yes that is the feature working as intended

If you're openly admitting to a flagrant sampling bias, trying to claim you haven't seen many examples of something your sampling actively selects against isn't particularly meaningful. That's roughly akin to saying "I'm only looking in the trees, but I haven't seen very many fish."

Isn't deadly enough? Wow, how many people do you have to kill to be considered a murderer then? 1 million?

It's less the number of people it's killed and more the chances of killing somebody. Odds are, you aren't going to kill anyone you give Covid to. Consider the difference between stabbing somebody in the chest and punching them in the head: The latter can kill somebody, but generally won't unless you get them just right or they're particularly vulnerable to it. The former probably will, unless you do it wrong or they're lucky. As such, the latter is assault and the former is attempted murder.

But this goes beyond hiding your posts from him. Hiding quotes would be fine. Hiding the entire post that includes the quote, decidedly less so, unless people are given a warning when they quote a user that has people blocked so they know to isolate that response (which kinda defeats the purpose of blocking).

link i've explained to you before why blocking is necessary and the ignore feature never did anything to stop harassment, something i think i definitely do know more than a lot of people about

you can argue about the quote thing and maybe you're not wrong but saying the block feature is not necessary is just plain wrong

For a quick summary, ignoring somebody just means you can't see them harassing you. It doesn't actually stop them from doing so, which in turn means you're inevitably going to see that harassment as others interact with the ignored person. Blocking them prevents that by dramatically reducing the chance that they even know you're there.

Unfortunately, blocking does have the potential to be abused by people who want to "punish" other users. This change improves the intended use (since seeing quotes from the person effectively negates the block), but also vastly increases its potential for abuse.

And that's what block is for, except now it stops him from seeing your posts AND the posts of anyone that quotes you. That takes block from "I just want him to leave me alone" (a legitimate way to deal with harassment problems) to "I want to actively impede his GameFAQs experience" (which is just petty and dumb).

There's really not much to think about. This is a stupid idea that's going to make browsing these boards even more of a hassle than it already is, while yielding little to no actual benefit. Again, blocking the quotes? Sure. GameFAQs' prehistoric forum architecture probably doesn't allow for that, but that's a reasonable expansion of the block system to allow it to more completely fulfill its original purpose. Blocking the post that contains the quote, though? If anything, that gives particularly active posters that are feeling extra petty the ability to chase people they don't like off the board entirely, since they can make most of any topic literally unreadable for that person just by blocking them and being quoted often. That's a far worse form of harassment than anything block might prevent.

Which game would they play? Dota2 is the most popular, but completely incomprehensible for the casual viewer. CSGO is easier to understand, but very politically incorrect. Rocket League is easy to grasp, but far from the most popular.

This is my biggest issue with the idea. "eSports" is a very, very broad concept, encompassing hundreds of possible games, many of which are so complex as to mean virtually nothing to viewers that don't already play them. Many of those games also already have global competitions, so adding them to the Olympics would accomplish very little except perhaps piquing the interest of the very tiny handful of people that might care about them, but don't already.

That is how it is supposed to work Im pretty sure. If I have someone blocked I would rather they not see my posts, even if someone else is quoting me.

It should not, however, prevent people from seeing the post that quotes you, which it sounds like they've done. It's very, very common for posts that quote a given user to contain plenty of information beyond that quote, including quoting and responding to other users. Eliminate the quote, sure, but hiding the whole post just needlessly interferes with normal board use.

Honestly a game doesn't need to be short to be a roguelite, and a good one could be made that would take years to finish.

It kinda does. The point of roguelites in particular (that is, roguelikes with significant meta-progression) is that you have a steady sense of progression with each attempt. If done right, that drive to progress sucks the player right back in after every run, since there's always the knowledge that something new and interesting can be unlocked by playing another round. If an attempt takes several hours, though, it's a lot harder to create that sense. The reward is very distantly separated from the decision to start a run, so it's a lot harder to harness that motivation.

Fundamentally, rogueli(k/t)es are also built around the assumption that the player will fail initially. That's fine with shorter runs, especially when there's some manner of meta-progression to make that failure feel worthwhile, but investing 20 hours into something that's all but guaranteed to end in failure is pretty disheartening. That's even more true when that 20-hour failure isn't because you've failed as a player, it's because you haven't had enough other 20-hour failures to level up your stats enough for success to be reasonably achievable (and if you're investing 20 hours into each upgrade, those boosts are going to have to be large enough for that to be the case in order to feel worthwhile).

