Theory is the explanation of the data, not the data itself. Data is fact, not theory. This whole debate is silly because it mostly stems from people overcorrecting.

Man, I'm REALLY trying here. I'm not being disingenuous. I'm genuinely trying to teach you something here. But I can only do so much. If you are unwilling to meet me half way, I don't know why I keep trying honestly.

Right now, do yourself a favor and look up/research what a scientific theory is, and how it's different from the common use of the word "theory". Until you do that and TRULY understand the difference, I fear this conversation will continue to go no where.

By the way, evolution is also demonstrable. And yes we have manipulated it and have been doing it for thousands of years with agriculture and dog breeding.

Pretty much none of the vegitables and fruits you eat are found naturally in the wild. They are a product of thousands of years of selective breeding.
Semantics and nitpicking

You want me to meet you halfway on what...? That a "scientific THEORY isn't just a theory"? Got it.

I'm not denying evolution. I'm acknowledging that there are holes in the theory which need to be filled before you call it a fact. Remember when people thought they came from neanderthal cavemen? Huge problem.

Awesome point on selective breeding. Is that evolution?

Do you consider synthetically hybridized plants to be evolution ?

Do you consider AI to be evolution?

tc this is a real thing.

dude at work threatened to fight me becuz i told him that my dog is like my son, and he has a daughter.

he got fuming mad, and was telling me that i was full of it (dude was this spindly little bitch that looks like milhouse, i was not afraid of him), and since he was being so hostile i told him that the only reason he thinks of his daughter differently is becuz of religious indoctrination that humans arent animals.

dude got angrier and angrier, threatened to follow me out to the parking lot and i told him what time i get off and everything. after that he just told me "let's not talk about this again".

obviously i get the diff, but he didnt even get how he was being hostile first, and basically belittling how i feel about my dog.

Some people just think humans are more special then we are for whatever. We won the evolution lottery and thats it.

Otherwise we follow the same core flowchart from birth until death as most other animals.

If it weren't for people like me, you'd be "arguing" your case with fanatics and non-contenders all day. Does that sound super compelling or something?

We covered selective breeding and discussing what constitutes theory vs what constitutes fact. What am I missing?

Ah, plantlife. Someone actually bought up the idea that a virus isn't a "living organism". Because it isnt advanced and sentient? Seems like quite the distinction.

How we think of ourselves can effect our behavior. Having the body or spirit of an animal and taking inspiration from animals isn't a bad thing. Tbh. ^.^

Humans are literally just animals wtf is all this shit.

You are literally only smart because other humans taught you and you learned by observing them. You learned language at an early stage of development.

If a human grows up totally isolated, they act pretty similar to a chimpanzee. Definitely they would be "dumber" than a trained animal until they had some education, at which point they would have permanent brain damage from not learning language at an early age. This rarely, rarely happens. But it happens.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feral_child

Look at 2009 entry: Natasha (2009), born in Chita, Zabaykalsky Krai, is a five-year-old girl who spent her entire life locked in a room with cats and dogs, and no heat, water, or sewage system. When she was found, she could not speak, would jump at the door and bark as caretakers left, and had "clear attributes of an animal."

House pets and domesticated animals also display signs of civilization and higher intelligence. Sure we are smarter than cats and dogs, but they smart if you teach them, just like humans get smarter. Inside cats are smarter than feral cats. Family dogs are smarter than wild wolves.

In some ways, these animals having "cuteness to humans" as an evolutionary trait is extremely effective. House cats, as a species, are guaranteed to travel interstellar space at some point, without any of the hassle of having to evolve larger brains, develop advanced language, or raise their children for years. If humans achieve immortality, our house cats will also achieve it as well.

You are missing quite a bit actually. Because you refuse to learn and correct yourself when I have shown you that some of the things you are saying are false. And that's fine, because you should not take my word for it honestly. But I have repeatedly asked you to educate yourself a bit before we continue to discuss these things. All it takes is asking Google a couple of simple questions. And yet, you still have refused to do so and correct yourself.

It amazes me how all of the knowledge humans have amassed in all of our history is literally at our fingertips and people do not take advantage of that to learn some things.

Sigh...

This is not true. In science/physics a law is just a description of the phenomenon. A theory is an explanation of how/why the phenomenon works. Theories have been repeatedly tested and corroborated and are the highest level you can take an idea/hypothesis in science.

There is both the law of gravity and the theory of gravity.

The law of gravity describes the the force and it's interaction with objects. It's usually represented by an equation. The theory of gravity explains how and why it actually works.

Does no one here remember science projects in middle school? You are confusing theories for hypotheses
