TopicJames Gandolfini once threatened to 'beat the fuck' out of Harvey Weinstein

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/james-gandolfini-threatened-beat-f-harvey-weinstein-1299057

James Gandolfini once became so fed up with Harvey Weinstein, the late actor was ready to assault the disgraced movie mogul.

Sopranos stars Steve Schirripa and Michael Imperioli were guests on the Joe Rogan Experience this week where they reminisced about their time with Gandolfini on the iconic HBO series and afterward. Gandolfini died in 2013 at the age of 51. Imperioli and Schirripa host their own podcast called Talking Sopranos.

Schirripa, who played Bobby Baccalieri, recalled one time when Gandolfini was ready to beat up Weinstein. Schirripa explained to Rogan that his friend and fellow gangster actor refused to appear on late-night talk shows because he believed he wasn't "interesting." He only ever did a sit-down interview on 60 Minutes.

Along with the HBO series, Gandolfini appeared in a number of films, one of which was the 2012 Brad Pitt starrer Killing Them Softly, which was distributed by The Weinstein Company.

While hanging out in his trailer one day with some of the Sopranos gang, Schirripa recalled Weinstein bugging Gandolfini about appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman to promote the film.

"He said, 'Harvey Weinstein keeps calling, he wants me to do Letterman and I said no,'" Schirripa said. "And he got fucking nasty with Jim. And Jim said, 'I will beat the fuck out of Harvey Weinstein! He fucking calls me again, I will beat the fuck out of him! For the money he paid me, I'm not fucking doing it!' Swear to God. And this is before all the Harvey Weinstein shit when he was still king shit," Schirripa said.

https://www.tmz.com/2020/06/13/snls-jay-pharoah-lapd-kneel-neck/

Former "SNL" cast member Jay Pharoah was jogging down a San Fernando Valley street, when multiple LAPD cops pulled their guns on him, ordered him spreadeagled on the ground and one officer then put his knee on Jay's neck ... Jay says all because he matched a vague description of a black suspect wearing gray.

Jay posted the video Friday night and said the incident went down approximately one week before Ahmaud Arbery's murder. He says he was getting exercise, wearing noise-canceling headphones, when he saw the cops approach. He thought whoever they were after was in big trouble ... and then it dawned on him -- they were after him.

The cops told Jay he fit the description of a suspect -- black male wearing gray sweatpants and a gray shirt.

You see the security footage in Jay's video, and it matches his narration. You see a cop approach Jay from behind, with gun pointed. Another officer arrives with his gun in the air, and a patrol car rolls up and one of the 2 cops exits with his gun drawn.

Jay was cuffed, and with a knee to the neck, he urgently tried explaining he was not the guy they were looking for. He told the cops to look him up on Google, adding, "You will see that you made a big mistake." He says the cops released him "a minute later."

Jay says he's gone public with his story because he could have been Ahmaud Arbery or George Floyd, and "I'm still here to tell my story."

Jay ended by saying his parents tried to shield him from racism, but now he says as black men, "we have the knowledge and we have the power to overthrow," adding, "I'm Jay Pharoah, and I'm a black man in America and my life matters. Black lives always matter."

The LAPD tells TMZ they've seen the video and are investigating.

https://people.com/food/chuck-e-cheese-approaches-bankruptcy-possibly-close-all-stores/

After months of keeping their doors shut amid the coronavirus pandemic, popular kid's restaurant Chuck E. Cheese may not ever reopen.

The brand behind the food-and-games establishment, CEC Entertainment, is nearly $1 billion in debt and is trying to approach lenders for a $200 million loan to keep the business afloat, according to the Wall Steet Journal.

On Friday, the brand announced it would be offering its top executives retention bonuses with the hopes that they would stay on in trying times.

CEC said it would pay nearly $3 million total to three executives, including $1.3 million to CEO David McKillips, the Securities and Exchange Commission filing showed.

The Texas-based restaurant currently operates 610 locations in 47 states but had to close its stores when the pandemic struck, making it extremely difficult for the company to raise capital.

In April, the brand said they were considering refinancing, bankruptcy and restructuring after the pandemic began to cause strain on the restaurant industry, the WSJ reported.

According to The Takeout, some 17,000 workers were laid off in March.

In an attempt to make money during the pandemic, the store masqueraded as Pasqually's Pizza and Wings on delivery apps, a reference to one of Chuck E. Cheese's bandmates.

Employees who were kept on board helped to operate Pasqually's as a takeout brand.

But Chuck E. Cheese is not the only restaurant chain to struggle amid the global health crisis.

Some outposts of IHOP, Dennys, Ruby Tuesday, TGI Fridays and more have permanently shuttered due to hardships brought on by the pandemic.

CFRA Holdings, a franchisee operating 49 IHOP locations, filed for bankruptcy in early May and cited the coronavirus as the primary reason, according to FSR Magazine.

Aziz Hashim, the founder and managing partner of Ruby Tuesday owner NRD Capital, told Restaurant Business the pandemic will likely spur the closure of many more restaurants.

A Dennys franchisee, Feast American Diners, closed 15 locations of the popular breakfast chain while locations of the Indianapolis-based chain Steak n Shake and of TGI Fridays have also closed down permanently due in part to the pandemic.

TopicNBA Board approves 22-team plan to finish the 2019-20 season @ DisneyWorld

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-board-of-governors-approves-22-team-plan-to-finish-the-2019-20-season-at-disney-world/

After several months on hiatus, the NBA made significant headway in returning to play. On Thursday's board of governors call with league commissioner Adam Silver, the owners approved a plan to finish out the remainder of the 2019-20 season at Disney World in Orlando, where eventually, a champion will be crowned, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. The vote required three-fourths support to pass, and it received a 29-1 vote from owners on the call, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The owners now need formal approval from the National Basketball Players Association before the league can move forward. The NBPA is expected to hold a virtual call on Friday to approve the plan that the owners just voted on, according to the New York Times' Marc Stein.

The league is targeting a start date of July 31, where 22 of the 30 NBA teams are expected to participate in Orlando. That will include the 16 current playoff teams as well as the New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards. Teams will play an abbreviated version of the regular season that will consist of eight games, as well as a play-in tournament for the eighth seed in both conferences. The tournament will only happen if the No. 9 seed finishes within four games of the No. 8 seed, in which case the No. 9 seed will have to beat the No. 8 seed twice to earn the final playoff spot in their conference.

While NBA seasons had previously been shortened by labor disputes, never has the league halted operations so abruptly only to pick them back up months down the line. That creates a number of questions leading into the resumed season, including how teams will prepare after so much idle time. The current schedule has training camps scheduled to start on June 30, while teams invited to Orlando will travel to Florida on July 7. The San Antonio Spurs remain the only team in the league who have not opened their practice facilities for voluntary, individual workouts, but as one of the 22 teams competing in Orlando, that will surely happen soon so players can prepare for the remainder of the season.

In addition to voting on the resumption of the season, the call was also used to move the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery to Aug. 25 and NBA Draft to Oct. 15, which would come three days after the potential Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The league also informed the board of governors that free agency would start on October 18.

The NBA suspended its season on March 11 after two members of the Utah Jazz, later revealed to be Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, tested positive for COVID-19. Since then, a number of players and league figures have tested positive, including Kevin Durant, Marcus Smart and New York Knicks owner James Dolan. Those who did test positive have since recovered, and no new positive tests have been made public since.

When the season was suspended in March, there was a legitimate fear that it wouldn't come back. There are still hurdles left to clear, and the threat of coronavirus still looms over basketball as it does the rest of society. But today's news is the greatest indication yet that the 2019-20 season will have a champion.
