and the Trilogy as a whole is a great deal, so half off is an absolute steal.

Tour is absolute garbage all around. Gachas in general are greedy, but MKT took it several levels beyond that. Horrible, horrible game.

Ehh, I've been catching up on stuff. The last Three Houses DLC drops soon, and SFV Championship Edition is out in a few days too. I might get both.

Past that, March and April have a lot, though I only personally plan to snag Animal Crossing right away from those.
