Lmao holy fuck, yes it literally is. They are tenured professors (usually). The vast majority of professors at a university are not "full professors." They have the exact same responsibilities and if anything work and research harder as they try to move up the tenure ladder.

An associate professor is a professor. The difference between associate professor and full professor is not relevant to this discussion, and not relevant to the wider public outside academe.
