I looked up how to save Kate afterwards, and I got really close to saving her. I felt pretty shitty about it. Might be the high point of the game apart from episode 4.

Oh also, I really enjoyed the FOB infiltration for a while. I thought that was a great way to handle the endgame. The lack of variety in the stages is a shame but it allows you to have that focussed infiltration that the main game mostly lacked. The mission at OKB-Zero also provided this. It's a very fun slice of raw gameplay.

So basically Ocelot is like Game of Thrones' Varys, who was the arch-schemer and pretty mysterious until the endgame where his intent was laid bare and he became a less interesting character.

I'm not going to lie, this Ocelot was not nearly as compelling as in his other appearances, but I did kind of like his outright admiration and deference towards Big Boss being laid somewhat bare. It added more to that side of him, whereas we'd already seen him be crazy scheming guy in 4 games prior to that.

They were like a mini-explosion of "normal Metal Gear" in amongst a game that was mostly completely different to what came before it.

This is one of those things that's probably hard for someone playing it now to understand. Playing the game as it slowly released meant that there was a lot of time to overexamine things and get our hopes up, and then Ep5 let a lot of us down by having past choices not really matter (just like every other choice-based game ever, sadly enough). I've warmed to Ep5 a lot since release, but I still sometimes think back on what it could've been and how easy it would've been to make a 10/10 ending if they had a bit more time, money, or put in a bit more effort.

I always figured it'd come down to something like that because I couldn't figure out a way to connect the storm with the problems I was dealing with, which is probably my main issue with the story. A massive, cataclysmic event doesn't care whether or not you kissed Warren or if Frank survived. I always had a feeling it'd come down to something separate from those more personal problems...though I suppose it comes down to whether those people are worth saving or if you prefer Chloe alone to all of them.

I briefly thought there might be some Prescott conspiracy going on to in some way instigate the storm (hence the bunker and canned food inside it) but that was too far-fetched.

So I just finished LiS

Didn't want to make a topic about it but I liked it a lot. Surprised at how bad episode 5 is thought of here. I thought it spent a bit too long with the villain monologuing and I wanted more freedom in the gameplay (like in previous episodes); it felt very constricted. But it did some stuff I really liked and I enjoyed just how fucked up it got towards the end.

I wasn't a big fan of Chloe though so I probably won't pick this up

As with everything else in wrestling, I think you have to take that kind of thing on a case-by-case basis.

You probably shouldn't change course on a storyline at the first sign of fan discontent if you're confident in your ability to pay it off in the future, but there's also no reason to stubbornly persist in going in a direction that is clearly not working. Eventually you've just gotta mercy kill it for your own sake.

I agree that there's no reason for companies to ever be so out of touch that that's necessary, but that's probably not realistic. Every company out there has had some swings and misses.

I agree - it will have to happen on occasion. I just take issue with the idea that "proper booking" doesn't involve real long-term planning and is always changing.

I don't really agree. I mean I get what he means and yeah sometimes you will have to adjust but it should be on the performers and writers to elicit the crowd reactions they want. Saying "we're now going to change the story and probably make it weaker than what we originally planned" comes off to me as a defeatist strategy. Know the crowd. Know your story. Be thorough in your decision-making and writing. And don't chicken out because the crowd seemed not to like one particular story beat.

You can point to Bryan at WM30 or the decision to have Rollins cash in as examples of plans being changed for the better, to which I'd say if WWE knew the crowd and their audience, the plans would never have needed to be changed in the first place.

There might be another one out there but the first thing I think of is Assassin's Creed 3.

I was ready for a new protagonist after 3 (excellent) Ezio games, I was ready for the conclusion to the whole Desmond story, I was hyped for the setting, I was excited for the new gameplay stuff

Then what we got was a glitchy mess with a bad protagonist, the Desmond story devolved into terrible nonsense and the setting was pretty boring. Should have seen it coming really. The stuff that would have been cool to explore in the US wasn't built yet, whereas all the cool stuff in renaissance Italy was.

Haytham Kenway, some cool gameplay stuff, the ship battles and not being totally sick of the formula yet saved it from being an unparalleled disaster but it really wasn't good.

I think the argument is that it's some kind of "SJW pandering" or that he's almost being emotionally blackmailed by the outrage rather than it being an authentic thing he believes.

I don't think it actually is that, I buy it's something he believes, and I don't think it would be right of him to do this if he didn't believe it. Could just be my white privilege talking or what have you but I don't see this as a clear case of right and wrong.
