I've said my fill, and almost certainly driven this topic beyond any point of relevancy in doing so, but I wanted to make one last comment.

Productive conversation isn't the goal of the mods. Their goal is to mock, belittle, and gaslight the users they're punishing as often as possible.

If that's how you really feel, go post somewhere that doesn't moderate its content. If you feel like you're unjustly being confined to a tiny box via zealous moderator judgement, then you're probably going to have a better time posting somewhere with more lax rules or without moderation altogether.

If your overarching view on moderators is that they only exist to abuse their power and harass legitimate users of the board, then find somewhere where this supposed abuse of power is a non-issue - i.e. where there are no moderators.

Your comments aren't going to move Heaven and Earth to overhaul this website's moderation policies. If your contempt genuinely runs this deep for the GameFAQs mod staff, then you should really ask yourself the question as to why you still post here when the reaction to your posts, in your eyes, is this poor.

The worst part about the TLJ divide is that there is more to say than just "Rian Johnson Bad! Rose Tico Bad! Canto Bight Bad!", but everyone just falls into the same old shit every fucking time.

I don't think her character was done super well, but Rose Tico really isn't that bad. Like her role isn't too flash, but this idea that she's emblematic of everything wrong with Star Wars and people crying for her to be killed off... it's like jeez man, there have been worse Star Wars characters before Rose Tico and there will be worse characters after Rose Tico as well. They needed to do a better job with her character, but the degree to which everyone is ass-blasted about her is ridiculous.

Canto Bight did blow pretty huge chunks in the end, but I feel that's moreso due to the unnecessary chase scene with the giant dogs. I actually really liked the casino, I liked seeing all of these weird fucking alien people, and there's even a new jizz song in the background. It's a very bright, poppy setpiece while they're in the casino, and while it's ultimately brought down by Benicio Del Toro and the big "Fuck You We're Disney" chase sequence, it had nice elements to it and it could have benefitted from a few rewrites and cuts to make it less tedious and long-winded.

The humor was pretty much indefensible though, from the first 5 minutes it feels like really misplaced Marvel humor. I did like Luke's sense of humor, though - hated Poe's "yo mama" joke, and a lot of the movie's forced humor, but Luke killed it every time. Even the low-hanging Jakku joke got me, and I actually really liked the scene where he tickles Rey's hand with a reed.

But it's the inconsistent tone, long-ass runtime and really shaky subplot with Finn and Rose that just make it a poor follow-up to The Force Awakens. It has gravitas near the end, but there's so much shit you have to cut through and it's such a bummer. Saying that though, it's not even the worst blockbuster of the last 5 years. People don't give the bottle episode aspect a lot of love, and the tone from the critics tends to be really absolute - the movie was just bad, it's irrefutable, there's nothing to like etc. But even in universally reviled places like Canto Bight, there are bright spots which shine through with wasted potential that no-one bothers to mention because "it's Canto Bight, it sucks".

I hope there's never another TLJ-type movie, but the discourse has gotten so lazy and dry around this movie and it's that hive-mind aspect of the Star Wars fanbase that's the worst. All of the "true" fans have laid out the points they agree upon, and now they just bash through the opposition with the same tired shit. Defenders will defend the movie in the face of what it deems to be pissy and reductive points about the movie, and the detractors will trash the movie in the face of what it deems to be SJW shilling. There's nothing actually being said about the movie any more.

Yeah, disputes have been like that for a while. The only time you ever get a response in the dispute form now, is if you lose your dispute privileges through grievous abuse of the system. It even states when you go to dispute that you will not get a response for any reason, as well.
Which struck me as an open and communicative comment. And I feel like Caelthus' comments after this one were made in good faith, too - even when the topic started getting derailed.

I'm not trying to be a nuthugger here - I saw this post and I thought it was constructive and respectful of the topic, and the only thing that came from that correspondance before I made my initial post is that Gobstoppers and a similarly minded user tried to chase that one helpful mod up a tree over a bunch of self-righteous "who watches the watchers" horse crap.

This bugged me because it lowered the chance of TC getting a response to his query from someone who was equipped and willing to discuss it. Dude had a legitimate query and was chill about it, as opposed to the usual suspects making threads like "I guess it's WRONG to post FACTS now!" when they were moderated for something like posting a "Michelle Obama is Transgender" conspiracy video. I thought it was stupid that other users would try to waste TC's opportunity on a bunch of self-lionizing bigger picture stuff that's all about them.

