Statement from judge: Let me just say to the media, again, I'm just doing my job. I know you all want to talk to me. My secretary has informed me that I have a growing stack of requests from print media, from television, from magazines from around the world, literally. This story is not about me. It never was about me. I hope I've opened some doors but, you see, I'm a little stupid because I thought everybody did what I did, and if they didn't, maybe they ought to.

But I do this and have been doing it. And if you don't believe me, the keeper of my words is right by my side. And lawyers who are hearing this are shaking their heads, saying, Yup, I've waited too long, as she lets everybody talk. Sometimes people get upset. I don't care. I get paid the same. So I ask for the media who want to talk with me, I'm not going to be making any statements. I know that my office and I may have even, I don't know; it's been a long couple of weeks conveyed that after this is over. . . .

It's just not my story. After the appellate period runs, with victims by my side to tell their stories, I might answer some more questions than what I've said on the record. I don't know what more I could possibly say. But I'm not going to talk with any media person until after the appeal period, and even then, if you talk to me about this case, I will have a survivor by my side because it is their story.

So I wanted everybody to hear that from me. I respect all of the media outlets. You have done just a fabulous job here. There hasn't been any coalition more upset by this, and I do believe in the First Amendment, so I thank you all for being here because it's an important story for the survivors.

As to today, I know there are a lot of survivors, family members, husbands, friends a lot of people in the courtroom. You have voices. I'm going to leave the courtroom. Defendant will leave the courtroom. The attorneys may stay. The victims, family members, survivors, you may stay in the courtroom and talk with media. You can have your own press conference right here. Spur of the moment sometimes works out the best, doesn't it?

Lame. If the reason I didn't get it was something legit like "I don't pay for PSN+" or "I've only had my PS4 for a few months and not the whole year" then I would understand. But simply not being lucky enough to be chosen by an RNG? That's just lame.

SACRAMENTO With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood. CBS Sacramento reports they don't want to leave the United States, just California.

"Well, it's been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we're rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California," said founder Robert Paul Preston.

The state of New California would incorporate most of the state's rural counties, leaving the urban coastal counties to the current state of California.

"There's something wrong when you have a rural county such as this one, and you go down to Orange County which is mostly urban, and it has the same set of problems, and it happens because of how the state is being governed and taxed," Preston said.

But unlike other separation movements in the past, the state of New California wants to do things by the book, citing Article 4, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution and working with the state legislature to get it done, similar to the way West Virginia was formed.

"Yes. We have to demonstrate that we can govern ourselves before we are allowed to govern," said founder Tom Reed.

And despite obstacles, doubters, and obvious long odds, the group stands united in their statehood dream.

The group is organized with committees and a council of county representatives, but say it will take 10 to 18 months before they are ready to fully engage with the state legislature.

This is not the first effort to split up California. In 2014, Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper submitted signatures to put a measure that would split California in six separate states.

https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/facebook-says-big-changes-are-coming-your-news-feed-n837026

SAN FRANCISCO When Facebook's two billion users scroll through their News Feeds in the coming weeks, they can expect to see more content from their friends and family, and less from businesses, brands and media, the company announced Thursday.

The ultimate goal, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post, is to make people feel more positive about the time they spend on social media. The content Facebook shows "should encourage meaningful interactions between people,"he said.

"The research shows that when we use social media to connect with people we care about, it can be good for our well-being," Zuckerberg wrote. "We can feel more connected and less lonely, and that correlates with long term measures of happiness and health. On the other hand, passively reading articles or watching videos even if they're entertaining or informative may not be as good."

The announcement comes one week after Zuckerberg, who famously declares a News Year's resolution on Facebook each year, announced his goal this year will be to "fix" Facebook. This includes dealing with abuse on the platform, such as Russian meddling in elections and ensuring users feel like logging onto Facebook is "time well spent."

Facebook has denied it is a media company, but in recent years, brands, media companies and other content creators have turned to Facebook for its unparalleled reach and engagement. It's a point Zuckerberg acknowledged in his post, writing that "video and other public content have exploded on Facebook in the past couple of years."

