It is fun to see how the precincts the candidates won map out pretty distinctly on a map of NYC, if you will excuse my crude generalizations.

https://gothamist.com/news/interactive-map-democratic-mayoral-primary-unofficial-results

Adams: Working Class Neighborhoods
Wiley: Hipster Neighborhoods
Garcia: Yuppie Neighborhoods
Yang: East Asian and Orthodox Neighborhoods

Bad news: This guy is. https://twitter.com/mattiekahn/status/1407056491597737993

Aside from that very normal answer he's the ex-cop who got endorsed by Giuliani and praised by Tucker and has been trafficking in Trumpian "stolen election" language in recent days to any prospect of him maybe losing. also said we could have one teacher teach "300 to 400" kids with Zoom.

Well other than that Mr. Adams how was the play?

Blueberries.

Edit: I'll also throw in support for dates, which I don't think anyone has mentioned yet.

Archiving the message boards was a huge mistake, and I will die on this hill. Sure it stopped the same repetitive questions/topics from being made over and over again, but 80-90% of people's impetus to make an account here in the first place was to ask/respond to one of those repetitive topics. At the very least, if they were going to archive the topics, they shouldn't have locked ones with lots of replies. How many people stumbled upon an interesting plot analysis topic on a board, wanted to contribute, then saw that the topic was locked and moved on?

I haven't thought enough about this to feel comfortable rating, but I've come to kind of view FFX's story as a reinterpretation of the Protestant Reformation, if not intentionally. I'm sure any story about battling an all-encompassing church probably has similar overtones, but the "salvation via good deeds" vs. "salvation via faith alone" divide seems pretty pointed if nothing else.

You're all wrong (and all right).

Katy Perry hasn't been really relevant as a singer for close to five years now, however that has little bearing on singing a song for Pokemon. This isn't the 90's in regards to people's view on video games. Big names have certainly done more "downmarket" projects in the past without their reputation taking a hit.

It's possible in Sans's case that he would have won registered voters by even more without 2015. For example, if he did 2 percentage points better among registered users in actuality (not sure the number here, just using an example), he might have actually done 5 percentage points better if the rallies in 2015 had never happened.

I can't really see Draven being an ordinary user fave over Ammy though.

GTA's (relative) collapse on the site (at the time that it did) is still utterly confusing to me. I've heard people blame it on The Boost, but Vercetti (and even CJ to an extent) still looked fine in '05. The drop off actually started afterwards, which makes even less sense, since it happened in the late '00s which is when casual bait games in general were at their height of popularity here, and casual voters in contests peaked.

In the Series Contest, people were predicting Warcraft to beat GTA because "GameFAQS has never liked GTA" which was categorically untrue, then their incorrect logic was proven right, and it's been all downhill ever since.

I live in a definitely lower half top 50 population city and would never in my wildest dreams assume that a home could potentially be average at 100k. Brooklyn would be an obvious massive higher number. Nobody that out of touch should ever be allowed to be employed in such a job, and the fact that the rich regularly employ folks with so little idea of reality into positions of power should tell you all you need to know about meritocracy, class, and the lack of working class influence of the nominally more working class party. Reminds me of Rahm Emmanuel being given the job of Ambassador to Japan, something he has absolutely zero experience with. Just nepotism and party favors. The working class needs to take this party over, lest it become as hopeless as labour in the UK.

Would you rather Rahm Emmanuel be in a position he actually *is* qualified for?

Just saw the Live Action Short nominees for this past ceremony. I've done this the past three years now, and if you get a chance to look at them before you make your prediction, I can assure you that the slickest looking one seems to always win.

Did anyone else see the winner? I have complicated thoughts about it, lol. It's an interesting premise (the main character keeps getting killed by police, waking up as if from a dream, and repeating the whole thing over and over, regardless of how many ways he tries to protect himself/"defuse" the situaton), but it goes on for so long that at some point it stops being about systemic racism and police brutality and is more about the set up itself.

There is also a scene where after he is shot by police, his blood pools out in the shape of Africa.

The Oscars have a perception issue when it comes to being "too political" but it is not based in reality in my opinion. The speeches in recent years are barely different from the ones that were delivered in decades past; the same bland platitudes keep getting repeated, but some people have just gotten it into their mind lately that this time the winners are being "political," and everything gets interpreted through that lens.

If anything, the Oscars would benefit from *actually* being more political. Where are the Marlon Brandos sending up fake Native Americans to refuse awards on their behalf? People think the Oscars are political now? Does the name Sacheen Littlefeather ring a bell?

I feel like a lot of this is ignoring the main issue. Adults in this country have stopped going to see movies made for adults, and would rather just infantalize themselves by watching nothing but franchise movies and films made for children. It's true that the Oscar nominees/winners are no longer box office hits, but that's not because the Oscars have become more stuck up in what they support; it's because audiences have. Best Picture winners like Terms of Endearment, Out of Africa, Platoon, Rain Man, Dances with Wolves, Forrest Gump, were all huge hits at the box office. None of those movies would be as popular now, because people refuse to go see anything they are not already familiar with. Being part of a "cinematic universe" is more important then whether or not a movie is actually good.

Edit: Social media has definitely taken some of the appeal out of awards shows as well. It used to be that these were one of the only times a year you could see these celebrities. Now you have people posting on Twitter and Instagram every day, and it takes the mystique out of Hollywood to an extent. When the AFI did their ranking of the greatest movie stars in history, twenty years ago, who was Number 1 on the female side? Katherine Hepburn, who famously eschewed the publicity machine and refused to do most interviews, giving herself an air of mystery that most stars today lack. Something to think about.
