Made in Heights is unbelievably good. I'm afraid I'll never get to #3 or #2 because this album has become my new obsession.

If they ever make a Tetris Effect 2, these folks should make the entire soundtrack.

Yessss another convert, though now I must apologize as you may be left wanting for more. They made two incredible albums and then disbanded and have a rights dispute resulting in the music being pulled from streaming services. However, I believe both Kelsey Bulkin and Sabzi have all the music (and Sabzi has instrumental versions as well) available on their websites for download. It's disappointing they are no longer collaborating as I've yet to find any other act out there that scratches the musical itch of Made in Heights.

I fit under this description but I'm not sure when I'd ever get to it.

I don't see what a live audience adds to GotY. I get it as a source of extra income for the site, but I feel like laughter and clapping is going to be a weird insert into the discussions and potentially distracting if the crew feels like they need to be in performance mode and find plenty of opportunities to pander to the crowd. The whole thing will feel less natural I think.

I didn't play the game, but I can't help but feel Octopath Traveler 2 is an extremely asinine snub from Best RPG when you consider Lies of P is in the category.

3 is first powered almost entirely but the nostalgia of being my first one. I'm curious to see how I respond to Reload now that I have more experience with the series under my belt.

I've watched a playthrough of 1. I'm sure it finishes last. I'm very interested in the 2 games and hope a remaster or remake happens someday.

Soccer (football to me) does a pretty good job of balancing this - the league by general agreement decides the best team in each country, but the cup competitions provide more drama and (in theory) the opportunity for underdog runs and titles.

That said I wouldn't underestimate how compelling a proper title chase playing out over several months can be. Last season's between Arsenal and Manchester City was a good follow (at least until Arsenal collapsed).

I wasn't a fan of the sport at the time, but it must've been incredibly exciting watching Leicester make their run to the title over the course of the entire Premier League season.

What if we had an algorithm, or better yet a group of sportswriters, to determine who the best two teams are and have them play a championship game?

I mean, soccer is the most popular sport in the world right? And there is so much money in euro football specifically, I see some of those transfer fees. They seem to be doing alright with that format.

I'm no expert in soccer, but I think English soccer is beginning to experience an issue with all that money. As a fan of a team that used to yo-yo between Tier 1 and Tier 2, the larger gap in ability between the teams in each tier is stark and it seems really hard for a team to plant roots in the Premier League before being kicked down to tier 2 again. At that point they have a lot of money spent on their roster and no longer have the income to justify that unless they are able to bounce right back up. Meanwhile there's only ever like five teams that have a chance of winning the Premier League.

There's more nuance to it than that and surely somebody who has been a fan longer than I have can expand on it, but the overall health I don't think is as great as the money would suggest.

Not having this website, and specifically this board, to visit every day would probably be a net positive in my life at this point, but I'm nowhere near ready to live in that world. I value this community too much and it has certainly positively shaped much of my life in many ways I probably can't pinpoint

I don't follow along that closely anymore, but I do not enjoy Mike Minotti. His voice is grating, especially when he raises his voice and I feel like he interjects into conversations at odd times? I dunno that could be me just struggling to pinpoint what irks me about him because I don't think it's entirely the voice. Maybe it's his overeager ribbing of people? Hard to say because the only thing I've listened to fully that features him is the Power Bombcast.

If people enjoy him that's fine. Just not for me.

What do you mean? The final bosses usually aren't bad. I'd say it tends to be fights just before the last boss that are worse, like Jingu or the man in black, and the final fight in Y4 is more similar to those than a regular fight, even if it's very manageable if you're properly equipped. 5's did take impressively long though

I think it was moreso there was no exhausting lead up to the fights. No scaling a tower fighting hordes of goons and mini bosses. I committed to engaging with the end and I only had to do the boss fights to be done.

Perhaps my memory is off since I have been playing in spurts over the course of five years now and am just remembering other fights that weren't the finale.

That was definitely the spot I was most worried. I hadn't properly loaded up on healing and had used my last one before I was able to whittle things down so that I could take out the gunman and be more methodical.

