He had a midlife crisis type thing where he moved to the city, didn't work, tried to work doing different jobs, then in the finale had Hal promise not to reveal to Lois that Francis actually loved his 9-5 cushy office job.

I kind of hate how they pretty much regressed his character after the massive leaps in maturity and responsibility he took during the 4th and 5th seasons working on the ranch. They turned him back into a loser for the remainder of the series until the finale, where he still has to lie to Lois about his job.

Who is Pyra/Mythra?

The deuteragonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. They were picked over the actual main character Rex, but Rex would have played pretty much the same way as them anyway, since they provide and are his weapon.

Uhhh, this reveal was fine since it wasnt a Fire Emblem swordfighter.

Its the FE clowns that make swordfighters boring.

I mean, all of the completely new FE characters added since Smash 4 have mixed things up so that they're not just swordfighters.

Robin uses magic and has a durability mechanic.
Corrin makes use of her dragon transformations.
Byleth has the other three major FE weapon types as part of his arsenal, and even his sword is capable of extending.

I think the issue is the Marth derivatives, who were all added to their respective games towards the end of development to pad out the rosters, and Roy himself was cut and only brought back due to popular demand in Smash 4. Chrom also had popular demand in Japan.

But I do think people are very frustrated with how Nintendo has basically abandoned many of their classic IPs. I guess it's sort of rearing its head in Smash now as well.

I mean, as far as Nintendo's own offerings, they're pretty much all set without going into the deep cuts of their more niche titles, which for DLC Fighters would not be very wise (such characters would be better fit as base game additions).

So, iat least with the DLC, it makes sense that we are seeing Fighters from newer Nintendo games, along with third party Fighters.

Why are they wasting time expanding franchises that already have representation in the game when they could be spending their resources adding entirely new franchises? The past 2 fighters have been way less interesting than it would have been to add 2 new franchises to the game instead.

Xenoblade 2 in particular was barely repped in the game (just three music tracks and some Spirits, and Rex's Mii Outfit as DLC), and it was a very popular Switch title. There's no problem at all with them wanting to expand the series' scope in Smash using a title that they were unable to include until now.

Plus, since Nintendo owns Xenoblade 100%, it's far easier to deal with rights and negotiations, which may be a boon in this COVID society.

That's completely false.

If you try to play Marth the same way as Ike, or Shulk, or Robin, or Byleth, or Sephiroth, then you're going to have a bad time.

Not to nit-pick, but isn't Elma a PoC? In the sense that her usual depiction is a sort of ambiguous brown. She's not black, obviously, but she looks like a sort of darker skinned Asian woman.

Unless you mean her other appearance, which is much paler.

It's the fact that she's not even human; she's a literal alien wearing a human disguise.

About the only valid thing in that entire thread was the point about Mai. She can't cameo because of boobs yet they add Pyra, why by far has the biggest boobs in the entire roster.

Mai also has very skimpy, loose attire that shows off a lot of her skin, and also has copious jiggle physics.

Pyra and Mythra show less skin, and even less in Smash.

It just points to an unfortunate reality about the severe lack of black characters in general in video games. Especially as protagonists. Doesn't help that Smash is mostly Japanese IPs.

Nah, I think some of those people just want a black character to fill some type of diversity quota. I would love for a black character to get into Smash Bros. but theres not really any great choices. This is more of an industry problem than a Smash Bros. problem. Smash doesnt create its own characters so they cant really put in some random black character. The fact that some people in that ResetEra thread suggested characters like Doc Louis or Cherry Hunter feels a little insulting to people like me because it seems like some of these people want diversity points. Some of the other suggestions, like Elma, arent even PoC.

Thankfully, several black users in that same thread voiced their opinion on what they think about the lack of representation and how it doesnt offend them. Its tiring to see people, who typically arent black themselves, be offended for individuals such as myself.

Also agreed. I would LOVE for there to be actual Black Fighters in Smash, but there needs to be actual Black protagonists to choose from first, and the gaming industry is very lacking in that. The Japanese side is one thing, but it's especially glaring that American-made games also tend to shy away from them.

But that also point towards another issue of there just not being enough Black game designers and directors--people with actual pull and not just the grunts--in the industry, to help add those characters to the fold.

Its odd how Sakurai said whats important about a character is that theyre fun to play and then decides to just keep adding generic anime sword characters that are essentially the same.

You didn't think this through. It's just that there's a disproportionate amount of these anime swordlads. It's not like anyone was mad about the introduction of Marth, Roy, or Ike. It just got saturated with 4.

It's not just the "anime" characters, either. Newer characters like Bayonetta, Steve, and Min Min also got hate.

And as far as "anime" swordfighters are concerned, Smash 4 only added Robin, Lucina, and Shulk, with Cloud and Corrin as DLC. That's five Fighters out of 20+, six if you really want to include Dark Pit, whose bow can split into dual swords. Ultimate's base game only had Chrom, and while I admit that nearly half of the DLC fighters so far are swordfighters, overall they still make up a small portion of the roster.

The number of "anime" swordfighters in the game is overstated, plan and simple.

Smash fans are perpetually stuck in the 90s and early 00s, and thus want characters from games they grew up playing, not from newer, modern games.

That's why "anime" is such a buzzword, even though Link and Zelda 100% fit the anime aesthetic (but again, they grew up playing the Zelda games, so they get a pass).

Each generation shift sees diminishing returns compared to the one that came before it.

You probably won't see anything like the jump from SNES to N64, or PS2 to PS3 again anytime soon, if ever.

The blond girl Mythra is the original and more of the "tsundere" of the two, but events in the past forced her to come up with the more demure persona Pyra to deal with the trauma.

The 3rd party selection is consistently weird. They only have a few lesser-known publishers involved. I think it's because stuff like Capcom, Konami, and Square is already making bank from compilations and individual re-releases.

This is true. Nintendo is essentially giving these games out for free to their Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, so the big third party companies want no part of that if they can't get a cut of the money.

Anyone affected by the weather still have to go into work?

Luckily for me, they announced not too long ago that my organization was to do remote work only. There were concerns that because of the remote work, us IT techs had to go onsite anyway to make sure that the users' PCs were on so they could do said remote work, but the assistant IT director confirmed that we have to stay home as well.
