An Australian comedian was killed while walking home from a gig on Tuesday night, sparking a national discussion regarding violence against women.

Eurydice Dixon, 22, was discovered dead at a soccer field in Melbourne on Wednesday, the BBC reported. She was walking home following a performance at a bar in the central part of the city when she was allegedly raped and murdered just a few hundred feet from her home.

During her walk, Dixon sent a text message to a friend stating she was almost home safe, [how about you], The Age newspaper reported.

James Todd, 19, of Broadmeadows was arrested after he turned himself into to police on Wednesday. He was charged with rape and murder in connection with Dixon on Thursday after appearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court. Police do not believe the two knew each other.

Following Dixons death, a number of comedians expressed their condolences for the woman and shared memories of her stand-up routines. Fellow comics have set up a fundraising campaign to help raise money for Dixons family.

"She had a great passion for women's issues and social justice issues and she drew upon them a lot in the material that she produced as a comic," Nicky Barry, a comedienne, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Dixons death sparked anger among women in Australia who said "women should not feel unsafe walking home. A vigil called Reclaim the Park was set up on Monday in Princes Park to honor her memory.

"She should have been able to walk home safely from work without being followed and harmed in such a cruel way," the group who organized the vigil wrote on Facebook.

Australias Institute of Health and Welfare stated in a report in February that family, domestic and sexual violence affected mostly women in the country. About one in five women have been sexually assaulted and/or threatened since age 15, the report stated.

Todds next court date was slated for October.

A series of deafening blasts during Eminem's Bonnaroo set Saturday night prompted several festival-goers to criticize the hip hop artist for what they described as "gunshot" sound effects.

Shortly after starting his headlining set on the What Stage, three separate blasts rang out during his performance sparking debate on social media over whether such sound effects are appropriate in the context of recent mass shootings.

Dozens of tweets emerged almost immediately criticizing Eminem for the use of such sound effects.

"Less than a year after Vegas and @Eminem thinks it's a good idea to blast gun shot sfx onstage at a music festival?" wrote Brad King on Twitter. "Bad call on this headliner @Bonnaroo."

King, who referenced the October 1 shooting at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas, wasn't alone:

In turn, people who have seen the rapper perform said the loud bangs are common for his concerts.

58 people died in the Route 91 shooting and this is the first Bonnaroo since the shooting. Festival organizers have instituted many new safety measures, including metal detectors but while the efforts aim to quell fears, the tragedy of the fatal Las Vegas shooting remains fresh for some attendees.

Anthony Bourdain died in the bathroom of his hotel, and used the belt from his bath robe in the hanging.

Prosecutor Christian de Rocquigny revealed new details Saturday about Bourdain's death, adding there were no indication anyone had entered his room at Le Chambard Hotel, or any other signs of foul play.

The French official also told AP, toxicology testing will be conducted on the "Parts Unknown" host to determine if he had taken any medications, drugs or alcohol at the time of his death.

As we've reported, Bourdain's friend chef Eric Ripert found his body Friday morning in the hotel. They had been shooting in the area for an episode of Anthony's show.

The 68-year-olds incisive takes on politics of the day have been missing from Fox News Channels Special Report for nearly a year as he battled an abdominal tumor and subsequent complications, but colleagues and viewers alike had held out hope that he would return to the evening show he helped establish as must-viewing. But in an eloquent, yet unblinking letter to co-workers, friends and Fox News Channel viewers, Krauthammer disclosed that he has just weeks to live.

I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months, the letter began. I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but Im afraid I must tell you now that fate has decided on a different course for me.

Krauthammer, who graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1975 despite a first-year diving accident that left him a quadriplegic, explained that he had a malignant tumor removed from his abdomen last August. Although a series of setbacks left him in the hospital in the ensuing months, he believed until recently that he was on the road to recovery.

However, recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned, Krauthammer wrote. There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly. My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live. This is the final verdict. My fight is over.

