TopicThe Transformers satirizes Muammar Gaddafi... as "Abdul Fakkadi"

The portrayal of Abdul Fakkadi as the stereotypical "evil Arab" prompted voice actor Casey Kasem, who himself was of Lebanese descent, to quit the Transformers series.

Fakkadi is loosely based on real-world politician Muammar Gaddafi, the leader of Libya at the time of the cartoon's creation, and an on-again/off-again antagonist of the United States.

Of course this came from a G2 episode. -___-

Reminds me of Seth Rogan's "The Interview", which infamously sparked outrage from North Korea with the Sony website leak. I'm also thinking of the Orc commander based off Harvey Weinstein in Lord of the Rings. It's interesting how this sort of thing can make a piece of media more memorable, especially in the wake of new controversy, but where do we draw the line between what's considered a righteous satirical jab & what's tasteless & offensive?

On one hand, I think seeing a pothead version of George W. Bush in Harold & Kumar 2 was pretty funny and also somehow thoughtful. Because hey, does he smoke pot? Lol. On the other hand,.....

Take any Christlike figure from media and we have an endless number of people who will find it distasteful for one reason or another. Either they're offended or they find it hokey or maybe a bit of both. I think The Matrix trilogy is a little guilty of that. Is it as obvious or offensive as "Fakkadi" tho?

Didnt Family Guy have to pull an episode over a joke about depicting Muhammad?

Um....

Basically, almost everything you see is a zombie in that game, so it's not exactly clear why the baby chickens were following you in the first place.

Even the seemingly regular humans behave in questionable ways, when you become the Horde. That one guy helps you solve a box puzzle. He'll just keep throwing it back until you win lol.... And then they try to trap you. It's strange. Was he leading you into the trap?

That event with the baby birds happens after the cornfield where you find the hatch to unlock the main hideout and secret ending. It's definitely suspicious.

The birds' behavior is sort of similar to that of mermaids or horde. They follow you. The hog follows you too, trying to kill you. So, I question whether or not the chickens were also being mind-controlled or actually trying to eat you or join your group or get you to join their group or something.

Some things in the game suggest that it's all a big experiment and a setup within a setup, like the miniature model of the ending scene you can see in the lab towards the end of the game. That everyone is just going through the motions under a controlled environment, but you can break free by unlocking the secret ending and deactivating yourself.

Maybe that one dead baby bird is a metaphor for the player, who is the odd man out, and needs to unplug themselves to be free. Lol

The game goes on until either (you) stop playing or die. XD

Attack on Titan started out as a brilliant take on the kaiju/giant hero genre but from what I've seen... skids to a halt around a sociopolitical / interpersonal drama. Ends up having shades of Guyver & Gundam, with a touch of Hayao Miyazaki. Evangelion or Akira she is not. Anyone really LOVE AoT past the first arc or 2?

Boba Fett getting fat while hanging out with Tusken Raiders? Just wouldn't happen, tbh

Boba Fett's voice changing to sound just like Jango Fett? Wouldn't happen

Boba Fett all of a sudden not coming across like a creepy sadistic quiet intelligence? Doubt

Boba Fett is arguably the most famous Wilhelm scream in Hollywood history. Didn't get the sense this show got that

They made him a little too much of a lame brain. Boba Fett in the original series was like a tiger. It stalks you and sneaks up on you, but if you catch it .. you shoot it and it's dead. Absolutely terrifying predator but still just a dumb animal at the end of the day. No match for a Jedi. Boba Fett in this series was the polar opposite. He looks kinda lame but ended up doing a bunch of cool stuff, and has a lot of bass in his voice. Not really near what the original had. Bulky. Indecisive. Honorable. Works well with others. Little slow on the draw.

Man, I'm REALLY trying here. I'm not being disingenuous. I'm genuinely trying to teach you something here. But I can only do so much. If you are unwilling to meet me half way, I don't know why I keep trying honestly.

Right now, do yourself a favor and look up/research what a scientific theory is, and how it's different from the common use of the word "theory". Until you do that and TRULY understand the difference, I fear this conversation will continue to go no where.

By the way, evolution is also demonstrable. And yes we have manipulated it and have been doing it for thousands of years with agriculture and dog breeding.

