Feels like it's a problem that's ingrained into the very fabric of our society, like we need to find better ways to live and interact with one another. Hits especially close to home since I myself have always been very asocial. It brings to mind the idea that being friendlier and more open, being more willing to give people time, understanding, and acceptance, could be more important than one might realize before it's too late, but if we can learn from past mistakes, then future tragedies can be prevented.

That's why I don't like saying that it's nobody's fault. If there's at least some idea of why something happened, then there may be an invaluable lesson to be learned that can help people. Never in this topic did I say anything with the intention of pointing a finger in ridicule or condemnation. Rather, I believe mistakes, faults if you'd prefer, are opportunities to find better ways, and that it's especially important to make the most of those opportunities when the cost is so high.

sodium-chloride, my condolences for your cousin. I hope your family finds some kind of closure some day.
LinkPizza, I wish you and those with you the best in helping one another manage well situation you're in.

People are EXTREMELY good at hiding their emotions if they are trying to keep up an image or be strong for family/friends.
So they can. So what? I think the relevant question is why. Why, if you care about your family enough that you would want to protect them from worry, would you subject them to the loss of a loved one? Was the alternative too hard? Why would it be more difficult to talk with his family seeking help or advice to help him get through his difficulty than ending his own life? That just doesn't make sense to me unless the person or persons in question have previously made themselves less than approachable in matters relating to help/advice.

If you've got another reason why that might be without implying than that a person on the brink of ending their own life is too stupid to be expected to seek rational alternatives resolving their problem, or that I'm a horrible ignorant monster for trying to explore a subject that, with better understanding could save more lives, then by all means, I'd like to hear what you have to say.

This kind of response to someone saying sorry?
Honestly, my apology there, I was being extremely sarcastic. I just said that this situation, being so burdened by going through something so insurmountable that you'd even consider taking your own life over it, and your folks are totally ignorant of it, thinking you're the happiest person alive when you're ready to die because you just can't take it anymore, that is very sad, and that's not me being sarcastic or mean, I meant that literally, from a place of sympathy, and I got dogpiled for it! Should be reasonable that I'd be pissed off about that.

Yeah, I guess I'm wrong. It's not his fault. He did everything he should have done. There's no fault here. It's a random tragedy and there's no important lesson to learn from it. Nothing about this suggests families should be closer and more social, to help each other through difficult times when critical social interaction is so lacking. Sorry everyone.

I don't expect even a large waterfowl to be able to make itself enough of a threat to warrant retaliatory harm. Even with the maximum aggression of a life-risking parental defender, it would count against me to respond violently in such an uneven conflict. Now, if you had said a cassowary, that would be more interesting. I'd still endeavor to end the conflict with minimal harm to either side, but whether or not I'd be able to afford such mercy while avoiding severe and potentially lethal injuries myself I could not be certain.

"Leaving your children without a parent isn't really "endangering", them though." - Disagree. It may not endanger their lives, but it can certainly endanger their development.
"would you support different laws (regarding seatbelts) for parents vs. childless people?" - I could get behind that, thought it'd probably be opening a can of worms. Ahaha, I can already imagine having the "zero dependents" status encouraged by people hoping for a timely organ donation!
"What about single parents vs. those with a partner?" - No, losing a supporting pillar is devastating for a family in either case.
"What about pet owners?" - Less important only because pets don't have the potential to become contributing members of society, or be a drain on society living off welfare, or end up pushed to the edge and carry out an active shooter event. That said, pet owners should have their pets registered so that should an accident happen, they can be cared for and find new homes.

I'd say the right place to draw the line is when it goes from endangering yourself to endangering yourself and others.. It can be annoying to have to wear a seatbelt, but if you're a parent and there are children depending on you and your refusal to wear one leaves your kid(s) without a parent, is that fair to them? Would it be fairer for the government to step in and force you to do something you don't like for the children's sake?

It's one thing to be free to make your own decisions, but if you can't be responsible enough to make the right decisions when other people are involved, then it falls to a higher power to make the right decision for you.

So, "this is my perspective and it's right because I say it's right, you ignorant racist!" huh?
I am neither moved nor impressed.

I've brought up points in this topic because I acknowledge that I am ignorant, and seek understanding. As it stands, for two different people to use the same word the same way and have such extremely different results and the only difference being race, it seems like we've forgotten what racism really is, and have been fooled into accepting a system of normalized racism as appropriate, and defending it. That I can say that a white person and a black person should be treated equally and be called a racist for it, I can't help but find that very disturbing, not because of the gravity of the insult cast upon me, but because of the desperate state of our society that would be necessary for this to happen in the first place.

Having a strong reaction happens sometimes. It's not the most common result of a vaccine, but it shouldn't be a major concern. That sick/miserable feeling is your body's immune system telling you to rest so it can use the energy to ramp up its defenses in reaction to the vaccine and preparation to deal with the real threat. It should pass in time.

There's a lesson to be learned alright. How to proceed should largely hinge on how this happened. It would seem there would have to be multiple failures for this to happen. One being using an unapproved source, another failing to identify questionable or unacceptable content either by way of poor judgement or by neglect, and finally by those who unquestioningly presented those assignments to their students.

