Pretty much. It kind of baffles me, really. "They're protesting police brutality, so let's unambiguously prove them right by assaulting peaceful protesters." The police don't exactly seem to be trying to prove the complaints wrong, and it's not doing them any favours as far as public opinion goes.

So according to you, soldiers shooting civilians isn't a war crime because said civilians were unarmed. Okay, that makes total sense.

If there's no actual armed conflict going on during which they're committing said murders? Potentially. Shooting civilians in the process of fighting a war is a war crime, but shooting civilians during an otherwise peaceful time could be considered plain old murder instead.

Obviously, there are some nuances to consider in defining the term, and I don't know if this would actually qualify as a formal armed conflict. Sometimes, even if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's actually a goose, and you'll need to cook it a bit differently to get comparable results.

You'd be automatically wrong. Milk is a food. Just because you can use it as something else doesn't make it a medical supply.

If shirts are being torn up to use as bandages, shirts are a medical supply. If water is being used to wash wounds, water is a medical supply. If tampons are being used to staunch the bleeding from gunshot wounds, tampons are a medical supply.

Something having a more mundane use than first aid doesn't preclude it from being a medical supply. Medical supplies are anything that is being used for medical purposes in the context in question. There's no reason to seek out a definition other than that.

Revelation34 posted...
Yeah destroying milk is a war crime after all.

Attacking medics and destroying their supplies is, yes.

A good story can be a motivating factor for me playing a game and contribute significantly to my enjoyment, but a bad story generally isn't going to turn me off of it unless it's exceptionally bad. A story being absent or negligible generally isn't going to hurt unless the fundamental gameplay loop isn't engaging enough to motivate me on its own, but a good story can help keep me motivated despite what would otherwise be an inadequately engaging gameplay loop.

Thinking you need to "do something about Autism" is what's concerning.

I mean, there is plenty to be done. Autistic kids are much less likely to be adopted than non-autistic ones, due in part to the stigma associated with it and due in part to the extra work involved in even higher-functioning cases. In the less immediate sense, there's ample work to be done dispelling stigmas and ample work to be done ensuring resources are available to help autistic kids (and adults, for that matter) reach their potential.

Yes, treating autism as though it's unilaterally a problem that needs fixing is wrong, and that's something a lot of people do, but autism presents challenges and differences that can't be ignored without negatively impacting the quality of life for all involved. Addressing those challenges and differences qualifies as "doing something."

You can have crackers for people that want a snack and also have milk and water that will be used to treat injuries, you know. Tents can serve multiple purposes.

I believe it was grade 3 that French started for me, so perhaps a slight exaggeration, but there are definitely schools that start it earlier even without getting into formal French immersion programs. Close enough for my purposes.

You should never learn not to assume things, though. Assumptions are a fundamental, inescapable part of our existence. You simply can't function if you have to empirically verify everything from scratch every time you do anything. I am, for example, currently assuming that you have not suffered a stroke that has rendered you completely illiterate since your last post and that you will therefore be able to read this. Learning which assumptions are safe to make in which contexts is what's actually important, and that's a lifelong process, not something you can assume you're done with after you finish grade 2.

Because protesting police brutality is a more justifiable reason to neglect distancing measures than protesting not being able to go golfing or get a haircut. Gathering in large crowds and not wearing a mask is still a bad idea, and I'm always glad when I see pictures of protests that are more responsibly distanced and where people have masks on, but these gatherings are in an effort to solve an actual problem, not just because people are being whiny entitled babies.

Milk is a very important medical supply.

You known how people always say to drink milk if you've eaten something too spicy and want to reduce the burning? That's because milk proteins bind to capsaicin and help to carry it away instead of leaving the molecules free to irritate your tissues. As the name suggests, pepper spray consists primarily of concentrated capsaicin.

When you're dealing with large numbers of pepper spray injuries, milk is indeed an important medical supply, since that's generally going to be the most effective form of first aid available short of setting up an actual field hospital (which isn't the most plausible idea right now). Water is also important for washing wounds and treating people that have been exposed to tear gas, to say nothing of treating dehydration (a very real risk in summer temperatures). Arguing that these were medical supplies is very, very easy.

I mostly enjoyed the game, but got burned out trying to be thorough about completing quests because they were all just the same. I made it up to what I believe was the final faction quest line and just drifted quietly away from the game because it couldn't hold my attention anymore. I think it suffered from trying too hard to be a Skyrim killer (which I would bet was mostly due to pressure from EA because that's just how the AAA industry works) and ended up bloated as a result, when it would have been a more enjoyable game with a smaller scope and less padding.

