Actually, by comparison to whats comingtake a moment to savor that line. Youll long for it by the time Diana starts inexplicably belting a love song to Charles in Spanish. Or when you start mentally tallying the number of words this show rhymes with tart. Or when Diana visits an AIDS ward in a hospital and a patient sings, I may be unwell, but Im handsome as hell and she offers to send him a case of eyeliner.

The second act is full of these meta-moments. Camilla and Diana and Charles duke it out inside a boxing ring as friends look on, the Thrilla in Manila with Diana and Camilla. (Camilla also gets rhymed with Godzilla, lest you think this show skipped that particularly poetic opportunity.)

If you haven't seen the staging, where he comes up out of the floor shirtless on a horse, you can't fully appreciate its greatness, but the voices in the background saying "you go girl" while Diana trades single-entendre horse come-ons with Hewitt are the direction I wish this had gone.

One thing (among many) that bothers me about Facebook and all these other social media companies, is that whenever they are on the defense, they put out these statements about how "Our company's goal is to connect people and foster creativity...yada yada yada" and they expect everyone to react to these statements as if they are legitimate and not just PR blather. I mean, BP and General Motors put out PR reports saying similar things, but no one takes them seriously, and regulators/politicians aren't expected to take them into account, when otherwise taking the companies to task. We know that their goal is to make money, and there's no pretense of anything else. But social media companies have trapped us int this weird mind game where we have to first prove their blatantly obvious objectives before moving forward.

Probably something nefarious? If so, it must have been in the works for a while, and when the 60 Minutes interview was announced, they figured it would be good timing.

I doubt this is intentional on Facebook's part to cover something up, though. Why would they have to take everything down in such a blatant way to do so? That being said, it is possible that Facebook tried to change something based on last night, and it got fucked up somehow.

I'm a little drunk, so here goes.

So you've generated a lot of interest and attention on the issue of mental health and the charity you've founded, and you decide to make the focus of that charity *rebuilding an orchard?* Even if Evan's stories were true, and Connor loved it, it was because it reminded him of his childhood not because there is something intrinsically therapeutic about orchards that some other troubled teen would get anything out of it. Why are they spending 100K plus of donations on this?

Also, when the whole viral video scene happened, I was like, "We're going to deconstruct this later ...right?...Right?!!" I was hoping for some kind of acknowledgement at the end that Evan Hansen didn't need to apologize to anyone besides Connor's family. None of these people cared about him until after he committed suicide, and no one in the movie ever called them out for this. Like, why does he owe Amandla Sternberg's character anything? She took what she thought was a suicide note that was given to her in confidence and posted it online to raise money. The only reason she's not the worst person in this story is luck.

Also, why did the suicide note turn everyone against Conor's family? That was so random, lol. "Wow, he thought life was meaningless. His parents must have been horrible." Well no shit he thought that. Why did anyone think he committed suicide in the first place?

Yes, of course. Remember everyone accepting the white woman that said two Latinas kidnapped her and held her hostage for no reason. Well accept is the wrong word, but she wasn't called out to her face for that insanity.

That being said, I think that, ironically, the boyfriend's attempts to downplay things were what caused this to blow up more than other "missing white woman stories." The sheer brazenness of showing up without her and acting like nothing was wrong was the "hook."

Those that do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. The moderate* members of the GOP will never reform anything, if that's even still possible, if they refuse to acknowledge their complicity in the actions that led to this point. Acting like Trump was the beginning isn't just morally indefensible, it's a failure on a pure analytical level. If you don't understand the logistics of how this happened, you will never get yourselves out of it.

Would I be willing to forgive some of these people and move on? Honestly, yes. But to get forgiveness you have to be honest with yourself and with others about what you need forgiveness for, or the exchange of apology/forgiveness will remain an empty gesture with no movement forward.

*Let's use the temperament definition of moderate here.

Yes, blatantly.

Watergate was about way more than just the break in. There had been a concerted effort throughout all of 1972 to sabotage the Democratic primary and get the weakest opponent to win. It always gets reduced to bugging the DNC headquarters, but it was about way more than that, and ran much deeper, ranging from things like the Canuck letter to spying on Daniel Ellsberg's therapist.

