I like the first arc, but the story noticeably picks up by the second and third series. Most would say it comes into its own during the third, actually, as it has the general template of the future installments.

The combat's decent, and some of the allies (Vetra/Drack) were fine, but it doesn't reach the same heights as previous MEs.

I will now bestow upon you my favorite mangas:

- Jin
- Liar Game
- Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Pt. 7: Steel Ball Run

SBR is about a cross-country horseback race, except the participants have strange powers. I guess you could read it as a standalone, but all the JJBR series should be read chronologically, honestly. (Or watched, since the anime's up to Pt. 4.)

Jin is about a Japanese brain surgeon who, through mysterious circumstances, gets thrown back in time to the early-1800s feudal era. Y'know, samurai, warlords, xenophobia, etc. Since he can't find a way back, he sets up a practice and meets various figures from Japanese history, all while putting on a clinic (literally) of amazing medical techniques. It's rather serious-minded, but a fun read, if you like historical/period stuff.

Liar Game is a thriller of sorts about a girl who gets entered into a tournament. The rules: participants are given a huge sum of money and can advance through stages of the contest by bilking others out of their winnings, which makes them incur a huge debt. The MC girl doesn't want to cheat people, and enlists some street-wise cerebral guy to help her advance through the tournament, basically screwing up the shady framework and paying off the others' debts. It sounds kinda lame, but it's pretty fun. (If memory serves, the art doesn't start out too amazing, but improves over time.)

If you're interested in Korean manga (they have some different term for it), try Noblesse and Tower of God. They're both ongoing, but definitely above-average.

I wasn't sure about some parts (usually the Diane ones), but Cooper tried going back into the past -- for lack of a better word -- to stop Laura from dying in the first place. That part where she leaves James at the crossroads and runs into the woods is from Fire Walk With Me, IIRC (and mentioned in the first season). Saving her by leading her to the Black Lodge portal didn't work, and trying the other method -- the Odessa, TX one -- didn't work out either, since her parents didn't even live in the birthhouse in that timeline. (The names mentioned as the previous occupants are Tremond/Chalfont, referring back to the old lady and magician brat from Donna's Meals on Wheels route in the second season. They're Lodge spirits of some sort.)

Cooper seemed pretty exasperated by all of it, compared to his energetic, chipper self in the 17th episode. The being possessing Sarah Palmer might be the one thwarting Coop's attempts to right past wrongs.

Surprising that Audrey had such a minor role in the show, though.

She quite possibly has one of the most major roles in the show based on the finale.

We know next to nothing about her situation, or whether anything she saw/did was based on reality, so claims like that seem tenuous. That said, Audrey is a fan favorite, and having all her annoying scenes be a figment of her (or someone else's) imagination would be welcome.

Probably could've used some time more wisely (that long-ass ride from Odessa) but overall, I enjoyed it, mostly because I never expected it to answer more questions than it creates. Surprising that Audrey had such a minor role in the show, though.
