combat is decent with decent depth to it if you actually combo in with other weapons

Still felt pretty clunky doing that and it didnt feel like it mattered much.

This exactly. There was room for depth, but there was little reason to explore it. Also didn't like how items were so abundant. Sure you can tell me not to use them. But that's like hitting the game over button by myself, just to create my own difficulty. Doesn't really add to the tension. Definite need for balance there.

I've always used Zelda and I'm going to keep using Zelda. With the changes I've seen already done to her I'm thinking she may actually get out of bottom tier, but if not -- I'm going to keep using Zelda. In my circle of friends I beat everyone almost every time with her and I don't have any tournaments anywhere near me. I have a hard time finding someone who can destroy me online and when I do I just take it as an even more fun challenge. I can't wait.

I stopped looking for a girlfriend. My personality type, INTJ, apparently has the hardest time finding a partner. Not like I would let a test like that deter me, but it lines up with my experience. I'm not picky.
All I want:
Mutual attraction
Plays games or is open to it
Can drive
Decent job
Lives within 50 miles of me
Nerdy interests
Not an emotional clusterfuck
Not handicapped
Speaks English

I know if I just get out there more and exercise I'd find someone but I'm too lazy to do that. I've been in two short relationships, but I broke up with the girls for legitimate reasons. Fortunately I'm happy single so that's good. Too many people act like they need a relationship to be happy imo.

Drawing from your imagination would require TC to draw upon knowledge that he has gathered from previous drawings, which he doesn't have much of. He is a beginner and needs to study value, lighting, composition, anatomy, perspective, etc. Drawing from life every day will help a lot. Targeted study, like drawing 100 hands in different poses, learning where the muscles attach, what bones are where and why that causes light to land a certain way on the human body, can help a lot too. Copying Pokemon or anything from a video game is not ideal. It's not useless..it's better than nothing of course. Just not ideal if he really wants to learn in a short amount of time.
You can draw from imagination as an exercise to test how much you have retained and to gauge your understanding.

The art is still bad. It's like saying someone who is 15 with a driver's permit is a great driver simply because he's learning. No, not really.

...What? How does that relate to what I said?? Yes the art is not good (I agree, that is fact). Because TC is learning doesn't make him good yet. Obviously? What? I don't get why I was quoted here.

Andromicus posted...
The first thing you really have to learn or really unlearn is to stop drawing with your brain.

To elaborate on this...as I don't think you fully explained your point. Lotta times we have a picture in our head of what something is supposed to look like. Not what it actually looks like. Iirc the book I recommended actually has a chapter on that phenomenon. One exercise in it has you drawing something upside down so that your brain doesn't attach these misconceptions to your drawing.

TheGreatNoodles posted...
This is probably not gonna help my case, but I have been drawing for quite awhile.

It absolutely will not help your case. The proof is in the pudding. People will say "Oh I've been drawing for this many years." when in reality, how much of that time was spent drawing? How many drawings have you done? Of what subjects? For how many hours? You can have a person on the street creating relatively the same piece of artwork for years and not show much improvement. At the end of the day, no one will be looking at your degrees. They'll be looking at your portfolio. You need to study and practice.

Doctor Foxx posted...
The most benefit I had from art classes was practicing techniques that were crucial for understanding how to break things down to paper. That meant hundreds of drawings of things I didn't care about so I could better understand what I did want to draw

It's tedious but essential for improvement

I see little to no improvement among the three of them. I would have believed you if you said they were drawn on the same day. I would suggest drawing with a pencil and paper. You do not want to be relying on technology at this stage. Ideally, I don't think you should be drawing any kind of anime, and preferably real people to start, but you gotta have fun too. However you will be copying any of the artist's errors, so keep that in mind. If you want to be casual about it, draw all the anime you want. If you want to get serious, study anatomy and draw people in front of you, ideally not from pictures. Draw bones, muscles, hands, feet, eyes, the face, from every angle. That knowledge can be applied to future drawings, which includes the fantasy variety.