There has been a movement in recent years to say that Nixon was a pretty good president that made one tragic mistake, but that is not true either. He did implement some good policies, but he was also the first modern president to intentionally pit various populations in the country against one another instead of bringing everyone together, leading to the partisan mess we find ourselves in today. He just did it in a subtler, less obvious way. From the very beginning he knew what he was doing when he made the Silent Majority speech (a response to The Moratorium: the largest protest in the USA's history, and one that was completely peaceful and non-violent), which despite its placid demeanor was a deeply divisive missive.

Edit: On a side note, I love that this speech occurred at Disney World of all places.

I'm not sure that there is a "Citizen Kane of video games", if you mean a game that plays the same role, and whose popularity/reputation, played out in the same way as Kane did in the film industry/community. In terms of being the go to GOAT candidate, sure (although Vertigo has cut in on that a lot recently for film), however, I'm not sure there is a more direct corollary. OoT is more comparable to The Godfather, IMO, which was considered a GOAT candidate in both populist and critical circles from the very beginning.

Yes, around 10 years ago when the security system alarm went off at my house. It ended up being nothing.

There was also a time when I worked at an ice cream shop, and an indigent man came in right before closing and asked if he could just sit down for a couple minutes. He did, but then said he was too tired to get up and asked if we could call the police station, because they knew him and let him stay there overnight. We ended up calling the police station specifically in that case, not 911 or anything.

While I consciously like summer the best (Bring on the heat!), Autumn always hits my endorphins in some way I can't explain or entirely understand. I always liked school, so I don't know if this is some kind of Pavlovian response that's been drilled into me, that associates this kind of weather/season with new things starting, but it always makes me feel a little excited.

The spring weather this year actually started giving me flashbacks to the lockdowns starting last year. I wonder how long that will last.

The difference with PH, in regards to public reaction, was, I think:

A) There was laxer enforcement as to what could get posted on PH, so more illegal stuff was legitimately getting through. If there's some rash of illegal content on OF, it hasn't been publicized well enough to make anyone concerned.
B) The primary people making money off of PH (at least in the public's eyes) were the site owners/advertisers, not performers, so there were fewer, more unsympathetic content "creators" losing out.
C) PH has no monopoly on porn streaming sites, so there was less reaction to "losing content." Most videos are reposted on multiple other sites.
D) This is kind of a straw breaking the camel's back situation. Sometimes what makes people finally have enough, isn't the most egregious incident, but the most recent one in a long line of offenses.

The idea that the Democratic Party is on some level not be trusted, and corrupted by outside influences, is a foundational belief of the GOP that dates back to the post-Civil War period. The Democratic Party of those time was traitorous (the party of the former Confederacy), corrupt (the party of big city machines) and un-American (immigrants that are being bribed for votes*) in Republicans' eyes. Hell, two out of those three criticisms were actually true! Over the years the exact "special interests" that the Democrats are in thrall to have changed, but there is a core belief about the GOP's existence that remains unchanged.

There's a small subset of Republicans, including some Gen-Z ones, that despite superficially seeming like part of the conservative wing of the Democrats, have proven impossible to crack since this belief in the Democratic Party is so baked in with them. To them the Republican Party is the only "real" political party to represent Americans' interests, and they have the same allegiance to the GOP that people normally show to their country. Sure, we might complain about the USA here on this board, but it would take an awful lot for most of us to do something akin to treason, which is what some of these Republicans feel voting for the Democratic Party is akin to.

To be clear, I am not in any way defending this perspective. It's ridiculous, out dated and completely divorced from reality. I'm just trying to explain it.

It's not as confusing to me as to what these people want. They want a Taliban-free Afghanistan, and in their view the reason this wasn't accomplished was because we didn't try hard enough. That's not wrong; we didn't try hard enough past the first year, but that train left the station years and years ago. The confusing part to me is where these people think the political will to try hard enough is supposed to come from.

I wish there was more attention paid to glitchless stuff, but I know that that's not what most people want to see. Seeing how the glitches work is cool, but I'm more impressed by a glitchless run, then say ramming into a wall in Choco Mountain for days on end.

Mario 1 is kind of close to that, since the glitches there are pretty much to skip animations and stuff, not to really bypass anything you have to "do."
