OK just to satisfy your bs. No threats were made that I know of unless there were isolated ones. I don't think any group made any explicit threats and it was pretty clear they were just there to exercise their rights one of them being there 2nd amendment. In short, it was an obvious show of expressing their rights and not being about violence

So yes, you are going to claim that. Next question: Are you claiming that because you're really that clueless, or because you're being being deliberately obtuse and hoping you can do so convincingly enough that nobody will notice?

OhhhJa posted...
These protests are the opposite. Everyone wants to put themselves on a morality pedestal while acting like toddlers

Why shouldn't peaceful protesters feel like they have the moral high ground? The mere existence of rioters that agree with them doesn't invalidate their position, after all, and surely you wouldn't be so absurd as to generalize the misbehaviour of a violent minority to the entirety of the protests (you totally would, but patronizing sarcasm is fun).

And exponential growth requires a few iterations to be really noticeable, especially above a highly variable background that's already seeing spikes from other sources. It's not like you're going to see all of the protest-related Covid cases showing up within 14 days of the first one.

If they do blame the protesters, it will be painted in a positive light with them claiming the protests were more necessary than preventing the spreading of a pandemic.

That's a legitimate argument that can be made. At least, it can be made a whole lot more easily than the "waa I want a haircut" that prompted the anti-lockdown idiocy.

The more powerful the gun, the more appropriate it is for home defense and protection.

You do know that real guns aren't like video games, right? Short of trying to penetrate body armour (which the vast, vast majority of home invaders aren't going to have), just about any gun is going to be adequate for inserting a bullet into the appropriate squishy bits. When dealing with home defense, you're generally going to want something with a shorter barrel to function better in close quarters and/or a shotgun so you don't have to worry as much about aiming. Stopping power (beyond the basic minimum that virtually all firearms have) doesn't affect much, and in fact a higher-powered gun is actually a terrible idea for home defense because it increases the risk of penetrating walls and causing collateral damage (potentially including the family you're supposedly so keen on defending).

Are you really going to try and claim that people who stormed the capitol building with rifles weren't threatening violence? The good cops will find new jobs in the new police force. The bad ones ideally won't, but they shouldn't, so I'm going to shed exactly zero tears for them.

The only way you can drink ice cream is if you melt it. If that makes ice cream a drink, then everything is a drink because everything can be melted. Melting really belongs in that "blending/pureeing/juicing" caveat, since it's another way to turn a solid food into a drink.

We only had about 40 confirmed cases total in our city of 300k. Hospitals weren't even close to capacity.

In this sort of situation, provided interstate/inter-county travel is appropriately restricted, it's pretty easy to defend the decision to reopen. There are definitely areas where the virus never really got off the ground and has been pretty much eradicated, and there's no reason not to relax local restrictions once that point has been reached. Travel restrictions, however, are still very much a good idea until other areas have reached a similar point.

So I feel like it was success but we maybe overreacted.

That's basically the ideal. There have been many epidemiologists saying things like "if we get this right, everyone will feel that we overreacted" since the response to the virus started. The only way anyone will feel like the reaction wasn't more than was necessary would be if a whole lot of people ended up dying, by which point it would have been far too late to fix the problem. Odds are, it was more of a response than was truly necessary, but it's better to err on the side of caution with something like this. Economies are significantly easier to resurrect than humans, after all.

Looks like the permissions for the WindowsApps folder may have been modified by the update. The Mutable folder doesn't seem to be there at all, which seems weird, and any attempt to modify or access the files in the game's folder is giving me an access error. I've changed myself to be the file's owner (which really shouldn't be a thing, but Windows 10), but there are still permission entries that don't have write access and are giving me an "Access Control Entry Corrupted" error that is preventing me from modifying them. Nationwide infection control measures came into effect before it had a chance to get bad, which helped to keep its curve nice and flat. As those measures are lifted/increasingly ignored, though, you've got a nice, big population that's had no exposure to the virus and therefore no immunity and a virus that's quite happy to take advantage of its newfound freedom.

That, or it's been this bad all along and there's just been an increase in testing as tests become more available to states that aren't obviously in bad shape. I'd be more willing to guess the former, though.

I think usually it's an effort to add a certain degree of unpredictability to the game. That usually gets thwarted by communities tearing games apart to attain complete control over them, but for the average player who doesn't look stuff up, hidden mechanics mean a given playthrough may end up being a different experience without them needing to consciously seek such a thing out.

Now, it does often happen that such mechanics end up taking too much control away from players who don't research and effectively gating chunks of content behind the wiki. That's not great design.

"Menstruating people" would be slightly shorter, but does create some ambiguity because it sounds more like it's referring to people who are currently menstruating, not simply those that do so periodically. "Menstruaters" would be both shorter and less ambiguous, but it's not actually a word (though its morphology makes obvious what it's supposed to mean). But yeah, within the constraints of extant, unambiguous language, I don't think it's possible to say it any less cumbersomely.

I HIGHLY doubt that's what actually killed her.

