Matt Damon's father died recently after a long battle with cancer.

Kent Damon, 74, died Dec. 14 in Massachusetts of complications from multiple myeloma, a rare blood disease, Damons publicist Jennifer Allen said on Saturday.

Kent Damon was diagnosed in 2010, but his condition had increasingly been getting worse recently.

His A-list son has worked to raise awareness and money for cancer research and treatment since his father was diagnosed. The "Good Will Hunting" and "Jason Bourne" star hosted private fundraisers in Los Angeles and attended benefits for the Massachusetts General Hospital's Cancer Center in Boston.

http://comicbook.com/movies/2017/12/23/stephen-king-the-dark-tower-movie-failed/

Author Stephen King, the mind behind The Dark Tower series of novels, says the recent big screen adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey failed because it was a PG-13 tentpole.

"I liked everybody involved with that movie and I liked some of the casting choices for it," King told EW. "I liked [Media Rights Capital producer] Modi Wiczyk, the producer, the director, everybody. So you know Im always careful what I say about it."

"But I will say this, okay," King continued, "The real problem, as far as Im concerned is, they went in to this movie, and I think this was a studio edict pretty much: this is going to be a PG-13 movie. Its going to be a tentpole movie. We want to make sure that we get people in there from the ages of, lets say, 12 right on up to whatever the target age is. Lets say 12 to 35. Thats what we want."

"So it has to be PG-13, and when they did that I think that they lost a lot of the toughness of it and it became something where people went to it and said, 'Well yeah, but its really not anything that we havent seen before,'" King explained.

King said his attempts to affect the creative course of the movie went ignored.

"There was a decision made, too, to start it pretty much in the middle, and when they actually made the movie I had doubts about it from the beginning, and expressed them, and didnt really get too far," King said.

"Sometimes when people have made up their mind, the creative team thats actually going to go and shoot the movie, its a little bit like hitting your fist against hard rubber, you know? It doesnt really hurt, but you dont get anywhere. It just sort of bounces back. And I thought to myself, 'Well, people are going to be really puzzled by this,' and they were. So there was some of that problem, too."

The Sony release, from A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel, grossed just $111 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. The Dark Tower pulled a 16% approval rating from critics and a 47% approval rating from audiences.

Former The Walking Dead showrunner Glenn Mazzara was tapped in August to helm a proposed Dark Tower television series, which will likely not involve Elba as Gunslinger Roland Deschain.

"That might happen," King says of the series, which Mazzara claimed would explore Roland's origins and adapt The Gunslinger, Wizard & Glass, and The Wind Through the Keyhole. "It might happen."

Another Stephen King adaptation, It, was released by Warner Bros. in September and became the highest-grossing horror movie of all time.

Jordan Feldstein -- the longtime manager of Maroon 5 and the brother of actor Jonah Hill -- has died.

We have confirmed the manager passed away last night. The coroner is investigating and there are no signs of trauma or foul play.

The Feldstein family have released a statement saying that last night Jordan called 911 for shortness of breath, when paramedics arrived it was determined he went into full cardiac arrest and passed away shortly thereafter.

Jordan has two children and was once married to the daughter of Clint Eastwood.

Jordan was 40.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mark-hamill-last-jedi-luke-skywalker_us_5a3cf644e4b025f99e16864d

The actor Mark Hamill just lasered in on why he disliked how director Rian Johnson had him play Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Hes not my Luke Skywalker, Hamill, who originated the part in the iconic space opera four decades ago, proclaimed of his role in the new movie.

MILD SPOILER ALERT:

The Last Jedi shows the character in hiding, and Hamill appeared to take issue with that.

I said to Rian, I said Jedis dont give up. I mean, even if he had a problem, he would maybe take a year to try and regroup, but if he made a mistake he would try and right that wrong, so right there, we had a fundamental difference, but, its not my story anymore, Hamill, 66, said in an interview posted to YouTube on Wednesday. Its somebody elses story, and Rian needed me to be a certain way to make the ending effective.

Hamill added: I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe hes Jake Skywalker, hes not my Luke Skywalker.

The movie has been a box-office success, and HuffPost critic Matthew Jacobs called it splendid.

