Feels like at least one of the teams taken so far for this week is going to backfire. Hopefully it's not my choice.

I started on F.I.S.T. Having fun so far, though it's hard for me not to have fun with a Metroidvania.

Movement is good between the dash, wall jump, and double jump. Attacks feel a bit slow/heavy/weighty, which makes a certain amount of sense, though it's a bit off putting when not battling one on one. My issue there is that, despite what I just said, some I feel like I'm being attacked mid combo, even though I'm a literal whirlwind.

The game also has some technical issues, the most most obvious being the major amounts of texture pop in. Par for the course for an Unreal Engine game, and it's mostly an annoyance more than anything else.

Regarding the elections, I don't know about other states but Virginia has all their State Legislature / General Assembly seats up for vote this year. While Virginia has trended blue lately it's still pretty purple overall. And with a R governor there's a chance a closely split State Senate and House could turn fully red. This is a vote for the only one we haven't heard from before. I really enjoyed the last Avenged Sevenfold but do we need another by them? I didn't really enjoy the System of a Down so I'm not hot on listening to a Serj album, though recognizing he's got a very iconic voice.

If you were to ask me before that if I knew any The Cars songs, my answer would have been "probably but I couldn't tell you it was them".

The first 3 songs here everyone has heard a million times before but, if you're like me, had no idea of the group responsible. Then there's 6 more songs and I honestly have no idea if they're good or not because that opening third mostly overwhelmed my ability to think about the rest.

And since I like to say stupid things in these topics... The harmonizing by The Cars reminded me of Queen. Just that part though. Obviously there's no Freddie Mercury here or any of the playfulness of stuff like Fat Bottom Girls or Bicycle Race.

It wont. The Beastcast was great because it was the East Coast crew.

It frustrates me because I don't know why people nominate things and then don't explain their choices. Do they think everyone's just heard of all these groups? They're not exactly Metallica and Coldplay. And no, I'm not going to "look it up". If you can't be bothered, why the fuck should I.

I'm still a little surprised that I enjoy this album as much as I do, as it feels a little bit out of my normal wheelhouse. And I say that dating back to originally listening to this album in the wake of it winning a Grammy back over a decade ago. This isn't an "artsy" album per se, but it probably has "more to say" than most other albums I liked back then? I don't know. That still doesn't feel quite right. Maybe it's just that there's almost nothing here I'd consider a "radio hit" and yet this is a very strong album with lots of fun hooks.

Ultimately, for me this is an album that's more than the sum of its parts.I found it difficult to do the ranking and feel like this could have fluctuated pretty wildly if I was doing it at a different time. In very quickly scrolling past the rankings submitted so far, I suspect this one is going to be all over the place with lots of songs in someone's top 5 and someone else's bottom 5.

Thinking about the album as a whole, it feels like the pillars are The Suburbs, Suburban War (espeically with some of the lyrics brought back from that initial track), and Sprawl II. Those are the 3 songs that encapsulate the tone, vibe, and message of the album.

The Suburbs (Continued): A short, poignant outro. I'm sure there's an argument that the song is too short for me to be giving it such a high placement--I'm honestly considering moving it up to first--but I'm not really bothered by short tracks. It comes in, hits the emotional beats it wants to, and fades away. A perfect end to the album.

I agree that it's a great little closing coda. One of the big reasons the bonus tracks just don't work for me. You hear this track's echos back to the opener and it really closes the book and leaves you feeling satisfied.

Just one extra comment on my bottom song, We Used to Wait. This is easily the most forgettable track here. I simply did not remember this track at all when coming back to this album. And even after 3 additional listens, it's made no lasting marks on me.

After one about "handiwork", I was trying to figure out an amusing topic title with "Johnson" in it but couldn't figure a good enough one out.

I lose a big chunk of Nov (and Dec...) to family stuff, so I don't want to nominate a bunch of stuff that gets picked and I don't have time to play. Especially taking into account the regular Club and playing my personal backlog games.

I would nominate SotN, but I know F.I.S.T. is a Metroidvania as well and that's one I haven't played, so I'm happy for that to get selected.

The Games of the Month of the Year experiment sadly didn't work out unless there's going to be a rush toward the end. I was considering doing one next year as an annual thing, but I'm scrapping that.

I am intending on bringing back the birthday two-game voting poll, and maybe even in the exact same format. My birthday is in January, so I will be deciding if I would to do that in the next few weeks.

That particular game has probably been done already, but in general I like the idea since it allows for longer games to not have such a strict timer.

That's exactly it. I'd played through the trilogy just a few years before and I had no desire to do so again.

I was just thinking about this the other day and I was trying to figure out what other trilogies or series would work given a longer time frame. I thought about The Witcher games...but I've heard the first is not great and they're doing that remake, so maybe better to wait. Personally, I was thinking the Souls games since I have continually put them off.

But maybe the idea just doesn't work because people forget as they aren't in the topic title.

I do think sometimes having more time if a longer game is chosen would help, as it's hard to fit all the games in, especially when holidays eat your available game time. It's why I tend to nominate smaller games, as a 30+ hour game might be all the time someone has for a month.
