Ever try blowing out a candle with a mask on?
Put your glasses on. Blow your nose. Did droplets get on your glasses?

We're not talking about blowing out candles. We're talking about aerosol droplets escaping through the open sides, as well as directly through the weave of cloth and paper masks. Who wears fitted respirator masks? Masks are symbolic, not magical.

Well, since masks, unless they actually seal around nose and mouth, are just symbolic.

And calories, in practical terms, are a measure of how good things taste.

I say go for it!

They just dont want younger folk to have it.

Old people being old people.
If I interpret your acronyms correctly as Universal Basic Income (rather than the more common United Bank of India in the news) and Universal Health Care (rather than the insurance company United Healthcare).

I paid into Social Security for 50 years to qualify for my pitiful stipend. I can't afford to buy Medicare (no, it's not free), I 'd rather have car insurance since I can't afford both.

And I'm still paying into Social Security, I don't make enough to pay income tax, but Self-Employment tax still takes 15% of my little gig income.

I don't worry about what younger people qualify for or don't. But you certainly have some strange and false ideas about Social Security and Medicare. Where are you from?

Never even heard of it until now. I've seen most of the Supermarionation stuff: Fireball XL-5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, and Joe 90. Supercar and the New Captain Scarlet are on my Prime watchlist. I don't think I've seen any of Gerry Anderson's live action stuff.
Yep, have DVD collections of most of those. I do like the live action combination of the imaginative miniature work with live actors. His entire body of work is very creative.

Huh? Looked at a French newspaper, Le Parisien, front page US protests, second page covirus in Californie.

With that kind of coverage, showing what affects a few thousand people out of 330 million, it's not surprising that people have a false impression of the US. I wish we could go back to when news was reported rather than manufactured.

Even though I know the mask is only symbolic and doesn't actually protect from anything, I wear one just to be sociable.

For a mask to even be 3% protective, it needs to seal well around mouth and nose. Common masks don't. Wearing for longer than a few minutes, moistened from breath, downgraded to zero protection.

Bandanas, scarves, cloth masks, totally symbolic. I am scheduled to take my blind neighbor to her doctor's appointment tomorrow. I'll see if the clinic lets me in wearing my (totally symbolic) cloth mask, or asks me to switch to a (mostly symbolic) paper mask.

Isn't science fun! Don't you wish pundits actually read the research?