If I were to get the gold mission pass ticket now, would that retroactively get me the gold rewards for tiers I've already completed? I'm guessing not, given that I think it explicitly says no when you accept a tier reward (I dismissed the Gold thing as being a paid one before I understood the difference between AC and SG and never updated my perception) and there seems to be an option to purchase individual tiers for 25 SG each, but I figure it doesn't hurt to check. I do have the SG to buy the ticket, which would get me a couple Rising Weapons Badges (I'm getting close to tier 18, which gives some free ones plus 5 if I go Gold, plus I could buy Tier 2 and get the 5 from the Gold ticket, which would be almost enough for a Nox weapon), but if it's not retroactive, it's a lot closer.

You're equating putting out fires to cops killing people.

No. I'm equating a house being on fire to cops killing people. Both problems in a broad hypothetical sense, but they are problematic in a more immediate practical sense for a narrow subset that therefore warrants closer scrutiny.

Veedrock- posted...
If you believe in all seriousness that "ALM" wants cops to remain unaccountable, you need a serious reality check.

Given that it's usually spouted in an effort to dismiss BLM-related complaints? It absolutely does, whether that's a conscious implication or not. The complaint is that cops are killing too many non-violent people, who happen to be predominantly black. Fixating on an inaccuracy in the movement's name instead of saying "yes this is a problem let's hold police accountable" ignores that complaint.

Veedrock- posted...
Is this cop killing s*** largely a race problem? Absolutely. Does the response have to hinge exclusively on race? Absolutely f***ing not.

It doesn't, but movements like this often end up with names that don't necessarily accurately reflect the scope that they grow into. Nobody that has paid any attention to the issue actually thinks that anyone is saying "once police brutality toward black people stops we're good regardless of what they do to everyone else," which is the only possible concern that could be addressed with the correction of "all lives matter." To that end, taking umbrage to people who feel the need to make that correction (particularly where, more often than not, they're doing so with the intent of saying "you don't have a real point stop whining") is not unreasonable.

Quite simply, if you're concerned about police brutality toward non-blacks (which is a very legitimate issue in its own right), BLM is still a suitable vehicle through which to act on those concerns, since anything done to curb police brutality toward blacks will ultimately curb police brutality overall. Are non-blacks left out of the name? Yep. That's kind of unfortunate. But there's no reason to feel like that limits it in any way.

If I say "barnacles are delicious" in an effort to communicate the point that I like playing video games, I shouldn't be at all surprised if people don't understand that point and instead call me weird for eating barnacles. That's an extreme example, obviously, since that's me making up a definition for those words that has absolutely nothing to do with anything outside of my own head, but the point remains that connotations exist beyond the strict literal interpretations of words - often provided by contextual clues - and must be taken into account in using such words.

I feel like going for a +30 nox is the easiest way to upgrade. You only need 20 rising weapon badges and you get a couple per UQ as well as an easy 5 if you get the gold mission pass (which can be gotten pretty easily from the SG you get from the story.) If you snag any rising weapon 2 badges, you an turn each one into 2 rising weapon 1 badges so it's even faster. Nox weapons are decent 12* weapons and you can equip them at level 50. I'm thinking you can probably use that until you get a 13*.

On the other hand, I wonder how long it'll take for them to roll out stronger gear. Probably not worth farming too hard right now, just so long as you have gear that can work at the next tier of content.

Yeah, Nox is my next target. I got the Photon Booster one and that's made a huge difference (the Yas 9k would be better, but at this point, my only avenue for that will be to farm the forest Extreme Quest, which is pretty slow), but now that I've unlocked SH I can get in on SH Falz and start gathering the badges. Which UQ's is it that drop them?

I also really need to find some unit upgrades, since I'm feeling awfully squishy. I'm still using 3* stuff I've had since some of my first quests, plus the 7* one they hand out for free (which does seem to be genuinely decent and better than just about anything I've had drop, but I should still probably find some upgrades).

I decided to use my Raghbelt Trigger to try and get myself a Yas 9k (10* TMG), since my 7* TMG is showing its age but the only readily available upgrade is the 10* one from Photon Boosters that I can't equip yet. The two Raghbelts drop three copies of the same 9* Twin Saber and an 8* Knuckles for good measure, but nothing I can actually use. Random loot is random, I guess.