Pretty much none of the vegitables and fruits you eat are found naturally in the wild. They are a product of thousands of years of selective breeding.
Semantics and nitpicking

You want me to meet you halfway on what...? That a "scientific THEORY isn't just a theory"? Got it.

I'm not denying evolution. I'm acknowledging that there are holes in the theory which need to be filled before you call it a fact. Remember when people thought they came from neanderthal cavemen? Huge problem.

Awesome point on selective breeding. Is that evolution?

Do you consider synthetically hybridized plants to be evolution ?

Do you consider AI to be evolution?

For many of us, what our bodies are born with is not necessarily more important than what we learn, where we are born, and how we train our minds. For many people, THAT is human. The ability to empower yourself through education, and live in an advanced society, to drive a car, to vote, to discover who you want to be a take charge of that development. These are simply not goals which other creatures on earth will directly identify with on an individual level at least. Even relatively complex social structures in various animals (like apes or dolphins or ants) lack the sheer complexity of a human on both a philosophical level and a technological level, and

As far as I'm aware, we can tell it either coincides with OR predates the ice age. Those are some big shoes we're stepping in here. Have people changed much since then? How about the rest of life on Earth? Part of me wants to say human was biology's way of saying evolution isn't good enough, if you can see the irony there.

We actually do make a distinction between bacteria and fauna. To start, bacteria are NOT animals. Bacteria is its own separate category of life along with plants, animals, and if you didn't know, fungi.

And please please PLEASE educate yourself on what a scientific theory actually means. Because it does not mean what you think it does.

For example, gravity is a scientific theory. But you wouldn't say gravity is not a fact. So why make that mistake with evolution?

I feel like you have to be arguing disingenuously here....

Gravity exists. It's clearly demonstratable.

Exactly what gravity is.... Remains in theory and actually in that case, largely theory.

Also, the discussion of extraterrestrial life seems to differentiate between sentient & non-sentient, or advanced life. Do we not give ourselves the same distinction?

For example btw

If something non-evolutionary like mutation or tampering occurred to create human biology, one could argue that we did not come purely from an evolutionary background. When we genetically alter a something in a lab, is that evolution? Are we coaxing and manipulating evolution?

Evolution is a fact. No questions about it.

Human beings are not widely accepted as "animals". Even the evolutionary ancestry thing is still just a really really really strong theory, because we aren't super clear on a few of the details. Lots of missing links in the reptile/insectoid/amphibian life to mammal or avian. Tbh.

Anyway, all else aside, we make a distinction between flora & fauna based pretty much on Intelligence & locomotion. Those are the main differences. Plants dont walk upright. They don't talk. Y'know?

....We are unlike any other creature on earth. We are smart. We wear clothing.

Sure, youre genetically pretty close to a chimp, but then again...

Well, it's almost like saying you ARE your mother and father. For some people this is more true than others, but in no way are you literally the same organism. Part of us is animal. Part of us is not. At this point, I think scientifically the human race could best be described as.....

Higher plane-reaching cyborgs. Very, very primitive cyborgs.

There are those who subscribe purely to higher planes vs those who subscribe purely to cyborg life

Two things. 1. This is what I was complaining about in Mando season2. Nice guy Boba Fett doesn't work. On the other hand (2).... Exploring this character arc to explain how and why he became a nice guy sorta fixes the one glaring problem from the Mandalorian show: wussified Boba Fett for seemingly no good reason. A mixed bag

I like the good and I dislike the bad. The Rancor scenes were awesome. Seeing Grogu get half-assed was not. Watching Cad Bane get his ass whooped Tusken style was awesome. Seeing a shootout with accuracy comically worse than A New Hope was not. Watching the mayor and co get assassined was awesome. The fact that there was an after-credits scene was not. I like the idea of Boba Fett running the place to met out jobs and facilitate trading. I don't like the mix of quality. Shoddy special effects can be touched up in the future. Bad writing cannot. The prequels, for example, will never be saved by any amount of remastering. This was ok at best, but Mando S3 needs to up the quality again. I for one won't be sticking around for churning from Star Wars. It really wasn't acceptable then and it isn't acceptable now.