I don't. Fatalities and serious injuries from non-lethal crowd control methods are far from unheard of, especially when you're dealing with people with preexisting respiratory problems. "Non-lethal" just means they're less likely to kill people than live ammunition would be, not that they're perfectly safe and only cause pain.

Furthermore, your post suggests that you believe there should be a causal link between protesting and being killed. Regardless of whether or not you think this particular person was killed by tear gas, that's the position you are being challenged to defend. I encourage you to stop deflecting and actually mount that defense.

reason posted...
Besides, if you're "peacefully" protesting, they ain't comin in shooting gas at you.

That would be nice, yes. Unfortunately, it's not true. There have been countless videos coming out of these protests of police firing on or otherwise assaulting (including tear gas and pepper spray) people who are not rioting nor looting nor doing anything other than peacefully protesting. Unless you want to suggest that "standing on your own front porch recording a video" is an offense that warrants being shot at (since assaulting people for collecting video evidence or otherwise conducting journalism seems to be a common thread among the police response here).

Then, of course, even if that weren't an objective truth, there's the point to consider that tear gas is not a precision weapon. Even if it were (and it's not) only being fired at rioters and looters, people who are peacefully protesting nearby are going to be affected by it. Your belief that being hit by tear gas is proof that she was doing something wrong is not only baseless, but flagrantly at odds with obvious objective reality.

In short, you have done nothing to demonstrate that your position is not "peacefully protesting means you deserve death." Your options now are as follows:

  • Retract your statement, apologize for making baseless assumptions, and restate your position to clarify that you only refuse to feel sympathetic for people who are killed by police in the process of committing violent crimes while admitting that you have no way of knowing whether or not that applies to this girl

Every time I think Trump can't possibly disgrace himself any more than he already has, he goes and does something disgusting like this. Shameful. Absolutely shameful.

And the worst part is that his base will not only defend such comments, but latch onto them as truth.

What? Billionaires are supporting the campaign of a republican president who is also a billionaire and has been very kind to his billionaire buddies for the last four years? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

Well, not that shocked.

People are going to say things you don't like.

They certainly are. They just shouldn't be surprised when saying things people don't like results in those people not liking them. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences.

the trans community had a trump-style freakout because her opinions didn't exactly match theirs

There's being upset because one's opinion is that the Star Wars sequel trilogy is better than the original trilogy, and then there's being upset because one's opinion is that your existence and life experience are illegitimate and don't deserve recognition or acceptance. "Opinion" is a very broad term. Some opinions are rather meaningless in the grand scheme of things, and being upset over differences is indeed silly. Other opinions form the basis for full-on systematic oppression, and being upset over differences in those opinions is mandatory to secure passable quality of life for those affected.

Dismissing anything as "just an opinion" without putting any thought into the significance of that opinion is lazy at best and outright malicious at worst. But then thinly-veiled anti-trans posts are your thing, so nobody's really surprised.

JK was mocking the use of specific and intentional language. Her suggestion of saying "women" instead of "people who menstruate" was, at best, medically or scientifically exclusionary and inaccurate. At worst, she was intentionally casting aside transpersons from being part of the discussion.

And given her history of insisting that transgenderism isn't legitimate, there's a pretty good chance it's the latter. Bonus points where it seems like this was purely a cry for attention because nobody had been talking about her in the wake of the more important things going on in the world.

There's no way she died from that.

There are ample reports out there of fatalities resulting from tear gas use, and it's really not hard to imagine severe respiratory irritants triggering fatal respiratory distress in people with compromised breathing (e.g. asthma). Duckbear's account of it makes it sound like her death was unrelated, but Duckbear's wording shouldn't be treated as absolute truth in any case.

You really think peacefully protesting deserves to be met with death? Really?

Yeah, I haven't spent much time in there, but I think I've seen one other person in a Blacknyack game once and that's been my entire experience of playing casino with other people (and that was on like day 2 when people were still trying everything out). Even then, I left that table because I was just looking to finishing the CO of getting 5 wins and the extra person made that process feel slower (don't know if it actually was or not).

Casino is indeed not exactly great. I had okay returns from the high-stakes slots game, but I think that was more luck than anything, and everything else seems to have terrible returns. I managed to stay profitable well enough, but by such a tiny margin that it would take forever to get anywhere.

That said, if I actually used some strategy on the Rappy Slots, I might get somewhere. I was purely looking to get a PSE burst for the CO and didn't try to maximize it at all, but I still turned a profit betting 1 coin on every pull. Bumping that up to 5 during the burst would make a considerable difference, I would imagine.

requeue when this happens; what probably happened was that the MPA you block switched to join ended up full and you got thrown in another by yourself

That's usually what I do, but I felt like doing something stupid. It was a reasonably entertaining time, futile though it was. It definitely would have been really good for exp/drops with a full party, so I'll be sure to try for one next time it pops up.

you can trade VH capsules up to SH ones at a 10-to-1 ratio, so 100 VH capsules is one entry of SH

Ah, excellent. Good to know. I only have like 20 of each VH capsule because I haven't been doing VHAQs (I'm honestly not sure how I made it to 59 without putting more time into them, but whatever), but that should be easy enough to remedy.
