He spent most of his presidency getting into fights on Twitter and about the only thing his supporters can point to as an accomplishment of his presidency was more a matter of timing than anything. (Overturning of Roe v. Wade via stacking the Supreme Court with conservatives.)

Considering he spent his entire Presidency constantly having roadblocks thrown up by grandstanding political rivals and being torn down by media, it's not as if he could have accomplished much of value regardless of whether or not his intended policies or goals were worthwhile or not (and I'm not even claiming they were).

But that's a level of perspective most people are utterly incapable of these days, because lol orange man bad.

Trump was pretty much doomed from day 1.

Not that any of that matters though. Most of the current problems with the US and the world aren't things that the President has any power over anyway. I'm not sure there's anyone on Earth who could "make America great again" no matter how hard they tried or how much everyone else in Washington was willing to help them. Most socio-economic problems at the moment are complex global scenarios that are nearly impossible to untangle on the national level.

And none of this is helped by the fact that the political system as it currently exists does not incentivize actually solving problems. The job of the politician is to say and do what they need to do in order to get elected/reelected, not to make the actual hard choices that are required to fix things. And voters are incentivized to vote for short-term benefits over long-term solutions that require personal sacrifice, so they will never vote in the best-interests of society as a whole. Especially when the expectation is that the voter-base will be informed and educated, while most actual voters are neither, and vote with their heart far more often than with their head.

So everyone pretty much needs to get used to the idea of a string of successive Presidents where each one leaves the country worse off than when they first took office, because that's the inevitable future.

Shit's fucked, enjoy the ride.

Yeah, him spreading blatant lies hourly, withholding Congress approved military aid to Ukraine in exchange for intel on the family of his political rival, him giving White House positions to every immediate family member, him exclusively appointing sycophants to important positions, him pardoning any criminal that proved themselves loyal to improving either his political power or his wealth, him refusing to act on COVID early, him spreading conspiracies regarding it including whether or not COVID even existed this spreading mass confusion amongst his cult followers and exacerbating the already difficult situation even further, him encouraging untested treatments for COVID (including but not limited to having using a flashlight as an anal probe, injecting bleach, and using sheep deworming medicine), him refusing to step down from the presidency after losing an election, him spreading conspiracies that his rival has stolen the election, him encouraging his cult members to attack the Capitol building to prevent the peaceful transfer of power, him stealing confidential documents and then lying about it, and certainly many other things I can't remember off the top of my head.

Yeah PO, all those things are because the media is mean to Trump. So very mean. Orange man isn't bad.

Different years, different circumstances for everyone

He got America working, did what he could for immigration at the souther border, signed the USMCA deal, started work on relations with North Korea at the Singapore Summit, he signed the Tax Cut and Jobs Act.. all good things for the country

Yeah, he screwed up with his Tweets during Jan 6 and yes, it's a shame he's running again, but it wasn't all that bad during his Presidency

I guess it depends what you consider great and what you consider America, like are we just talking about the American government? The American people? American culture? What how good does something have to be to be great? And how long?

A lot of great things have come from America, and I think generally Americans can be really good people (obviously not all, since there is no group that is 100% good) but the government has been trash for a long time, and American culture isn't what it used to be either, but I don't think that disqualifies it from being great. You can be great without being a paradise. I also don't think the government should be what you judge a country by, since they're all shit and it leads to negative world views.

Trump has pretty interesting legacy, he has done the most damage to democracy ever. Xi and Putin sit in awe of him. Musk licks Trumps withered sack daily. Besos has a rocket in his pants just thinking about Trump. And the best images ever of Putin and Trump making out were made during his presidency.

Futurama will need to replace Nixon as most evil president.

While I would never go so far as to claim that there are no good American people (I know several personally who are awesome), i
wouldnt say that the American people are great as a whole. Theyre certainly not perceived that way by the rest of the world.

Abraham Lincoln famously used the phrase "better angels" in his first inaugural address. Trump embodies all of our worser angels. Everyone commits sins. Countries are no different. Trump is everything we as Americans despise about ourselves: our racism, our sexism, our bigotry, our will to dominate others, our lack of empathy when we know it flies in the face of our own principles of justice and equality. America is a good country full of good people. Trump is us at our lowest.

Well... He didn't go after the intelligence agencies.

I remember he fired the FBI director but here we are with ex-CIA doing the news and 'toasters' spying on us.

And Fauci was neck-deep in developing covid, possibly at the behest of the CIA if Eco-health really was a front. And believe it or not they're still playing with covid over in china. The last I heard about it, it attacks the brain in mice.

They're still playing with Covid in most places. It remains a considerable public health concern and it's still relatively poorly understood, especially as far as long Covid goes, so of course efforts are being made to research it.

None of what you said is mutually exclusive with recognizing Trump as an awful president and an awful person in general. The facetious dismissal of complaints against Trump as "orange man bad" rings pretty hollow when you're talking about a man who:
a) Is facing down just shy of 100 criminal charges, making him the only former president of either party to be charged for crimes conducted while in office (with a big asterisk that Nixon probably should own that [dis-]honour, but Ford made sure he didn't).
b) Was found to have defrauded the government and investors to the tune of almost half a billion dollars
c) Is an adjudicated rapist (!!)
d) Was the only president to have been impeached twice, including for an incitement of insurrection over the single time in US history where the transfer of power between administrations did not happen peacefully.

None of that is subjective or debatable, or getting into a discussion on any of his other numerous misdeeds and what I'll call "politically dubious" actions.

If you think Trump didn't get a fair shake from the media and political opponents... well, judging by that rap sheet, they were probably right not to. He really was that bad.

Do you think this is anything approaching a competent argument? Yea Trump tried to enrich himself through blatant emoluments violation and diverting military flights to his properties... but the damage he did to his own reputation with how poorly he did his duties as president outweighed it. Yea presidents being wealthy when they take office and leaving even more wealthy is the norm, but it's Trumps own fault he lost wealth. No one forced him to do the stupid, brain dead stupid, things he did.
