Being autistic is an intrinsic part of how our brain works, equating it with the negative side effects (some of which are the result of societal prejudice to begin with) is what people find offensive, and it's impossible to "cure" unless you completely erase a person. Which means treating a cure as possible or desirable harms autistic people by spreading the idea that our core existence is an external disease, and diverting resources that should be used to actually help autistic people.
