I gave it my best effort at a ranking but this one was very tough, as evidenced by how much movement there was between my preliminary and "final" rankings. Overall though I really did enjoy this album despite not speaking any Portuguese. I have to wonder how differently this album hits if you understand the lyrics. For me, it was just letting it wash over me and enjoying the instrumentation.

My unintentional trend of finding the endings and beginnings of albums far more compelling than the middles continues.

I find myself feeling the same way many times, though maybe not quite with this week's album. In particular, I do love a great "closer". People always talk about great "openers" but "closers" are very underrated (sometimes literally in this series).

I had that game way back in the day. Even as a kid, it fucking sucked. I played it for many hours.

The pole vaulting was impossible. The pogo was next to impossible. The boot throw was a crap shoot. The pizza thing was fucking dumb. The gondola fight was the only decent one.

I don't think I've seen a more polarizing MCU project. For every review I watch/read that says ugh that singing planet was the worst thing the MCU was ever done and I wanted to actually kill myself to make it stop I will read a review that says the singing planet was one of the most fun things ever in the MCU!!! what a breath of fresh air and a highlight of the movie!!!!

If I'm remembering right, didn't Captain Marvel get review bombed because "Brie Larson"? I have to imagine the same type of shit would happen again somewhat.

So, thing I learned before the movie from the Alamo Drafthouse pre-movie stuff was that Brie Larson was a pop singer early in her career. Seemed like a rather bizarre thing to bring up until Singing Planet happened.

The Marvels was fun. Nothing amazing. Felt a bit rushed and like it didn't quite explain everything.

Kamala is definitely the best part in terms of characters. I agree with what someone alluded to earlier, that she could have been annoying but managed to be very endearing instead.

And now for some spoiler-y things:

• So, the family just ups and moves from Jersey City to Louisiana?
• The singing world!
• Seems like letting a bunch of tentacle cats loose in NYC is going to have to be revisited at some point.
• Where did the other bangle go, since Kamala only had one at the end? I also thought her powers came from the bangle but apparently I was wrong about that, as she was able to use her powers even after she lost the bangle during the final fight.
• It's funny, after the post about "big mid-credit spoilers", I was going to say something about "maybe they run into the Shi'ar Empire" since it's a space movie. But that would have been too obscure for most people to recognize Lilandra or someone like that. Turns out, was X-Men related! Apparently that was OG X-Men movie Beast, and someone called Binary (unknown to my limited comic knowledge).

Signing on to this. Didn't get a first listen until yesterday and at over an hour and 21 songs...yeah...the thought crossed my mind that I might skip doing a ranking.

Those last 3 boss fights were very challenging. A lot of deaths. I really had to use all my skills and abilities instead of just button mashing through.

That's exactly where it is (in Joffre Street). And apparently completing the training for a weapon unlocks the last tier of abilities to buy.

The area I just finished was not a favorite of mine. It ends with an Ori-like escape sequence which took me about a dozen attempts to complete because of lots of insta-death.

- Strong performance from Iman Villani.

- Very brisk pacing. Some people think it is too short and makes the story seem like a mess because of the breakneck pace. Others really like that it never drags and is only 94 minutes.

- Villain is underutilized and boring except for a few good action scenes.

- One of the funniest MCU movies in a long time.

- Whether you like it or not, it is a huge change in the metanarrative. Some people liked the huge change and finally feeling like the metanarrative and overarching story in phase 5 is moving forward. Others felt like it made the movie seem like a major midseason episode of a TV show that is about hooking you for the back half of the season.

- Creative fight choreography. Visuals are very good in some areas and so-so in others.

Sounds like a Marvel movie!

That 94 minute run time is concerning though considering almost all are closer to 2 hours (or more...) at this point. And I just checked, and yep, it would be the shortest by nearly 20 minutes. Probably speaks to the production and post-production difficulties they supposedly had on this.

Multiverse as a concept is cool but, yeah, it gets old because it basically amounts to "you can do anything, no rules, no consequences"

At about 70% now. I was doing some mop up last night of some areas I missed now that I seemingly have all the powers and weapons. I figure I've got maybe 2-3 more new areas to go.

The underwater sections really, really suck. The controls are awful and everything feels like an absolute chore. ...With that said, it's possible I'm just "missing something" because I only just realized the red/orange barriers can be destroyed by the fist with one of the SP powers.

Looks like it was a great night for Democrats. Thank god for that!

I doubt my votes for Virginia Senate and House of Delegates will make a big impact in these deep red districts, but you never know. Turnout appeared to be pretty strong across the board here, and the weather really encouraged this.

I'm pretty anxious about what will happen if the Democrats don't at least keep the Senate here. Youngkin is basically DeSantis but in the phase of pretending he isn't.

Deep blue district here, so vote also doesn't have a big impact.

Let's hope the more purple areas got the right votes.

We've reached the point where it's feels more about picking which team is going to lose versus picking a team to win.

There's about a half dozen teams I wouldn't pick, which in theory makes it easier. The safest pick this week is easily Dallas, because picking against the Giants every single week is likely to bring major success. But they're also looking to be a good pick for quite a few weeks coming up though, so it's just a matter of if you want to burn them now.

Metroidvania's have a naturally compulsive pull for me. I think I'm around 50% at this point based on the title screen, which seems low, considering I've had the (seemingly) final weapon for an hour or two now.

The final weapon unlocks some very Ori-esque movement abilities. Wasn't enjoying it in combat though, other than liking its AoE hold x ability. To me, the 2nd weapon just seems miles away the best to use for combat, as it absolutely shreds through the lifebars of bosses.

An objectively good album (other than I'm in Touch With Your World) but one that I failed to really connect with. Not exactly sure why. Maybe I found the lyrics to be a bit repetitive? Maybe I just wasn't "feeling it" for doing music analysis this week. Whatever the case, it was still nice to check off another rock classic.

I've been playing F.I.ST., and it seems fine, but I really wish that they gave you a block or dodge (dash is not a substitute) move. Combat seems a little off otherwise, like the player abilities and enemy abilities/tendencies don't seem to form a cohesive combat structure/flow without some gaming/genre staples being included.

Yeah, a block would be nice. Slight spoiler here, but you CAN find a parry ability. I really suck at parries though and can never quite get the timing down. Every once in a while I bungle into it and Im always surprised.

You eventually get to a point where you can do combat training, and let me tell you, it really reveals my annoyance with combat timing. I can do basic 3-4 hit combos but the 7-8 step things they ask of you in the training are mostly beyond me. The animation priority and movement timing was just not syncing up with my fingers and brain.