Still, Hamills comments appear to confirm that so-called creative differences were shaking up the galaxy far, far away long before the films release.

I still havent accepted it completely, but its only a movie, Hamill said. I hope people like it. I hope they dont get upset.

Hamill may have to prepare to defend himself.

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/12/22/petition-for-matt-damons-removal-from-oceans-8-gains-traction.html

Matt Damons comments on sexual harassment in Hollywood has prompted a petition for his cameo to be removed from the mostly female cast of Oceans 8.

A recent tally of the online petition has over 18,000 signatures calling for his removal.

The reboot, starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and other notable female actresses, was supposed to be an empowering film for women, the petition says, while alleging that Damon not only ignored but enabled his friend Harvey Weinsteins inappropriate behavior.

It cited that Damon allegedly tried to squash a New York Times report in 2004 that detailed instances where the now fallen Hollywood mogul exploited his status as a studio executive to harass and assault women, the Agence France-Presse reported.

Damon denied trying to kill the story and claimed he did not know of the allegations against Weinstein, who helped catapult his career, the report said.

The actor also came under fire last week, for telling ABC News that there was a "spectrum of behavior" and a "difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?"

"Damons inclusion (in the movie) would trivialize the serious nature of the charges against sexual abusers like Weinstein a show of massive disrespect for the brave women speaking out," the petition read.

The petition calls on "Oceans 8" producers George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh to leave Damons cameo on the cutting room floor."

Damon's long-time friend, Ben Affleck, who he shared an Oscar with for best screenplay in 1997 for "Good Will Hunting" and Affleck's actor brother Casey, have also been accused publicly in recent months of sexual misconduct, the AFP reported.

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/the-office-revival-nbc-1202644522/

NBC is in early talks to revive The Office, sources tell Variety.

Series star Steve Carell would not be involved in this new installment, which would continue the misadventures of the officemates at the Dunder-Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment. TVLine first reported news of a possible revival.

Executive produced by Greg Daniels, the original NBC series The Office, based on the British show of the same name, ran from 2005 to 2013. It starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Craig Robinson, Mindy Kaling, and B.J. Novak among others. It received a total of 42 Emmy nominations during its run, winning five.

Speaking on Varietys Remote Controlled podcast in November, Fischer had expressed doubt that a new installment of the show would ever take place.

I dont think itll ever happen, she said. I would do it if there was some circumstance where everybody got back together, and could be brought back together in some amazing way, I would say yes. But Im not sure its realistic. The characters, they had arcs. They had growth. Jim and Pam left Dunder-Mifflin. Michael left Dunder-Mifflin. And it would be hard to manufacture why all the people were back working together. And Im not sure the show works if were all in different locations. I immediately start thinking, how did Jim and Pam get back from Austin? And Michaels living with Holly now. It would almost have to be a scenario where its the lost tapes of The Office, where you somehow go back in time and theres all of these lost stories where we weirdly look 5 years older.

But NBC has reason to be in the revival business after successfully relaunching Will & Grace this fall. The new season of that show was one of the networks highest-rated shows of the season thus far and was renewed for another season before the first had even aired.

TopicMatt Damon receives intense backlash for sexual misconduct comments
Scorsese2002
12/16/17 10:26:58 AM

http://www.ibtimes.com/matt-damons-receives-intense-backlash-sexual-misconduct-comments-2629215

Matt Damon is in hot water due to his controversial comments about sexual misconduct.

In a preview clip for ABC's "Popcorn with Peter Travers," Damon shared his thoughts about sexual misconduct as more and more celebrities come forward to share their stories. Unfortunately, the "Martian" actor's words seemed to lack sensitivity regarding the issue.

"I think we're in this watershed moment. I think it's great. I think it's wonderful that women are feeling empowered to tell their storiesand it's totally necessary," Damon said (via E! News). "I do believe there's a spectrum of behavior There's a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right? Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn't be conflated."

Minnie Driver did not agree with the "Jason Bourne" star's statement and expressed her thoughts on social media. "God God, SERIOUSLY?" she wrote on Twitter, along with a link to an article about Damon's statement.

"There are so many men I love who do NOT frame the differentiation between sexual misconduct assault and rape as an excuse or worse- our problem. Such bollocks.." Driver wrote in another tweet.