I really liked how they went about the boss fight at the end of Y4. Seemed more manageable and less frustrating than how I remember these finales going.

Its late at night as I listen to this. This singers voice and the light piano feel like they sync perfectly with an evening spent looking out the window at either a busy cityscape or a sky full of stars. I didnt expect female vocals; its a nice surprise. These nominations are way too sausage heavy for my liking. The singer, who goes by Kelsey Bulkin, is a real selling point for me; her voice is gentle but affected. Track 1, the awkwardly named Skylark Interabang?!, deftly combines her singing with some very heavy bass and beats. All the Places is even stronger than the first track to me: it feels more polished and pointed, less filler with all of the intricate beats and delightful singing. It even has backwards vocals. As we all know, everyone loves backward vocals.

Hors D'uvre continues the trend of being very chill and immersive. The beginning of Wildflowers (Exhale Efreet) took my breath away holy shit. This is very me core. Have we interacted before? You seemed to know exactly what I would like for this. IIRC you nominated for another musical topic of mine but I dont think you did this well!

No real comments for the rest. I got lost in it. I feel transported. This is absolutely my kind of jam. The songs all fit the same pattern of chill beats with some glitchiness. Nothing quite beats the high of Wildflowers, but thats a big bar to clear. Sorry I dont have much to say. In some respects thats the ultimate compliment, that I got so absorbed into the music that I forgot to take notes. This really is a terrific experience. I cant believe Im saying this and it likely contradicts some of the other writeups for albums that were over an hourthis is 34 minutes and it could have been longer and I probably still wouldve liked it. Nice work!

Glad you enjoyed it. I love Made in Heights. Sadly the duo disbanded years ago after only two (incredible) albums. There's a rights dispute between the two artists and because of that all the music was pulled from streaming services. Luckily both artists have links to free downloads of the discography. I knew nothing about your tastes going in. The reason I nominated this album is because you expressed a preference for YouTube links. Most people when they are asking for album recs are looking to be able to play it on a streaming platform and so I'm hesitant to offer Made in Heights up. Here was the perfect opportunity to get some thoughts on the album.

My personal top 3 is Hors Doeuvre, All The Places, and Holla Mears. I definitely prefer the wispy ambient tracks. Funny enough, the first track samples the first track on Sufjan Stevens - Illinois which was just covered on Rank the Tracks. As far as I know, that's the only direct sample they've used. If you are ever hankering for more, I highly suggest giving their second album Without My Enemy What Would I Do a spin. It's longer and more of the same, though it has a little more polish and a little less of the glitch that you are drawn to. There's a couple of tracks on there I think you would really enjoy based on what I've seen in this topic.

Did people who played Like a Dragon play with English or Japanese VAs? Whenever I get to it, I feel like I have to play it with Japanese voices. It would feel wrong otherwise.

answer for me is definitely Kiwami 2 though, story was so good and the engine felt good

slightly nervous to consider starting 3

3 was a culture shock after playing the three before it. The game definitely shows its age. My recommendation is just play through the main story and maybe some substories and be done with it.

Hell yeah top 10. Excited you enjoyed Made in Heights and looking forward to seeing to what extent.

Is the FF7 supplemental material (although I guess at this point it's looking pretty key to the plot?) actually good? Do people have a fondness for Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus? Are the games also turn-based or are they action RPGs? I know nothing about them aside from Crisis Core has Zack Fair and the buster sword, Advent Children is some Cloud and Sephiroth origin story I think, and Dirge of Cerberus is Vincent.

I'll probably find an extensive summary somewhere of the FF7 universe because i don't think I'll have the time for or ability to stick with both FF7 and Remake. Just how much content did they push out that took place in FF7 land?

With the hot new Rebirth trailer out, I find this question on my mind again. I haven't played either original or remake to completion. I would very much like to experience the Remake Trilogy(?), but with how they seem to have approached Remake I'm curious if understanding the divergences of the plot adds to the experience at all. Does not having the nostalgia of the original change how one appreciates both original and remake? Obviously we can't say definitively for Rebirth yet, but I bet that trailer made some people Leo point at the TV.