To be fair, the drawing skill level presented in anime has a very wide range. Personally, if you insisted on drawing from anime, I would suggest looking at Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra. Really inspiring stuff. The shows retain good anatomical accuracy and have tons of fight scenes where you can see the body in action from different angles.

A good book to read is Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards. It was written by an art teacher who over the course of her career analyzed how her students were learning. An EXCELLENT book and extremely valuable to an artist just starting out.

Anyways good luck, idk what your goals are. But right now I can tell you have a lot of work ahead of you, which will require a lot of self discipline if you want to get good.

Thanks for proving my point.

We just have different tastes. I love both Witcher 3 and KH2. Played them both over 150 hours. Calling my preference nostalgia is where I have the issue. I am able to separate myself from my love for a series and call the latest game a piece of shit without any hesitation. I've played many many RPGs over the past 20 years. KH2 is an excellent action RPG, and many of the fans are lining up for KH3 for that reason whether you like the game or not. The series wouldn't be as popular as it is if they didn't generate good games.
It's a clear difference of opinion. It is possible for older games to still have good qualities and stand the test of time or remakes wouldn't exist. But we're obviously not going to get anywhere spinning our wheels. I've already made my stance clear. There's not anything else that I care to say about it.

KH2 is such a finely crafted experience, but that was also so long ago that I don't think they can top it.

The problem I see here is some folk are that obsessed with Kingdom Hearts 2 they want every entry after that to be like it yet it'll never be topped due to nostalgia.

KH2: FM+ is easily one of if not the best game in the series. Any KH fan will tell you that. A few games in the series were simply bad. Not because they weren't KH2. Because they genuinely sucked when compared to not only the KH series, but video games as a whole. I'm sorry but nostalgia goggles is not the issue here. I've been gaming over 20 years and know it when I see it. This isn't the case. Couldn't disagree more. KH2 had a lot going for it. The fans want to have that level of quality experience and more in the third game. Simple as that. We want a good game.
I am personally very averse to the attempt at nostalgia that Nintendo shoves into every new game they come out with. So yea, nostalgia pandering drives me nuts.
The KH2 battle system is superb even by today's standards. Even top games like Witcher 3, the battle system in it can't hold a candle to KH2. Although if anyone has one that compares I am super open to suggestions.

Witcher 3 was pretty good but I can totally understand that it's not a game for everyone. The battle system definitely could use improvement as well. Not even in my top 30 games though. Probably would've liked it more if I read the books (if the books were any good.)
And I played Spore all the way through about three or four times!! Lol but I heard it was a disappointment to a lot of people. I never knew the game existed until it was already out.

The game that hurt me the worst was probably Super Paper Mario for the Wii. I absolutely adored the Thousand Year Door for GCN, and to see the battle system completely ripped out of it killed me. Instead you just jump on top of the enemies. Nintendo is so damn attached to appealing to nostalgia. Needless to say next gen I switched to the Sony ship. Nintendo has very few games that are must-plays for me. So when they ruin one of them, it hurts.

I played it briefly with my roommate this morning for about 30 minutes. Player one controls Kirby, the other players control any one of the three remaining characters. Kirby changes his hat when he gets a power, the others become that enemy entirely. Anyone can steal powers from enemies. If someone goes off screen away from Kirby, they are teleported back next to him. Food heals, and if whoever picks it up is at full health, they can walk into an injured party member to give it to them automatically.
There are three special enemies you can unlock for use that I saw. King Dedede, Metaknight, and Waddle Dee. Any player can go through doors to transition to another area. Only player one gets control of navigation on the overworld map.
Pressing up on the control stick gives you the option for other party members to apply elemental effects to your power when possible. There are no rankings, aside from a small and very brief mini game at the end where you can earn life ups.
It was brain dead easy, but I only played the first few levels.

Getting a job you enjoy can take a lot of work. It could involve starting up and running a business yourself, or entering a field that is highly competitive. Both risky and generally not as realistic standard 9-5 job. Being American, I never had the impression that America was work obsessed. The ones that are do it out of necessity. Supposed to hate I wouldn't go that far at all. That's simply unhealthy.
