Oh, I got REALLY lucky in the beginning. I noticed "bean," but accidentally entered "beani" and noticed another "e" next to it. After that it was easy.

If you're not confident you can resist using the money at least until you can easily pay back the remainder, don't do it.

Also if you use the money, it's not in the account collecting interest, which defeats the whole purpose.

I don't think anyone opposed to the bill is saying Tik Tok doesn't have any problems. But those problems are endemic to social media in general. Our issue is that Tik Tok is clearly being singled out. And no one has found any evidence that Tik Tok is any worse than other social media. All they have is vague accusations (with no evidence other than the fact that they used to be headquartered in China) that the CCP is controlling the company and using it to spy on us somehow.

So now we have this xenophobic law that will take away something that younger people really enjoy, and since it leaves all the other tech companies alone, there will be no benefit to society. We'll just have all the same problems on the American-owned apps.

Well Dungeons and Dragons is obviously too big. Roleplay works in the puzzle but I think it's as overly broad as fantasy so I see no improvement there.

Companies are allowed to encourage their customers to take political actions that will benefit themselves. I don't see much of a problem with something like this--it's very open and transparent.

The stuff like, for example, how Uber and Lyft lobbied behind the scenes to manipulate California laws in their favor, now THAT is a real problem.

I mean it happens everywhere, but it seems especially common in music discussions.

My job has me go to different locations from year to year, and when entering a new place I have definitely had people come up and go, "Hi, are you (my name)?" then introduce themselves. Seems totally normal to me.

Her reaction is NOT normal. From what you said, it sounds like more of a her thing. But sometimes people put off creepy vibes without knowing it.

Definitely a good idea to talk to a supervisor in case she reports something. And from now on, with this woman, just do whatever the minimum amount of interaction is required for work. Be cordial, but don't do anything else. Definitely don't try to smooth things out by apologizing or explaining over and over again.

In another topic, I saw people saying that the board had gotten worse with bigots, and I have no idea how the hell they came to that conclusion.

Well one thing is, I do think transphobia is more prevalent than it was, say, ten years ago.

That's not to say that people were less transphobic before. Far from it. I'm sure people were more transphobic. But culture in general was also transphobic. We didn't see people fighting for trans issues as much because there were fewer people supporting them. And their transphobic views were seen as the norm. Plus, because acceptance was so low people just didn't encounter them and so they didn't have a chance to be bigoted. How can you misgender a trans person if you never meet an openly trans person?

So trans issues didn't come up as much. Bigots didn't think about trans people much so they didn't have things to say. As trans people become more visible and normalized, they become something the bigots actually might encounter in real life, which makes the bigots feel scared and uncomfortable. So they want to lash out and air their hateful feelings more.

The good news is, as it becomes more normalized, the bigots will dwindle in number and become more ashamed to air their true feelings. And eventually things will be much better than before. But we're experiencing a temporary spike right now.

That's why I think that right now there is more open transphobia than there used to be.

When it was active, LUE was basically a less extreme version mid to late 2000s 4chan. So lots of chaos, lots of immaturity, lots of angry flame wars, and lots of dumb shitposting.

Nowadays it's got way fewer people and everyone is old. So there's still dumb shitposting, but not as much and the board is very chill overall. One thing I do like is that there are very few bigots there anymore. The vast majority have gotten themselves banned years ago, and the few that remain know they will just make fools of themselves and be mocked/reviled by almost everyone, so they rarely post their bullshit anymore.