Though I don't think anyone should lose their jobs over this (unless they have multiple similar infractions on record), there should definitely be reprimands, ideally in such a way that also teaches both their peers and their students about the importance of being vigilant and having the courage to speak out if they come across something that doesn't seem right.

I like when these events happen because its always great to see the ones who come out and defend the guy like well, black people say it so its fine.
I think a middle ground is more appropriate. Guy deserves some backlash for it, but what's happening to him is extreme. When people of one race can do/say something without consequence and someone of a different race does/says the same thing and it destroys their life, it feels like an instance of racial inequality, or even racial oppression.

It's a vulgar and poisonous word, and I agree with where he says "There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever." It's a word that should be allowed to fade into the annals of history, only brought up for historical reference if at all.

Words only have as much power as people give them, and I think people have given this word an extreme and racially inequal amount of power. If it is to remain in people's lexicons, it should be normalized so as to remove that power. If people are going to say it, it shouldn't matter what color the person's skin is, and they should face as much or as little backlash as anyone else using it the same way.

It strikes me as inexplicably strange that a society supposedly striving for racial equality would so staunchly defend and maintain this instance of inequality.

Vampire, because with all the marvelous things humans have invented over the ages, the one thing they haven't invented that they're in such dire need of... is a good predator. One with the pride and intellect needed to know that a predator's place is not to simply go after the first or the biggest prey they lay eyes on, but to strike with meaning, purpose, knowing that they exist to chip away at the pitiful and the wretched so as to aid their prey species as a whole by relieving it of the liabilities it has so much trouble letting go of on their own.

The above was a long time ago. The place has since closed down. A month or so ago, at a different Chinese buffet, something there messed with my stomach. I came close to vomiting, was convinced for a while that I was definitely going to hurl, even got to the pre-barf salivation, but it stayed down and before too much longer my condition cleared up. Not sure what did it, but some of the chicken was especially gristly.

Only times my guts have gone into full on purge from fast food has been a couple times over the course of half a dozen years when I let a Subway tuna sub go past two days before finishing it.

I dislike people in general, but there's no particular group that I'm consciously aware of being prejudiced against. Idiots and morons spring up in any given group, and its them more than any other that get under my skin.

There are certain demographics that seem to have a greater tendency to be loud obnoxious and stupid, or aloof condescending and overtly discourteous, but even as a misanthrope, my policy is to be respectful to any individual who hasn't proven themselves to the loathsome filth that I may immediately assume them to be.

After all, behavior tends to be at least somewhat contagious, so it's better to give the benefit of the doubt and infect respect than to immediately jump to maximum spite and spread that around.

Mm? If it's just drug use and not drug sales, then I have misunderstood and my previous posts can be disregarded. I agree that those abusing controlled substances should be considered victims who need help rather than criminals that need to be put through the wringer of our justice system.

I believe I heard what I was talking about suggested before, and while it has merits over things like trigger-happy raids on unsuspecting households, IMO the best approach to fighting drug rings is to identify and track perpetrators covertly if possible, so as to allow them to reveal their leaders and suppliers, and go after them, rather than pouncing on anyone and everyone who is even suspected of involvement the moment that suspicion arises.

Pretty rarely. My dreams, when I remember them, are usually similar to reality, but somewhat off somehow. Last dream I remembered was exceptionally strange. I was replacing my lower jaw with one that I had cultivated in the ground.

Last notable one before that, a good number of months ago, I was walking through my room when I had cut my foot, presumably on a box cutter, but I wasn't sure. A shallow but wide band of skin had been removed, but didn't draw blood expect for one tiny spot. Examining and cleaning the wound, there was no issue until I considered the possibility that it may have been glass that caused the injury, and that I should check for shards. Sure enough, going over the bleeding spot again yielded a small glass shard which came out without difficulty. The dream managed to blend seamlessly with waking memory, and at one point I decided to see how my foot wound was doing, only realizing when I found no injury that it had been a dream.

I bet I could splice together the newly damaged wire (in side fine, out side destroyed) with a recently obsolete phone charger (in side built into wall plug, out side fine, and compatible).

Hm? Uh-oh. I suppose I should have expected this, the phone wire doesn't have the signal wires. Ah, I suppose it'll still be fine, I'll just need a different one should I need an actual wired connection for signal.

Splice done. Shoddy, but works.

She looks like an inbred freak if you ask me, and it's pretty clear that she thinks like one too.

Never wet the bed past early childhood, and I'm unfamiliar with dreams about going to the bathroom. If going to the bathroom before going to sleep, not drinking much before bed, and maintaining good sleeping habits aren't helping you, then it might be a good idea to call a doctor, or at least consult the web (not GameFAQs) for similar issues and advice.

People were literally getting vaccinated while trump was still in office

Do trumpsters seriously think people cant remember what was going on just a few weeks ago?
That seems to be the Republican MO. Ignore the people who can think straight, and just sow discord with the people stupid enough to swallow the bilge.

Nothing really outside of video games. There were a couple FFVI tracks that I didn't have much appreciation for because the places where they played tended to drag on, but looking back on the music itself, The Magic House, while not the catchiest tune around, is interesting in how it progressively builds upon itself, and The Phantom Forest is a hauntingly beautiful piece. Gogo's theme, strangely enough, I could have swore I heard before somewhere else, long before I ever touched the game.