Damon and Driver co-starred in "Good Will Hunting" in 1997. The two dated, but when Damon appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1998, he denied that he had a girlfriend, which did not sit well with Driver.

"It's unfortunate that Matt went on 'Oprah'," Driver told Los Angeles Times. "It seemed like a good forum for him to announce to the world that we were no longer together, which I found fantastically inappropriate."

Driver is not alone in her objections to Damon's statement. Another user took to Twitter and wrote: "in 2018, Matt Damon should be cancelled."

Damon also shared his thoughts about Louis C.K., who recently apologized for his sexual misconduct. The "Bourne Identity" star admitted that he doesn't know all the details regarding the comedian's actions, but he thinks that C.K. deserves another chance.

"When he came out and said, 'I did this; I did these things; these women are all telling the truth,' I just remember thinking, 'Well, that's the sign of somebody who...well, we can work with that,'" Damon said (via E! News).

"The clearer signal to men and to younger people is [to] deny it, because if you take responsibility for what you did, your life's going to get ruined. I mean, look, as I saidall of that behavior needs to be confronted, but there is a continuum. And on this end of the continuum where you have rape and child molestation or whatever, you know, that's prison. Right? That's what needs to happen. OK?" he added.

In addition, Damon previously denied knowing about Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment and assault. He also stressed that while he did work with the film mogul in several movie projects, he kept his distance from him.

"When you hear 'Harvey this, Harvey that'I mean, look at the guy! Of course he's a womanizer. I don't hang out with him," Damon said.

http://www.tmz.com/2017/12/16/tupac-murder-weapon-detective-timothy-brennan-las-vegas-cops/

The handgun cops say was used to kill Tupac Shakur -- which mysteriously disappeared 11 years ago -- should be in the hands of the L.A. Sheriff's Dept. ... according to the detective who was on the case.

TMZ broke the story -- the .40 caliber Glock was found in a Compton backyard in 1998, and according to docs, LASD Detective Timothy Brennan was the guy who ordered the ballistic testing which revealed it was used in Tupac's murder.

Brennan, who's now retired, tells TMZ ... there should be NO mystery about where the gun is now ... IF everyone followed protocol. As Brennan recalls ... he gave the gun to ATF agents who conducted the testing. Once it came up a match, in a federal law enforcement database, he says ATF sent it to Las Vegas cops.

Now here's the rub. Brennan says law enforcement in Vegas didn't believe it was a match. He says he was never told why they reached that conclusion, but they rejected the weapon. Brennan says what should have happened next is the ATF to send it back to L.A.

As we reported ... the document dug up by producers of A&E's "Who Killed Tupac?" says a federal prosecutor recommended the gun NOT be turned over to Vegas -- but Brennan insists it was.

He thinks the handgun is still in the custody of L.A. authorities, but if it's not ... someone may be pulling something shady.

http://www.tmz.com/2017/12/15/tupac-murder-weapon-orlando-anderson-death/

The gun that killed Tupac Shakur turned up in Compton just ONE day after one of Tupac's biggest street rivals was killed in gang violence.

It sounds like the most bizarre coincidence, but yes ... Orlando Anderson -- a known member of the Southside Crips -- was killed in a gang shootout, in Compton, on May 29, 1998. As TMZ first reported ... the .40 caliber Glock used to shoot and kill Tupac was found May 30.

Now here's what makes this so remarkable. Anderson is the man Tupac and co. famously beat down in the MGM Grand just a few hours before Pac was killed in Las Vegas. One longstanding theory is Anderson and other Crips murdered him in revenge.

Anderson was even named a suspect in Tupac's death, though he was never charged.

As we told you, the Tupac murder weapon was found in a Compton backyard where a Crip's girlfriend lived. According to an LAPD document, that gang member was in Las Vegas with Anderson the night Tupac was killed.

Connecting the dots: Tupac beats up Anderson ... Tupac is killed ... Anderson is killed ... Tupac murder weapon pops up in a yard connected to Anderson's friend.

All that being said -- Vegas cops can't recall ever taking custody of the handgun and, as we know, no one's ever been charged in Tupac's death.

http://www.tmz.com/2017/12/15/tupac-murder-weapon-found/

The handgun used to shoot and kill Tupac Shakur turned up in a Compton backyard -- 19 years ago -- but, mysteriously, no one in law enforcement seems to know where it is today.