I'm am kind of surprised by the longevity of my H&S 25, though. It's only 7*, but they were dropping like candy through most of Hard and that made it really easy to get them to +30, which has made them substantially more powerful than basically everything in the 8-9* range I've found (even maxing them out doesn't seem to be enough to make them a significant upgrade).

I quite agree, but until prison sentences are structured that way and society gets over its collective vengeance boner, 10 years is still a very short sentence for first-degree murder. That prison as a whole ought to be reformed doesn't mean a sentence that's too short to adequately protect society or be a real deterrent is okay while prison is still being used as a deterrent/isolation tool.

That said, looking it up to remind myself of what exactly it is that you interact with to be taken there, the wiki's saying that you can go back by talking to the demon perched near where you land, so maybe it's not actually a PonR and I just need to pay more attention.

In terms of using videos as evidence, it's going to result in some inflation in investigation costs due to the need to have experts validate the footage, but I can't imagine we're ever going to hit a point where fake videos are truly indiscernible from genuine ones. The problem is going to arise in spreading disinformation. Video footage has long been treated as the gold standard for veracity, since most methods of faking it are easy enough to spot, but deepfakes change that and mean people are going to have to be a lot more skeptical of video evidence, skepticism that will take quite a while to develop.

I think I may have slightly neglected my defensive boosts, so I've deviated away from focusing on Fury Stance to get myself Automate Half. I had a rather rough time on my first attempt at a VHAQ, with that mysterious sword dude from one of the early story quests showing up and all but one-shotting me while I couldn't even see him because there was too much else going on and the tiny PC-sized enemy blended right in, then ended up failing the quest because I got careless and the Fang Banshee landed a couple hits. Gunner's rather squishy for a melee-range class. On the bright side, I've got Grim Barrage now, so I can literally fly around 24/7, which just feels awesome. I should probably have focused more on the passive damage bonuses than on all of my Chain Trigger skills, though, since stuff still isn't lasting long enough to really take advantage of it (that or the part I target breaks half a second after I apply it), but I guess there's not much I can do about that now.

Am I correct in thinking that I should hold off on spending Gunner points on stuff like Double Jump and Air Reversal and use my Hunter points to get them instead? Hunter's at like 29 now, so I'm not far off from being able to get them all there, but double jump would be awfully nice to have for such an aerial-centric class.

"now"?, they've been on the list for quite a while, no?

I thought so. I seem to remember something like this coming up a couple years ago.

Xenoblade 1 pretty consistently takes me ~120 hours to play through, being moderately thorough with side quests and the like and knowing mostly where to go (I relied a bit on guides my first time through). The one time I did try to push for closer to 100%, I broke 150 pretty easily, and I think I even approached 200. Right before Xenoblade X came out, I did a NG+ playthrough where almost all of the combat was negligible (you get to keep levels and gear, so I was one-shotting the first ~75% of the game) so I was really just blowing through the story as fast as possible, and that took about 20 hours. I've seen a compilation of just the cutscenes on Youtube that's over 10 hours long.

Xenoblade 2 is a bit shorter. I think my final play time was around 90-100 when I beat it, then made it up to around 120 by the time I finished unlocking and leveling all of the blades and beating the superbosses. This was before a sizable amount of additional replayability was added, though, including a NG+ option, several new blades (some of which are DLC, others are free), and the challenge arena (DLC), so you could probably easily push 150+ now if you wanted (especially with the DLC). I haven't played Torna yet, but my understanding is that it's another 20-30 hours on its own.

So yeah, you've got a pretty sizable amount of game to get through.

Am I a bad gamer for preferring Generations to World?

Don't get me wrong, World is fine. But I prefer Generations.

World was disliked in a lot of ways by longer-standing fans of the series because it changed up quite a bit. Some of those changes were welcome QoL improvements that were long overdue (as a series, MH has some really weird design choices in it that often don't really align with modern game design standards), but many of them just served to dumb the game down and/or strip the soul out of it, and for a series whose challenging gameplay is one of its primary draws, that didn't sit well with a lot of people.

yeah, fuck human advancement. it should come to a grinding halt every time we have any sort of crisis.

Advancing for advancement's sake shouldn't take priority over advancing for the purpose of solving existing problems, though. You get some tangential benefits from NASA's work, sure, so dismisisng it entirely is dumb, but prioritizing "maybe this will be useful somewhere down the road" over "this will definitely be useful right now" is similarly so.