Perhaps I'm just biased, since I've never really seen much appeal in playing hardcore in ARPG's (it always just seems to promote slower, more defensive play, which generally isn't all that interesting, and after investing that much time into designing a character, I like to keep them around), but the idea of trying to stick a meta-progression system on top of a game that takes tens of hours per clear just seems like padding for padding's sake, not an actual interesting way to add replayability.

Anything more than a shared stash would pretty dramatically alter the way the game works. If nothing else, it's really too long to be a proper rogueli(k/t)e, so you'd need to see quite a bit of the game cut out.

Zeus posted...
The fact that some jobs pay far more than the minimum wage wrecks that idea.

Not remotely. Jobs that pay more than minimum wage do so because they feel the need to compete for workers that are able to do them. Jobs that pay minimum wage, however, would generally be paying less if they could legally get away with it, thanks entirely to the fact that they aren't competing for workers and there are workers out there willing to settle for lower wages (since making a little money is better than making no money at all).

If anything, the fact that any job pays minimum wage conclusively validates that idea.

Zeus posted...
In the absence of socialism and other government systems which f*** up the economy, if a job doesn't pay enough to support workers, those jobs go unfilled and the employers are forced to raise wages or find an alternative.

Government programs are generally a very good idea, though (since they mean people don't immediately starve when they're out of work). The fact that employers paying minimum wage rely on welfare to subsidize their workforce is indeed a problem, but it's one that can be solved by either mandating a livable minimum wage (cutting down on welfare requirements and ultimately creating opportunities for tax breaks that can offset the increased wages (not that corporations paying $0 in taxes care about further tax breaks >.>)), or by implementing a livable UBI so employers don't have to pay any wages at all to ensure their workforce's survival (increasing welfare requirements and creating a need for tax increases, which would be offset by dramatically reducing wages for corporations relying largely on minimum-wage work).

The current system of straddling between those two ideas is indeed rather awkward and doesn't work very well. One of them, however, needs to exist. The power imbalance between employers and employees demands that, as does the need for supports for those that have fallen on hard times in some capacity or another. You can't simply get rid of both welfare and minimum wage laws and hope for the best.

Wait, so maybe there is a way to actually enjoy D3? I always played thorugh the INCREDIBLY BORING campaign with a new character. I finished it with the paladin and like 1 other char, never finished it with the necromancer though and a bunch of others (paladin and Shaman I think it was).

I may reload it and see if I can just avoid the campaign with the others.

Yeah, you can level entirely in Adventure mode, primarily via rifts. With a level 25 Gem of Ease (+2500% exp, allows the level 70 weapon it's in to be used at any level), you can get a new character to 70 in like 4 rifts, which takes like half an hour at most. You won't have that on your first character in a given season, but it's still pretty quick to level, and doesn't involve slogging through the campaign.

You have to play the campaign once to unlock adventure mode, but I believe it remains unlocked after that, even in new seasons. It's still a decent idea to rush to Leoric for his crown when starting a new season (to double the exp gain from Rubies), but that's about it.

Paired with some manner of UBI? Absolutely. Ideally, businesses should be able to pay employees purely on the basis of value generated, without having to consider their costs of living as part of the cost of employing a person to do a job.

Without UBI? Lolno. If you want to employ a person to do a job, you need to be able to pay for that person's survival. If you can't, then you shouldn't be trying to employ them. Without defining a minimum wage, the entire employee market is dragged down to the lowest standard of living any of them is willing to accept, which is just bad for everyone except the employer.

Most people didnt care, or even know, about HIPAA months ago. And are now using it to avoid getting vaccinated or showing proof of it

Mostly, it means somebody can't call up your doctor and ask for your medical information, unless they're one of the few entities that are exempt or you give them permission to do so. It gives you the right to refuse to share vaccination status, if you wish, but it doesn't protect you from being turned away from places that require vaccination.

Hardcore mode is never any harder than normal. The stakes are just higher.

That said, I can't imagine enjoying hardcore in D3. The game pretty quickly turns into rocket tag as you move up into the higher difficulties. Even with a complete suite of defensive abilities and whatnot, it's only a matter of time before you get instagibbed by something off-screen. That's annoying enough on normal, but to have a whole hardcore character ended that way just doesn't seem fun.

Given that more electricity and water goes into producing a given article of clothing in the first place than is needed to wash it (especially considering that you can fit significantly more than one piece of clothing in a load), the idea of it costing more to wash it than buy a new one isn't very plausible.

Bananas are more consistent, particularly where they continue to ripen after being picked and you can therefore control how good they are when you eat them, rather than being beholden to what's available.
