Before the coronavirus hit, me and my parents used to eat at buffets all the time. We would go to Asian and casino buffets. Lots of yummy food!

Every once in a while Id go to Golden Corral

seems like places like that may be a thing of the past though. Ive heard theyve reopened but now it works like a cafeteria and they put the stuff on your plate for you

Yes, but ugh. In my 30s now I realize like should be about quality and not quantity. Though I have splurged on some fancy Las Vegas buffets where each individual thing is good to a degree, but even then, $50 for a million unlimited options or $50 for one meal. Which one is likely to be better in terms of quality?

Rarely. I just order food and get the workers to the hard work.

I haven't eaten at one in many years... Actually, I think I went to one a couple years ago with part my Shadowrun group. But not counting that one, I haven't gone to one in many, many years. I do remember going to one a long time ago and saw one of my favorite teachers there. That was like over a decade and a half ago, though...

Fuck yeah. Went to my favorite pizza buffet soon as things started to reopen. Unfortunately it's a bit of a drive, so I don't go often, and it's also the only good one I'm aware of. There's a Cici's nearby, but I'd rather drop dead.

Only ever Chinese buffets and very rarely. There was one buffet I would periodically eat at after work.

Not in a long time, last one was a Chinese buffet near my old workplace. When they closed I stopped.

I remember every time I ate there I had like 2 plates of food, and 5 glasses of water. Shit was salty as hell.

I'm kinda in crab withdrawal actually. IT's too expensive to buy from the store (freaking $30 a pound with the shells on etc), so I would go to crab buffets at Redwind Casino or Emerald City Casino etc for all you can eat crab.

I have not been able to do that for like 6 months now, so no crab for me.

I tried immitation crab for a bit, but it's just not the same and I got tired of it fast.

All the other buffets I can live without (though I miss mongolian BBQ as well), but I can get chineese food delivered that is similar etc. I can't get crab though......and they keep freaking having adds for it on my facebook etc.

But, it's not $30 a pound like at safeway in the adds, no iti's like freaking $60 a pound.....arrrgh, but it looks so good.

If I was rich, you know, like a multi-millionare, I would eat so much crab.

Yep, not frequently though. The last buffet I ate at (and probably will too) was at the German pavilion in EPCOT. Was kinda surprised they still allowed guest to serve themselves since covid was just getting rampant and Disney world was actually shutting down in a few days.

Golden Corral and Ichiban Buffet. Golden Corral was my favorite restaurant but when my stepmom introduced me to Ichiban Buffet, hmm... So, Golden Corral reopened in my area, it seems (though, I do need to lose weight) but Ichiban Buffet is still closed from being dined in. I've been to Ichiban Buffet twice so far and Golden Corral like, maybe 10+ times so far.

Slightly disappointed hearing that it functions differently now but it's understandable. It was closed in the first place because of COVID-19 and they are staying cautious. I shouldn't really complain since I'm happy they are back and they are trying to be as safe as possible.

I'm not averse to this becoming the norm, I like buffets but I'm always worried about health concerns, I don't trust random strangers to take even normal health precautions with a shared eating space.

like I refused to ever eat from that chocolate fountain they had because you just know kids were going around sticking their fingers in it and who knows what else

Used to regularly with my husband. After he passed away I'd go occasionally with friends. Haven't really eaten out much at all, not even takeout, since the Virus.

some casino's have turned into this style post-pandemic. they're not dead you just pick stuff off the menu they bring it to you.
it's still all you can eat.

Chinese or Indian. Not often, because I really can't eat enough at one time to justify the price. Much smarter to order off the menu, pay for a meal, and take what I don't eat home in a takeaway bag.

They're just going to go back to normal once a vaccine is created. Buffets will never go out of business completely.

I would for Chinese food since theyre so common but generally Im not big on buffets, usually it results in stale shitty food.

we dont know for sure that a covid-19 vaccine is gonna even be possible, we cant make one for the common cold for example which is another coronavirus

Buffets grossed me out even before Covid.

Now there isn't a chance in hell I would eat at one.

There aren't any in town anymore I don't think. There was one really nice one but it went out of business when they made a really dumb decision.

Not really. They don't tend to be worth it for me as I don't really eat more than one plate of food when I do go.

I havent eaten at a real buffet in years, but about once a month or so I eat at my schools dining hall, which works like a buffet. They serve five courses a day (plus drinks, dessert, and ask day breakfast), and for $14 you can eat as much as you want.

sometimes theyll be serving a good pasta, maybe chicken or lamb, and burgers. Thats a good day to go, eat a ton, then stuff some more (plus cookies and cereal, usually) into my backpack to eat later.

@Mead Ah, well, it was a Chinese buffet, and quite some time ago at a different part of town, a Mongolian restaurant opened up. The buffet decided to basically copy-paste what that restaurant served in addition to what the buffet already offered, which required new ingredients, new cooks, and installing new hardware to prep the food... and pretty much no customers made use of it because if they wanted that kind of food, they'd just go to the other restaurant. So they blew all this cash trying to squash competition and ended up squashing themselves instead. Whoops.

Sucks, I really liked that place.
