I think you meant Progressive, capitalized. Using it in the non-capitalized form implies that progress is being made, which has precious little to do with the capitalized form of the word.

Yeah. Theres a huge problem with the gun owning population wanting to use them, and its fueled by popular media. So often its a good guy with a gun saving the day, and after a few decades of that of course some people are going to see it as a solution to everything.

Its even more apparent in music. Rap music has been glorifying gun violence for decades, and the lyrics are often blatant declarations about their desire to use their firearms on others.

We need to implement methods for getting guns off the streets. I wholeheartedly agree with releasing drug offenders and raising the punishment for gun crimes. You need to be careful with mandatory minimums, though. Cops have some bad habits.

The cultural aspect is harder to approach.

Actually, I think Ive changed my mind on this. This isnt going to solve the issue, as the cops in Memphis are particularly awful. They had to lower their standards to the point that they allow in people with criminal records, for fucks sake. It wouldnt surprise me if the police chief was a corrupt piece of shit too. The whole city is corrupt. The fact that they think they need to do this shows that they cant handle the issue. The appropriate response is to send in the national guard.

The problem is not the dancing and the loud music. The problem is the thousands upon thousands of teenagers running around. This is giving them more options to get them off the street.

I dont think its ideal, but clearly they feel like they need to do something, which is accurate. Considering this is Memphis it is unlikely that this is motivated by racism. This is a desperate move to address crime, and it wouldnt be the first desperate move theyve tried that doesnt work out well.

If we are going by if you are part of a category of people that somebody somewhere hates, then nobody on the planet could hit D.

I mean it might be true, but when I worked at Walmart over 10 years ago they would literally give us reports of items in the "red" that were required to get locked up because they would consistently get stolen when they did a inventory reconciliation. It was always the small items like chapstik and nail polish. Surprisingly, Nintendo and Itunes gift card were on the list of highly stolen items for some reason....

This is correct. The items that get locked up are the ones that are most frequently stolen. It isnt racism or anything else. Retailers know which items get stolen.

And in case it's not obvious I should make clear the PA Senate Race in general took up tons of nationwide attention because
1. It was retired Republican Pat Toomey's seat and it's very notable for 2024 if purple PA appears to trend bluer
2. His opponent is a celebrity
3. The balance of power in the Senate is so fragile that every seat is potentially make-or-break for both parties

So now he's getting a lot of attention, but extra attention on reddit