Fox News viewers will undoubtedly miss Krauthammers formidable intellect and ability to analyze politics and politicians with a cerebral wit and keen charm. As the dean of The Fox News All Stars, the panel of pundits who break down headlines and events nightly on Fox News Channels top-rated Special Report, Krauthammer could be counted on to make viewers think, question and even chuckle.

Krauthammer was on his way to greatness in the medical field when he veered first into policy, and then into journalism. After medical school, he became chief psychiatry resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he studied depression and published ground-breaking findings in top medical journals. But in 1978, he took a job in the Carter administration directing planning in psychiatric research and later served as a speech writer for Vice President Walter Mondale.

NASA is set to make a major announcement about a Mars discovery on Thursday.

In a statement released earlier this week the space agency promised new science results from its Mars Curiosity rover.

News of an announcement has sent ripples of excitement through the scientific community.

Described as the most technologically advanced rover ever built, Curiosity launched on Nov. 6 2011. The rover landed on Mars' Gale Crate on Aug. 6 2012 with the goal of determining whether Mars was ever able to support microbial life.

The rover has already delivered some important scientific results. In 2013, for example, analysis of a rock sample collected by the vehicle showed that ancient Mars could have supported living microbes. In 2014 the rover measured a tenfold spike in methane, an organic chemical, in the atmosphere around it. The robotic laboratory also detected other organic molecules in a rock-powder sample collected by its drill.

Participants in NASAs 2PM EDT press conference include Paul Mahaffy, director of the Solar System Exploration Division at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center and Jen Eigenbrode, research scientist at Goddard. Chris Webster, senior research fellow at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Ashwin Vasavada, Mars Science Laboratory project scientist at JPL, will also be taking part.

Space.com reports that Curiosity recently began drilling on the Martian surface for the first time in 18 months. The rover is climbing Mount Sharp, a 3-mile-high mountain in the center Gale Crater, according to Space.com.

Mars looms ever larger in Americas space future. On May 5, NASA launched its InSight Mars lander on a 7-month journey to the red planet. The mission, which is managed by NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will provide scientists with a wealth of data.

NASAs long-term goal is to send a manned mission to Mars in the 2030s. However, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin thinks that a slightly later target date of 2040 is more realistic. In an interview in 2016, the Gemini 12 and Apollo 11 astronaut told Fox News that by 2040, astronauts could have visited Mars moon Phobos, which could serve as a sort of stepping stone to the Red Planet.

Other NASA missions to Mars are also planned, although the heat shield for the agencys 2020 Mars Rover recently cracked during tests. Officials say that the incident wont affect the missions 2020 launch date, according to Space.com. The six-wheeled robot is expected to arrive on Mars in 2021.

Earlier this year, NASA announced a project to build robotic bees capable of flying on Mars.

NASAs Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter also celebrated 12 years at the Red Planet this year.

Private space company SpaceX is also working to reach Mars. Speaking at the South by Southwest festival earlier this year, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that he expects to see test flights of the firms Mars spacecraft next year.

Jerry Maren -- the world's last living 'Wizard of Oz ' munchkin -- is now somewhere over the rainbow ... TMZ has learned.

We're told ... Jerry died over a week ago. His funeral was held over the weekend at Forest Lawn in Hollywood. The cause of death is unknown, but we're told he suffered from dementia. He passed away at a San Diego nursing care facility.

There were multiple reports he died back in March 2016 after a battle with pancreatic cancer ... but a close friend of Jerry's told us those reports were not true. Jerry still had a couple of years left in him.

Jerry had a bunch of small roles in Tinseltown ... but being a member of the Lollipop Guild was his most memorable.

Jerry was 98.

RIP.

"Roseanne " may be on the verge of rising from the dead with a second reboot, but this time centered around Sara Gilbert's character ... TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... the powers that be at ABC are exploring the possibility of re-branding the show and focusing on the character Darlene instead of Roseanne.

We're told Sara's been calling cast members to gauge their interest in the event ABC gives the reboot the green light. We're told John Goodman is "very interested."

