Not for nothing but right now the US is holding children they ripped away from their immigrant parents in internment camps indefinitely and lost over 1000 in the system with no idea who has them. So maybe we should get off our high horse a bit.

Yes, that does look pretty bad. Maybe it's happening more because Trump didn't have a plan for what to do with the kids when he decided to crack down harder on illegal immigrants, not that that's much of an excuse.

If you think that it's generally right to refer to a person by their chosen name when it's different from their birth name, I'm not sure what good reason you have not to refer to a trans person by their chosen name. You could say, "But we have to be able to tell from a person's name what their biological sex is!", but I hope nobody thinks that's a good reason. And we already seem to accept that people can go by nicknames like Alex that can apply to either sex.

Just to be clear, I haven't watched Miss America in a long time, so I don't care about this change. But somebody on the radio said that a lot of girls who have been staying in shape for years in the hopes of getting on Miss America are going to be angry that their work was for nothing, so I thought that if Miss America replaced the swimsuit portion with some "fitness test" it would create better will among the contestants.

But I think that, if the usual procedures of the justice system are followed, the danger of false allegations is still so small that it's outweighed by the ability to punish more rapists who deserve it. Obviously a false conviction is always a serious matter, but you can't eliminate them entirely without letting people get away with all crimes." At least I hope she meant something like that.

Did you know that Jordan Peterson actually believes that twined snakes in ancient art represent DNA?

http://www.jasoncolavito.com/blog/jordan-peterson-believes-ancient-chinese-had-knowledge-of-dna-double-helix

I don't know what to say to that, except that people have had so many wrong ideas about how the human body works that it would be very surprising if we had some unconscious understanding of something as microscopic as DNA. It just doesn't seem evolutionarily necessary for people to have such detailed knowledge of their bodies.

Quickly Googling it suggests that twined snakes are just a yin-yang--type symbol. Maybe it's a common symbol because people do seem to have a special ability to notice snakes and snake-like objects, which presumably evolved because prehistoric people had to deal with a lot of dangerous snakes.

What are we considering a remaster as opposed to a full-scale remake?

Anyway, if there was a game that I thought was worth playing through several times but that had, say, somewhat fuzzy graphics and some rather common bugs, I might buy the version of it that had those problems fixed even if there were no other upgrades. In fact (for example), I kind of wish that the DS version of Final Fantasy IV had been just that relative to the Game Boy Advance version; the 3D graphics of the former didn't feel as "iconic" to me.

I'm sure they won't let you hang out in the restroom for 15 minutes or anything; they probably just won't stop you if you "sneak" in, use the restroom, and leave right away.

Personally, I sometimes walk into a big store like a Barnes & Noble, look at things for a few minutes, sidle over to the restroom, use it, leave and look at things for a few more minutes, and then leave the store without buying anything. But it just feels rude to me to do that in a smaller place like a McDonald's where the cashiers can clearly see what you're doing; I'd buy something for a dollar in that case.

Why is the previously asexual character getting married considered good writing in any way?

Asexual people can have romantic lives. Some don't, but many do.

I read once* that there's evidence that your sexual orientation can gradually change over time, although trying to do it deliberately with conversion therapy both doesn't work and is torture for the person subjected to it.

I think that on TBBT, Sheldon and Amy have currently been having sex about once a year.

Well, it was a good episode, though if you don't generally find TBBT funny, you probably won't find this episode funny.

But on Young Sheldon last night, we learned that Sheldon will have kids at some point in the future (at the end of the show, the adult Sheldon narrator mentions that he has kids). Of course, that may not happen on TBBT before the show ends.

Actually, I suspect that the lore might go off the rails if you consider the Zork novels, CYOA books, and games published after Infocom folded. But I thought that those two ZorkQuest "visual novels" were neat, though they probably don't fit in with the lore from the main Infocom games.
