Because these women bring up the money. You do know there are a ton of guys that donate to them because they are hot. So why ban them or something similar? Even if they appear fully naked they would be suspended for like 3 days.

Twitch sees 0% of donations that go to streamers as they go directly through Paypal, unless they use bits to donate, which are only a small fraction of all donations. It's all subscriptions, and the top male streamers easily outweigh the top females in subscribers, so this post makes no sense!

I also think it's something more serious than an allegation.

Over the last few weeks we've seen women and men in the gaming, esports, and wrestling communities all come out with stories and verified accounts, and for the most part we've been able to connect the dots on why an individual has been fired/suspended.

With Doc there has been no public story and no allegation. It all just suddenly happened and the people who are very credible aren't even willing to say why just yet.

Slasher on Twitter, who is a credible esports/streaming journalist, always leaks any esports and Twitch related news, including a lot of the aforementioned allegation stuff from the last few weeks, and even he isn't willing to divulge on this one. It's something real serious.

So the Leafs now have a 12% chance of getting Lafreniere, assuming they lose their play-in, which you love to see.

On the other hand, though, so do the Pens, Blackhawks, Oilers, and Habs, which would all be varying levels of disastrous.

So life has gone back to normal for the most part on the small island that I've been visiting/temporarily staying on since February. We only ever got to about 200 total cases at our peak, (total population is around 150 000), but the local government did a great job with quarantine and even closing in certain parts of the island.

We are now down to zero cases total for the last few weeks and most restrictions have been lifted. Masks are mandatory indoors in public places and establishments, and bars/restaurants must stay under half capacity.

It's funny because we have more precautions with zero cases now than the US has with record high cases, which also explains why we're back to normal and the US is a shitshow.

For anyone wondering, it's the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores. A group of islands just off the coast of Portugal that belong to Portugal. The mainland has been hit pretty hard, but we were okay.

$79.99 Canadian plus tax for a new game. If I go digital I can get it with no tax, which still isn't good enough!

The Crash/Spyro remakes were $50 + tax at launch, and that was 3 whole games. Going to be tough to do anything but wait for a huge price cut on this one.

On one hand the answer is definitely a 1 and it was a shit show.

On the other, after walking out of the theater, I felt a great sense of relief that I would (hopefully) never have to consume another piece of media surrounding the sequel trilogy and these characters again, so the movie did make me happy in some ways.

Spoilers for the first 3 hours or so, if anyone wants to talk about them:

Joel dying was incredibly predictable overall, but I was shocked at how quick it happened. I read a "joel dies" troll comment on Twitter a month back, and while upset that I had likely gotten spoiled, again figured it would happen at some point.

My expectations were subverted with when it happened though, which is great because I was able to fully experience an emotional response to it.

Was this one of the reasons people were upset?

Stuff like this just comes off a little odd, as if you have read the spoilers and because it's not what you guys want, it can't possibly be good and everyone who likes it must be getting paid to say so. There are plenty of reviews that agree with you, and a whole lot that don't. Why dismiss the favorable ones? I'm just failing to understand the point behind it.

I thought we were past "companies pay for reviews" in the year 2020. I'm sure a whole lot of games journalists who are struggling to survive in an industry with people that hate them for no reason would see that and just give the eye roll.

Serious question, did either of you play the first game? That was 15 hours of dark, grim depressing shit constantly being thrown at you, and it did very well. In the first 10 minutes of it you get an insane gut punch that sets the tone of 'this is not a happy game', and it very rarely lets up from there.

This is a take that I can absolutely agree with.

Maybe attempting to read tone through words is not the way to go here, but I feel like in this specific instance what I'm getting from the author is less, "Hey this thing is cool but not for me at this point in time", and more a condemning of the choices made because of what is happening in 2020. That itself is not a wrong opinion to have if, let's say, I'm creating a new piece of media in 2020. In that sense I absolutely agree. It's tone deaf.

But how many years ago was this story set into place? Doesn't it seem unfair to kind of go "hey read the room", when the room was a different thing when this idea was being established? Should Naughty Dog have scrapped the entirety of their game a few months ago because it now clashes with the real world, more than ever? Maybe the author has all of these answers, who knows.

Again, I might just be reading the tone wrong, but that's what I'm getting out of it.

Playing The Last of Us Part 2, a game that supposes that humans will enact violence upon one another to their dying breaths, is a very strange thing in 2020. Naughty Dog created a world in which people across America react to a massive structural crisis by dividing and disconnecting from others, rather than uniting together to demand something better not just for themselves, but for the most marginalized people in their communities.
I see a widespread level of selflessness and an intense care for the preservation of human life in the real 2020, in fact, and an increasingly loud demand for a society that meets that need. Our systems have failed, in large part, but individual people remain strong and kind. Things have rarely been worse, but there is hope to be found in the actions of average folks fighting to do the right thing. We dont need a video game to rub our noses in hatred and violence to know that other people who are just trying to survive arent the real enemy.

Points in here directly parallel what is happening in the real world to what happens in the game. To be clear, I have no issue with this, and I believe games criticism should absolutely take this into consideration. If games want to send specific message then we should view them through a real world lens.

My initial comment speaks more to the idea that the tone of the paragraph I pasted here makes it seem as if though Naughty Dog is in the wrong for not paralleling our own 2020 world, when they couldn't possibly have foreseen it (although you could say that what is happening now is something that could have definitely been foreseen). You get what I'm trying to say. I personally read it as "in a world where X is happening, ND decided to do Y, when they could have done X", and ultimately I get the sense that that is a negative point on the part of the reviewer.

We can make the argument that the game should have done something closer to what the real world is doing, and that's an interesting conversation to have, but again, it just feels like the reviewer is angry that that didn't happen. Are games not allowed to tell their own compelling stories?

In terms of my "dock points" comment, I was of course not speaking literally, and I figured that was apparent because, as you said, they aren't scored reviews. Points were docked in the sense that I read this as a negative point about the game.

Would be interested to see your response, @iiicon , because I actually do enjoy Polygon and Kotaku, and feel as if though I agree with most of your takes. I think we're on the same side here in terms of worldview, and in this specific case I found it 'outrageous' and 'hilarious' that the perceived negative point is something that is kind of unfair to the writers of the game.

I enjoyed hearing Jeff Bakalar's thoughts on it on the Beastcast today. He also mentioned that it did feel like it was going to be over multiple times and then it just kept going, but he was very satisfied with it and he didn't feel like it was too much.
