student housing is generally more expensive than market rate. They add in things like housekeeping, sometimes a basic meal allowance, etc. but the allure is for 17-19 year olds to move in with likeminded people, sort of a turnkey solution. The uni that i went to also demanded the entire semester paid up front, which is scammy af. It worked out to like 900 a month for a room rental in a 4-person townhouse, which was expensive at the time. I never did it but a friend of mine did, but she actually preferred to live with her dad for years 2-4.

No. Not outright. Now, what you may want to do, is finance a new car and put that towards the DP. Minimize the DP and try to invest the rest to get the interest rate differential -- but that's probably really difficult, idk what car finance rates are like but i imagine pretty high.