The Salon is on the second floor of the shop area. The area's divided into two halves, you're looking for the one with the pink store, not the red one.

if you want a quick overview of the PAs each class commonly uses, use this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wZql23y0YAENBq21LtMspcYoGXKiWETajriT-smhwkM/edit#gid=700471991

(anything with type-0 in the name is unavailable right now)

my knowledge on gunner is spotty since last time i played was before the nerf of their main damage dealer and buff to everything else

I'm mostly going off of this post and the reddit thread that the author also made:

https://forum.pso2.com/topic/1700/gunner-tmg-photon-art-usage-guide
https://www.reddit.com/r/PSO2/comments/fy8nci/gunnertmg_photon_art_summary_and_usage/

Going by that, it sounds like most arts have their uses, and that's been my experience so far (I'm still missing a few, namely the crucially important Grim Barrage), but I'm just puzzled as to how to interpret the advice given on how to lay them out. Now, I say this, but even though I'm 100% sure one of the posts in the reddit thread said something to the extent of "mapping Weapon Action to RT will give you six PA's on your palette," I can't seem to find said post and only see one saying 5. So maybe I'm just going insane.

That's what I was thinking, although that may have been based on the JP version where the level 85 skill that turns S Roll into an attack is available (not sure if that allows it to generate PP/ramp up Chain Trigger). You can bind PA's to the subpalette, which is what I'm probably going to do. Well, that or make up different main palettes for different situations, since I won't always need all of them and the subpalette isn't the most accessible. I'll have to play around with it and see what happens.

I'm fine with grinds that are actually challenging or entertaining, but when it's just a matter of hoping for the rough equivalent of a divine blowjob from the random number gods while doing the same thing over and over again thousands of times, that's really not that fun. Some RNG and grind are fine, but when it's taken to extremes like so many older games did it makes the game feel more like a job than a pastime.

I've been looking at the various Gunner PA's to see what I should be trying to get, and it looks like they're all situationally useful and I should have all of them bound. That's all well and good, but I saw the suggestion of rebinding Weapon Action to RT because the basic dodge isn't particularly useful with Stylish Roll (which makes sense and I've done this) to allow me to put 6 PA's on my palette. If I do that, though, doesn't that leave me unable to do regular attacks for PP regen?

you can also install skills onto them, like 10-15s of invulnerability whenever you get full PB, or healing via certain triggers. eventually you can increase the number of skill slots to like 10, too

and you can change their photon blast; by far the best two are ketos proi (pp regen field for you and nearby allies; also recharges REALLY fast) and julius nifta (persistent suction effect for grouping up enemy mobs)

That's separate from the feeding process, though? Like I don't need to aim for certain evolutions to unlock such abilities?

just found out I can buy them at the shop in the lobby to try them

Even better than that, if you talk to some of the NPC's in the lobby near the class counter, they'll give you free weapons to use in quests where you have to kill 20 enemies with that weapon, as a means of giving you the chance to try them out. I believe those NPC's will eventually give out skill points for their corresponding classes as rewards for later quests, so that would be worth doing.

I did find the other counter that gave me more weapon slots and my mag at least. The mag is growing very slowly for now. I'm aiming for melee/defense (want mostly melee though) on my mag. I was just feeding it monomates (Cause that was the way to do it in pso 1 lol) but i'm getting the feeling there are better ways to feed em now.

Far as I've been able to tell, there's basically no reason to do anything with a Mag other than get it up to 200 in your ideal offensive stat (pretty obvious for most classes, but it's actually Dex for I believe Braver, Bouncer, and Phantom (don't quote me on the exact classes)). In the case of melee, that means feeding it mostly melee weapons (MATK and DEX up, MDEF down), but interspersing those with either monomates (MATK and MDEF up, DEX down) or 4* furnishings (MATK up, DEX down) as needed to keep DEX from leveling up (since that would limit how much MATK you can get). It's not like PSO1 where it was often worthwhile to aim for specific stat balances to get particular evolutions that would offer useful unique abilities; this time around Mags are pretty much just stat sticks with some extra abilities as a nice bonus on top of that.

Also, there's no way to get more mags without either buying a microtransaction or the one you get for free with a new character, so if you've screwed it up too badly, it may be worth looking into how to fix that now, before it gets worse (my impression is that it's easy to adjust a few levels here and there, but not to make major changes).