That bombshell information comes from a police document dug up by producers of the A&E docu-series, "Who Killed Tupac?" According to the document, here's how it unfolded.

A .40 caliber Glock was found by a citizen in his backyard in 1998 ... which he reported to police. Compton PD records show it was booked as found property on May 30, 1998.

In 2000, L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. took over law enforcement of Compton, and 3,800 confiscated firearms -- including that Glock -- were transferred to the LASD.

Fast forward to 2006, when Deputy T. Brennan -- who'd been working the Notorious B.I.G. murder -- was sifting through records. According to the doc, he recognized the address where the gun was found as the home of the girlfriend of a prominent Crip member ... known to have beef with Pac.

The deputy immediately ordered ballistic testing, and bam -- the results were a match for the firearm used to kill Tupac.

You'd think the weapon would be immediately sent to Vegas, where Pac's murder was still unsolved. Instead, a federal prosecutor assigned to the case cited concerns the discovery might alert potential conspirators -- and recommended the gun NOT be turned over to LVPD.

It's not spelled out in the document, but it seems the concern might have been about renewed gang violence if it came out a Crip was tied to Tupac's murder.

Tupac's brother was floored by the information when he met with Benjamin Crump, the civil rights attorney producing the A&E series.

A&E says it contacted LVPD, and some officers said the gun definitely never got to them, while others said they were unsure. Bottom line ... if anyone knows where it is now, they're not copping to it.

The final episode of "Who Killed Tupac?" airs Tuesday night.

Reminds me around the same time a buddy and me went up to our old elementary school to play basketball, it was close to school getting out but after about 5-10 mins of playing somebody came out and said we had to get off the grounds or cops would be called.

Another time, a year later, we went back there to walk around inside and see our old teachers, after school hours, and we were told to leave by the same principal we had when we were kids(or the cops would be called again)

yeah but how many shotgun teenage pregnancy weddings survive? Mark was a dick anyways, they were always fighting and he didn't deserve her. it would be weird if he was back.

Definitely very sad that his actor died though. Addiction claims another victim.

They'll either make Darlene a lesbian or a widow with Mark dying some comedic death that they play off of.

In a 2009 blog post, Barr revealed where all the Roseanne characters might be 20 years later and, yes, it addresses the Dan issue:

D.J. gets published, Mark dies in Iraq, David leaves Darlene for a woman half his age, Darlene meets a woman and they have a test tube baby, Becky works at Walmart, Roseanne and Jackie open the first medical marijuana dispensary in Lanford, Illinois, and pay off the mortgage before the house is foreclosed on, Arnie becomes the best friend of the Governor of Illinois, Mom sells a painting for ten grand, Nancy and Arnie remarry, Jerry and the grandsons form a band like the Jonas Brothers, Dan shows up alive after faking his death, Leon has a sex change op, [and] Bonnie gets busted for selling crack.

Didn't one of the guys die in real life or am I mistaken?

Mark did from OD'ing, I think.

Mark was one of the best/funniest characters on the show IMO, especially the later seasons.

ABCs improbable full-cast revival of Roseanne is real, and now it has a premiere date.

Fans of the show can find out just how the heck Dan Connors is still alive when the nine-episode 10th season debuts with a special hour-long episode on Tuesday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m.

The full cast from the shows original run is returning for the new go-round, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, and both Beckys Lecy Goranson, who originated the character and will play her in the revival, and Sarah Chalke, who will play a new character.

Johnny Galecki, who currently stars in CBS hit The Big Bang Theory, is also returning for a single episode.

Goodmans inclusion is an interesting development since the series concluded with the character of Roseanne revealing that the final-season plot in which Goodmans character had survived a heart attack and the family won the lottery was all a dream.

In the reality of the show, Dan did not survive the heart attack. Roseanne Barr herself had an idea about how he returns.

The show also stars Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jayden Rey.

The original Roseanne aired nine seasons from 1988-1997 on ABC and won 17 Emmys. The series followed the blue collar Conner family, trying to make ends meet in Lanford, Illinois.
