TopicWhat are your sincere thoughts on the Epic Games Store???
TheGuiltySpark

I've only used the Epic Game Store because they did the shit thing and bought timed exclusives (Borderlands 3 and Final Fantasy 7: Remake) that I wasn't going to wait another minute to play. Other than that, I don't bother with it at all because Steam is my default.
For that reason, I also don't play Ubisoft, EA or Rockstar games. I'm not downloading another launcher, game manager, whatever to play your games. Fuck off.

Nope.
I knew when I was 16-17 years old that I didn't want kids. 18 years later, haven't changed my mind for a second.

(I do feel bad for my parents, who I know wanted grandkids - and deserve them, but the guilt is entirely that I let them down on that aspect of life. And no matter how much I'd like to please my parents, my aversion to the thought of having children outweighs it by... Everything.)

Coming from a regular toker for 20 years, you overdid it. 2 hits off a vape cartridge or bowl before I leave for the day takes the edge off of whatever I'm about to do for the next 2-3 hours, but remain 100% functional to drive, work, or engage in critical thinking.

I'm not convinced for a second. Consciousness, sentience, self awareness, whatever - it doesn't mean that it's alive if it has these traits. At least not as I would currently define the term "alive". But there has been *a lot* of redefining of traditional words lately, so who knows in a decade from now what the cultural majority would view as 'living'.

I think top 3, maybe even the single greatest mistake we can make in regards to this technology is to give it our faces. Literally. Robots, and then robots powered by AI in the shell of a humanoid form is (IMO) a plausible end to our species as we know it. Humans can already empathize with fictional and animated characters, and inanimate objects... Not only can I see people campaigning for their personhood, but also right to govern and accept positions of power. Actually fighting to put machines in authority positions.

To me this sounds like insanity, a technophobic's fever dream. But..
I also look at the social trends of the world we live in right now, and I truly think we are dumb enough as species to actually do something like that. In which case we really do deserve whatever dystopian Terminator end we get.

I've asked this question before years ago and didn't get much response back then... But with the AI explosion into the public sphere, I think now's a good time to revisit.

So. At any point, can an AI become 'human'? If it identifies or wanted to be recognized as such?

I personally say "No. Never." The thought of that even being a possibility scares me.

No one should use TikTok. Ever.
That doesn't mean legally banning it is the answer.

Also, it's not about TikTok. It's a power grab with a TikTok sticker thrown on it.
Topic1183 never played Chrono Trigger?

I don't get the Chrono series at all. I tried Chrono Cross first for Playstation, and made it maybe halfway through the game (hero character turns into cat person) before I abandoned it because it made no sense story-wise and the battle system was passable but un-exciting.
Then a couple years later I tried Chrono Trigger and played it until you get the Robot on your team, and never picked it up again. I enjoyed the art style, but the "story" made even less sense than Cross. (And I've played the Metal Gear series)

America was never great.

(But neither is anywhere else, ever, for all of human history, into the future. "Great" is a human concept with little objectivity, even less of which can be agreed upon or proven.)

I voted 3rd party in 2020 and my conscience is clear. I probably won't vote at all this election, still clear.

Been saying it for over almost 20 years, and no one can convince me otherwise: the presidential nominees are not the best America has to offer. Never have been. The DNC and RNC are legalized ballot box rigging.

Is your problem with the "MAGA" part or the "boycott" part?

Because if you believe in boycotts, but only for people that think like you, then...

No. I'm middle aged and childless for a reason.

That said, I'm good with kids. Most respond favorably to me, even some of the shy ones. They are quite useful in closing sales with the parents. Give the little shit some stickers or a pack of crayons and printer paper and all of the sudden the parent has an extra 5 minutes to sit there and soak up the rare moment they have where the kid's quiet and they can speak to another adult. That's when I club them over the head with a $1200 car repair bill. (It's a legitimate repair, I may not like children but I am ethical and so are my technicians)

Militantly anti-Valentine's Day since 8th grade. All my girlfriends knew this while dating me.

The workaround? They get their day of love, on any other date of the year (thats not another holiday) of their choice. And it's not Valentine's Day, it's "(Girl's name that I'm dating)'s Day"

I voted for a qualified, respectable woman for president in 2020: Jo Jorgensen.
I'd vote for Tulsi Gabbard if she ran.

Kamala Harris is not a woman I'd vote for, and it scares me that "yes" is beating "no" in this poll. Not even joking a little bit, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I saw that.

Based on your criteria for 'potency' and the fact that you specifically used the word "craving" in your post, it seems initially like you may be headed to/in the early stages of alcoholism.

This isn't the response you were looking for, but it may be the one you need: The easiest time to slow down and quit, is now. It only gets more difficult from here on out.

I'm not telling you what to do, only what I know and what I've seen. Good luck, friend.

Yeah, I'm over it.
5 years in this old, OLD house and I'm trying to GTFO.
Just found out at beginning of December that I need to replace $25-30k worth of plumbing underneath the foundation, running from the bathroom to the backyard. That's not gonna happen, it's definitely the next person's problem.
