The MAGA part. And it's not because they don't think like me, it's because it's a cult. They are coping because they won't face the reality that daddy Trump lost again.

It's not even just that he lost, they're protesting because they believe he should be above prosecution for crimes he's committed. They don't believe he's innocent, just that he shouldn't face any consequences that might interfere with his ability to act as their messiah.

Side note: Apparently there are 3.54 million truckers in the US. Even if every single one of them were on board with this (and they aren't), that's not very many millions. This is "one million moms" (actually about 10k) all over again.

There's a lot of great things about America and cities aren't one of them, they have have some cool shit in some cities but mostly they suck. Like I love Chicago food, and you can't have sports teams without cities and you probably won't be getting any cool concerts near you without cities, etc. but they are also overly taxed, crime ridden cesspools that will try to take all your money, whether it's the politicians or the fellow people.

True story: my uncle (a retired trucker) worked with a guy named Bill Coleman, who was NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt's maternal uncle. They looked scarily alike, except Bill's hair was lighter (when I met him for the first time, I said "You look a lot like Dale", he just grinned and said "Naw, Dale looks like me, I was here first.") He was the first person to inform me that Dale was a lot less conservative than most of his fans would have thought. Perhaps the most famous story is that, he had a black housekeeper who one day asked him why he had a Confederate flag in his house, and told him what it represented to Black Americans. He yanked it off the wall, trashed it, and apologized to her on the spot.

as someone who lives in a small, mostly republican town, they try and take your money harder than any city i've ever seen

recently we had a bump in taxes to cover road costs. i say recently but this was 3ish years ago and

we have had exactly 0 fixed roads, but the mayor just blew a cool 2.5m on a new boat.

we can't have a dispensary here, because of "the children" and scares of it making everyone addicted and ruining the town, and yet nothing is being done about the fact that meth use is running rampant here

Bonus points where the "high taxes" thing is often parroted by people who live in suburbs and therefore have their low tax rate overwhelmingly subsidized by those higher taxes in the city core. Most single-family suburban homes in America are tax-negative when you factor in all of the other infrastructure costs involved in servicing those neighbourhoods, and while I can understand preferring to pay less property tax than more (because who doesn't?), it's pretty short-sighted to gripe about cities' high taxes when they're literally the only reason they have a road at the end of their driveway.

Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If the banks evaluators accepted it as collateral than that's what it worth, for a loan...that got laid back.

Dude. This isn't about what he sold or what parties agreed on, it's about what one party lied about for personal benefits. Do you think if the banks sent out "evaluators" to assess it and agree with his assessments this would have happened? You're also trying to nit pick and avoiding the tax fraud part of it.

so fraud is okay because they got paid back

lmao ok

except them getting paid back isn't what constitutes the fraud. (did they even get paid back lmao)

Trump and others at his company had inflated valuations of his properties by hundreds of millions of dollars over a the course of a decade and misrepresented his wealth by billions in a scheme, the state said, intended to trick banks and insurers into offering more favorable deal terms.

yeah, that's cut and dry fraud

If I claim that I own 10 tonnes of solid gold bullion and I use that as collateral for a loan, but it's actually just some cardboard cutouts painted to look like gold, I have committed fraud, regardless of if I pay the loan back or not. I claimed to have more value to my name in order to secure the loan than I actually did, thereby exposing the bank to substantially higher risk than they were willing to take on; that they ultimately didn't suffer for taking on that risk doesn't mean that I acted honestly or ethically, nor does it mean I didn't commit a crime.

And this is doubly true if, for instance, my local government passed a law that adjusted taxes based on your personal wealth and I stated in my claim, "Oh, I don't have any gold, just cardboard", which shows that I am knowingly and willfully deceiving the bank (and if, hypothetically, a couple of those bullion *were* actually gold, I'm also defrauding the government, much like Trump did when he highballed his property evaluations when trying to secure loans, then lowballed them when the tax assessors came around).

hungrymike posted...

Which does not give you the right to deliberately try and deceive them. That the bank should have caught Trump out in his lies (and would have, had they done better due diligence) does not mean his attempts at defrauding them are A-OK.

This is like suggesting that it's not battery unless the other person fights back.

"The justice system in New York state and America as a whole is under assault by partisan, deluded, biased judges and prosecutors." - Trump

I'm running out of patience for people who see political agendas in every fucking goddamn thing because of years of MAGA rhetoric(AKA lies) that they consume and regurgitate without any critical thought whatsoever. Sooner or later you people will see reality. Trump is a fraud and rapist, among other things, because that's what he is. MAGA people don't seem to understand things like facts and evidence.

Depending on what they're shipping, it could even be characterized as terrorism. If it's stuff like heating oil or food that are essential for life, a large enough movement to limit the availability of those items is putting people in danger to coerce the local government into making changes.

The only way this guy keeps his job is if his trucking company would never send him to NYC anyways, like if his typical locations are all on the SE or something and he does 100% of his deliveries down there.

Honestly, the idea of populations being monoliths is hilariously ignorant. As Randall Munroe so adroitly put it: there are more Trump voters in California than Texas, more Biden voters in Texas than New York, more Trump voters in New York than Ohio, more Biden voters in Ohio than Massachusetts, more Trump voters in Massachusetts than Mississippi, and more Biden voters in Mississippi than Vermont.
