Actually, yes. They would need a website for advertising and customer service anyway. Digital sales is free money.

This problem has only really came about in the last 30 or 40 years. Before then, I am speaking of just the knowledge of my area which is largely rural, most people had guns. People hunted, kids hunted. Hell, boys drove to school with guns in their pickup truck gun rack in the back window. ( When was the last time you saw a truck with a window gun rack?).

what the Hell has happened to society within this time span?

Exactly! When I was a kid, we played cowboys and indians, soldiers (our dads and uncles fought WWII), G-men and robbers, etc. We ran all around the neighborhood with cap guns and air rifles, no problems.

Something is badly wrong with our culture, and guns have nothing to do with it. Does personal responsibility mean anything?

Flush toilets. Actually, indoor plumbing is pretty amazing. My grandparents didn't have it until the 1960s.

When I was a kid, we had a coal-fired furnace with an automatic stoker, so you didn't actually have to shovel coal. Now I have gas heat with a thermostat, amazing.

Cars required oil change and chassis lube every 1000 miles. Now I can go for a year between oil changes, sealed bearings mean never needing a chassis lube. Amazing. Cars had a useful life of 100k miles, I'm at 250k with no problems, amazing.

Party line telephones, had to wait to make a call if a neighbor was already on the line. Now I have a pocket phone, private. Amazing.

Had to drive downtown or to the university and find a metered parking place to visit a library to do research. Now I have the internet on my phone.

I don't know what this is about. But I find it amusing that the X-Box would have been a colossal Jaguar level failure if they didn't make the decision to buy an obscure Macintosh game being developed called "Halo." That was a damn good call on their part, and created a huge fork in the history of gaming forever. It could have gone so horribly bad for that console.

Don't forget that Xbox also picked up sequels and follow-ons to Dreamcast games, that alone would make it a success.

Out of annoyance more than anything else. Dumb hill to die on but it is strangely insulting to me when they act like I have to let them see my receipt. Thats my receipt they can get their own if they like looking at them so bad

Its my stuff, I already paid for it. You cant keep me from leaving your store with my stuff. Im not gonna wait in a line to leave behind other shoppers so you can make some poor old veteran evaluate receipts.

If they really want to make sure everything gets scanned, train the cashiers to do so.

Christmas shopping 5 years ago at Walmart, incredibly crowded, long checkout lines, lackadaisical cashiers, finally checked out, got to the door 20 feet away, jerkwood door man wants my receipt: who knows where the receipt is, might be in one of the sacks, might be in my purse, might be in a parka pocket, wherever I stuffed it when I finally got checked out. When I found my receipt, I took it to the long line at the service desk and got a refund... wasted a lot of time, but why reward stores for behavior like that? Went to Target to finish my shopping.

I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've been to Walmart since. My business isn't going to make or break a store, but I definitely vote with my dollars.

The way I see it, Christmas has become two holidays with the same name. There's the Christian celebration of Christ's birth, and there's the secular holiday that focuses on spending time with loved ones and exchanging gifts.

And, of course, either can include the entire set of preexisting traditional holidays celebrating the Winter Solstice.

And today's poll specifically states "Christmas", while including other Solstice celebrations.

Happy Yule, y'all!
