not major vectors sure, but with the limited time and numbers of the studies mean we can't truly be sure of the total consequences. since the children are interacting heavily with adults who more easily spread COVID-19 it does mean that spread can happen. looks like some research says that the transmission from child to adult is half of adult to adult.

I think this might be one of those "stopped clock" moments for the Trump administration. I think the scientific evidence suggests that opening the schools carefully and intelligently would not cause many new cases. I think this is a good idea, if done right.

Unfortunately the current administration gives us zero confidence that it will be done right. This will probably end up being like the China travel ban. Every time they come up with an idea that is actually good, they completely fuck it up in the execution. I think America may wind up becoming the only country to have a major spike in infections from reopening schools.

This is a myth that the right likes to push: that there were all these secret Trump supporters who lied on surveys but when the time came to vote they all came out and cast theirs for Trump. But the numbers don't add up. Trump lost the popular vote, and the number he got is way lower than what Obama got in either election. Way lower than what he got in 2008.

What really happened is that people didn't vote for Clinton. It wasn't high turnout for Trump, it was low turnout for Clinton.

And anyway, the idea that the side that lost the popular vote is a "silent majority" is pretty silly.

I am surprised that they did this. I mean obviously Disney does everything out of a cynical drive for profit, but I would think the reduced income they could get from opening now wouldn't be worth the risk of bad publicity if their park is the site of a really bad mass infection.

Hierarchy of needs.



We are wired to worry about those needs from the bottom up. When one level is taken care of, we go one higher. Not being able to to satisfy the high level needs is more psychologically damaging because with lower level needs, the way to meet them is clear so we have a clear purpose. But the high level needs are much more murky. In fact we may not even realize they exist. So we have no idea how to meet our needs, or what to do. It's hard to even imagine ourselves meeting those needs sometimes. If you're hungry, you know that if you get food you will feel better. But if you're feeling down because you never felt like you deserve the love you've gotten, and the job you have devoted decades of your life to has come to feel empty and unsatisfying, it's much harder to visualize a path to getting better. It may seem impossible.

It depends on the location and the manager. Some places are so understaffed that they have to take anyone with a pulse. Other places can afford to be more choosey.

This is not true. While we certainly shouldn't trust the numbers that the CCP is putting out, there are limits to what they can do. Back when the virus first started getting bad, they tried to keep things under wraps but the news kept getting out. Hospitals were being overwhelmed, doctors were posting on social media how the disease was different than anything they'd seen before. The government tried to crack down and censor them but the news was getting out there. Taiwan was already moving to keep the disease from spreading when 2020 started.

There's just no way China could be posting numbers this low if it were still raging at anything like the rate in America. So the truth seems to be that their draconian measures worked.

Mostly formal and professional, most often used when you're meeting someone for the first time. It's a common ritual in business especially. You stand up, do the bow/handshake, exchange business cards, and sit down to talk.

No, handshakes are a thing in Japan, largely due to western influence of course. But it has evolved its own place alongside bowing as a way of politely/respectfully showing friendliness. They even have a very Japanese way of doing it where you bow your head and shake hands at the same time.

Of course bowing was a polite and classy thing for Obama to do. I'm sure other Republican presidents before him all did the same. That's just what you are supposed to do when you're president.

It depends on how hardcore she is, and whether or not that's the only thing she ever wants. I'm fine with domination, humiliation, and maybe even mild pain, but if she wants to give electric shocks to my balls then I'm out.

Also if this is getting mixed in with more vanilla, standard sex then it sounds great. But if I can never ever have regular sex with her for the rest of my life then that might be a dealbreaker.

Well the new system is smoother and more intuitive overall. You can do more things and it's easier. About the only downside is the quote chains.

...and granted, that is a pretty big downside. Not saying I think it's worse overall, but it's close, and it makes sense to me that people would want to go to the old way. I wish they'd hurry up and find a way to put quote chains into the new system.
