He didn't directly call anyone the "n-word", he just shouted it aloud like people do every other curse word when frustrated. He was not actually communicating it at him, it's an expression of exclamation for only himself to hear. I say all kinds of insult out loud to myself when I'm playing League, like "Look at this douchebag! What an asshole! Stupid c-word! Oh my god, I'm gay!". Often times, the worse the phrase the more cathartic the exclamation. But that's the point of the phrase--Catharthism in a moment of tension, not a communication of insult to another person. But he was on stream, which is obviously a problem. Sometimes what you say in private is not fit for the public. PDP is an entertainer and has made a living off of having exaggerated reactions on camera for people's entertainment. When he said it and realized it wouldn't land as a good joke, he even apologized immediately. But never mind any of that, I'm sure he has a boiling hatred tor black people in his heart, as evidenced by all those times he seriously disparaged black people, discriminated against them personally and professionally, made fun of their culture, and was generally racist aside from saying a naughty word twice on camera. Oh wait, my producer is telling me... He's telling me none of this has ever happened, and the entire argument that he's racist is from him saying a naughty word twice on camera. My argument here is not that you can not use the n-word in a racist manner. My grandmother is racist and it is not a secret that she discriminates against black people, because when she calls someone an "n-word" it's not under the assumption it's funny because it's taboo, it's because she views black people as sub-human. It's that you are doing the cause of black rights and civil treatment a disservice by over-zealously demonizing people without actual hatred in their heart. We are not fighting to get rid of naughty words, we are fighting to give black people equal treatment and equal opportunity in this world. That is going to have to involve dropping the cross and the need for victimization over the most inconsequential slights. The same issue plagues women's rights with stupid issues like "Mansplanning". Not everything is a dichotomy between Bigots and Good People. Sometimes good people make mistakes. I would think stories would get boring if writers were afraid to explore the behavior and mindset of people like Shinji. What else is off-limits for protagonists? Boring characters? Irrationally angry? Depressed? Romantically obsessed? Manipulative? Stupid? It seems so weird to judge a character by his behavior outside of the context of the story the author is trying to tell. Look at most of the dweebs on this website--Do you really think most of them would do stuff differently? Do you think most 15 year olds would suddenly grow a set of iron balls, drop their crippling fears and insecurities about women and themselves, and become a super badass? What world are you living in? My facebook feed is filled every day with 20-something year olds who can barely cope with paying taxes and balancing a checkbook. Also, being put in a bio-mechnical robot that literally syncs with your brainwaves then being forced to fight other giant terrifying monsters to the death (Either of you, plus humanity) really isn't my idea of a good time. How did we go from the shellshock and dehumanization in the original Gundam and Shinji being an emotional wreck of a human to glorifying giant robots and murder? Then turn around and criticize these legitimate human portrayals as shitty? Sentencing seemed to follow guidelines. I'm not sure what the outrage here is. It's one of a half dozen cases that pop up every day for statutory rape but it's the only one that goes viral. Use your heads and try to figure out why--And it's not because of sentencing.