Our sources say Tom Werner, who produced "Roseanne" through his company Carsey-Werner, is involved in the effort to reboot the show around Sara.

What's more ... ABC is desperately trying to salvage the jobs of those who were affected by its swift decision to cancel the show earlier this week ... especially for the writers and crew.

ABC canceled the show almost immediately after Roseanne tweeted President Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett is the spawn of the "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes."

DENVER An Uber driver fatally shot a passenger while the two were in a vehicle on an interstate in Denver.

Denver police department spokesman Sonny Jackson says preliminary information points to a conflict between the driver and passenger. He says shots were fired by the driver on Interstate 25 shortly before 3 a.m Friday.

The subsequent police investigation snarled morning rush-hour traffic through Denver. I-25 is the primary north-south route through the city, and the closure of the southbound lanes until 8 a.m. Denver time forced drivers to battle heavy traffic through residential areas and the University of Denver campus, backing up vehicles into neighborhoods as commuters sought alternate routes.

"This is very preliminary, but it appears there was an Uber driver and his passenger got into a conflict inside his vehicle, shots were exchanged, shots were fired and the passenger it appears was shot," Denver Police spokesperson Sonny Jackson told KUSA-TV in Denver.

While police said the driver worked for Uber, they could not confirm whether he was working at the time of the shooting.

The driver and victim were transported to hospitals. Jackson says the victim was pronounced dead, and the driver has been treated and released.

"We do know this person was an Uber driver. Were going to determine if he was actually on a ride when this happened. Were going to determine what the relationship was between what appears to be a passenger and a driver prior to this particular ride," Jackson told KUSA-TV. "Thats the one thing I would stress anyone that was on the highway at this time .if they saw a conflict going on inside this vehicle please let us know."

This is just the latest troublesome incident for the ride-hailing company in Denver and the state of Colorado. In April, Denver law professor Nancy Leong fired off a series of tweets describing how her Uber driver told her he was going to take her to a hotel instead of the Denver International Airport. At a stop light, she said she screamed and pounded on the vehicle windows until nearby construction workers noticed and the driver then unlocked the doors and Leong got out.

Last year, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission fined Uber $8.9 million after regulators found 57 Uber drivers over the previous year and a half were on the job despite having felony convictions, major moving violations or were driving with a suspended, revoked or cancelled driver's license.

The commission in April reduced the fine to $4.5 million after some violations were dismissed and a judge has not ruled on Uber's petition that the commission exceeded its authority with the penalty.

John Goodman is opening up about the cancellation of Roseanne, but the celebrated actor is being cautious about his comments regarding the controversy.

In recent footage obtained by ET, Goodman was at an auto repair shop in New Orleans where he was collecting his car after repairs. The actor was reluctant to address the drama, explaining that he would "rather say nothing than to cause more trouble."

However, the 65-year-old actor -- who played Roseanne Barr's on-screen husband, Dan Conner, on the ABC sitcom -- assured fans that he's doing OK amid the controversy, sharing, "Everything's fine."

The actor also seemed pretty content with ABC deciding to suspend its Emmys For Your Consideration campaign for the shows recent 10th season, which means that none of the cast or creators would likely see any love from this year's Emmy Awards.

"I wasn't gonna get an Emmy anyway," Goodman said, shrugging. "I've been up there [11] times already, and if I didn't get one I'm not gonna get one."

Goodman was nominated for 11 Emmys between 1988 and 2010 -- six of which were for his role on Roseanne. Goodman did take home one Emmy in 2007 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the short-lived series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

The sitcom also earned the veteran TV star five Golden Globe nominations, of which he won once, in 1993.

Goodman said he hasn't been following the news of the developing controversy regarding Roseanne, stating, "I don't know anything about it. I don't read it."

That includes rumors and speculation that the show could possibly continue in the future in the form of a spin-off, if Barr's titular character was written off, and the focus was shifted to Goodman's character. The actor said of the rumors, "Then you've heard more than I have."