"Since there's more public content than posts from your friends and family, the balance of what's in News Feed has shifted away from the most important thing Facebook can do help us connect with each other," Zuckerberg said.

The News Feed shake-up will also usher in a shift in thinking for Facebook's product teams. They were previously given the mandate to help users find relevant content. Now, Zuckerberg said, they'll be tasked with helping deliver more meaningful social interactions for Facebook users.

Facebook's algorithm think of that as a complex digital recipe for deciding what shows in each person's News Feed will now prioritize posts from friends and family that "spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people."

What's unclear is whether the changes could perpetuate an echo chamber effect, assuming users are more likely to interact with posts that reinforce their beliefs.

The changes are also a blow to brands and media companies that publish on Facebook. Adam Mosseri, Facebook's head of News Feed, said these public pages can expect to see their reach, video watch times and referral traffic decrease.

"Pages making posts that people generally dont react to or comment on could see the biggest decreases in distribution. Pages whose posts prompt conversations between friends will see less of an effect," he wrote in a blog post.

With people no longer having as much content to passively consume in their News Feeds, Zuckerberg said he expects some measures of user engagement will decrease. That's news shareholders may not want to hear, but Zuckerberg said he believes the changes will be mutually beneficial in the long run for Facebook's two billion users and its bottom line.

"By focusing on bringing people closer together -- whether it's with family and friends, or around important moments in the world -- we can help make sure that Facebook is time well spent," he said.

Harvey Weinstein was on the receiving end of 2 backhanded slaps to the face ... that's what the newly-obtained video shows.

TMZ broke the story ... Weinstein was dining Tuesday night at Elements restaurant in Scottsdale when a guy named Steve approached him and asked for a photo. Steve tells TMZ Weinstein was belligerent and said no, while a restaurant manager says Weinstein was "sweet" and politely declined.

The video was shot as Steve and Weinstein were both leaving the restaurant. Although the restaurant manager says Steve's hands never landed on Weinstein's face, you clearly see and hear Steve make contact twice, as he calls Weinstein "a piece of s***."

As we reported, Weinstein declined to call police and left the restaurant.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/01/09/trump-insists-would-defeat-oprah-but-doesnt-think-will-run.html

President Trump said Tuesday he doesnt think television host Oprah Winfrey will actually run against him for president in 2020 but he insists he would defeat her if she did.

Yeah, Ill beat Oprah, the president told reporters at the White House. Oprah would be a lot fun.

Trump, speaking after meeting with senators, said he knows Winfrey very well and did one of her last shows.

I like Oprah, Trump said. I dont think shes going to run.

Trumps comments follow excitement from some Democrats and members of the media in recent days about the prospect of Winfrey challenging Trump after a much-touted speech during the Golden Globes.

Winfrey referenced the #MeToo movement and spoke out against sexual harassers during Sundays ceremony, saying Their time is up!"

Winfrey has not commented on the recent encouragement to run, but has denied harboring presidential ambitions in the past.

Here "coming to your side" means "Trying to keep up the image of being the woke one in the White House". Jared and Ivanka constantly were leaking things throughout the last year trying to paint themselves in a good light for their New York socialite community.

Why is it a surprise that people see this as a self-serving gesture rather than actual support?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/trump-admin-ends-protected-status-200-000-salvadorans-u-s-article-1.3744510

The Trump administration will not extend the Temporary Protected Status program, which has allowed nearly 200,000 Salvadorans to stay in the U.S. legally, according to a report Monday.

The Department of Homeland Security has decided to not renew the program, which provides humanitarian relief for foreigners whose countries are hit with natural disasters or serious conflict.

Last year, the administration ended those protections for citizens of Haiti and Nicaragua.

Salvadorans, whose country was struck by a pair of major earthquakes, will have until September 2019 to leave or obtain other legal options to stay in the United States, according to the Washington Post.

Immigration advocates say that ending the protections will cause major issues for El Salvador, a country of 6.2 million people. The economy is in part based on people working in the United States and other countries sending money back to family and loved ones.

In September 2016, the Obama administration extended protections for 18 months, saying El Salvador suffered lingering harm from the 2001 earthquakes that killed more than 1,000 people and would be unable to absorb such a large wave of people returning.