LightningAce is a cool guy, and it was just fucking annoying to see users overrun his thread like that.

Wait what happened?
The examples mentioned in the OP:

In 2018, Xsquader threatened to sue GameFAQs for defamation or some shit. He was permanently banned from the website for this. He had a habit of recording phone calls without the knowledge or consent of other people, and he aggravated a bunch of cops over semantics until he was driven to start bashing his head into the ground.

Just now, the user INTERWEBUSER has threatened to sue GameFAQs. I see this as a similar example to Xsquader, and only a year after that whole ball of crazy.

The Twitter thing is in reference to the user Tails82 spending hours on Twitter @-ing Error and just continuously and needlessly antagonizing him. He also hosts a WordPress blog where he vows to bring the demented truth about Error to light no matter what the cost is or some shit, and he contributes to the world's pissiest subreddit dedicated to slagging off moderators, users they don't like who they group into this "Brigader" boogeyman and a handful of standout users they don't like very much.

I've been around on GameFAQs for 3 years, after spending around 8 years on a forum/chatroom as a kid and around 7 years on another social media platform with its own users. In all that time on those other platforms, I rarely saw the level of mental illness I see on GameFAQs. It's baffling how this platform seems to breed a similar degree of weird sickness in so many people.

The Wii was Nintendo's best-selling console ever, and padded their coffers so well that they could survive a good 3 or more console failures like the Wii U. And the Switch brought console hardware and playability to a handheld form factor, which has been a pretty inspired design choice in a world where every new console coming out is "it's like the old one, but it looks a little better".

They aren't booting down the door like in the 80's and 90's, but the Wii sold gangbusters to become their best-selling home console ever and they're still innovating with new, popular products. I like to think that after the Wii hype died down and the Wii U slipped into its early grave, Nintendo have been making a real comeback to the forefront with the Switch. There's more advertising now than ever, game releases are steadily becoming the best-selling entries in their respective franchises and Nintendo have shown themselves willing to experiment and have fun with the console - whether they're industry leaders or not, they fill a much needed niche in the industry, and are decently relevant to this day. They're arguably more relevant now than they have been for a lot of the 2010's.

I will say though, every PlayStation console (barring 3) has sold more units worldwide than the Wii, and the PS2 is the best selling console of all time. PlayStation is a real success story, and I personally enjoy Sony hardware. They are killing it right now, with very few blunders to speak of. I can respect that they've been industry leaders for the last 25 years, but the conversation isn't only about PlayStation. The games market needs variety to survive, and Nintendo's creativity as well as Xbox's backwards compatibility and game pass ventures are worthy of discussion alongside the influence Sony has demanded over the years.

I genuinely believe that Edward Snowden still loves his country. He leaked information out of a love for his country and his fellow man, and I think he's been pretty humble about it even during his exile in Russia. Dude doesn't use his influence to huck shitty headlines or get excessive funding, he's only ever spoken out on America's security and the rights of its citizens - and I think if given the chance, he would come to bat for America's best interests again.

Of course, anxiety is understandable since he's been sheltered by Russia for like a decade at this point. It would have been nice to have Edward Snowden around, instead of forcing him to flee his homeland. But I think he still has an ethical, patriotic bone in his body regardless of that.

Shit, even as someone with close proximity to Russia, Snowden comes across as a much better dude than someone like George Zimmerman. Even at his worst, he's a better public role model than that clod.

I was sick of the Force Awakens oversaturation, but it was never a bad movie lmao

I swear to god, it was the biggest movie on the planet for like a year and then a bunch of bitterbeards came along and #NotMyStarWars'd it. Strange, considering it recaptured the spirit of adventure without the need for a "Space Fascist erodes the core of intergalactic politics over the course of 3 movies so he can become a creepy space man shooting lightning out of his hands" plotline.

The Last Jedi was rough, though. They could have cut back on the Canto Bight chase sequence and really reined in the goofy Marvel humor, and it would have been a pretty solid movie. But God that flick was a slog.

Then again, I wouldn't really call myself a Star Wars fan to begin with. Star Wars fandom is about as hazardous to a sane person's health as second-hand smoking.

A shame for sure, but he wouldn't be involved with Russia if America's first response wasn't to charge him as a traitor and put him in jail for life.

He let all of America know how their freedoms were secretly being weakened by the state. Without his courage, your personal information would have been weaker than ever before. Even if the government was going to fuck your information over eventually, this act brought one attempt to light and forced the government to stop their unethical horseshit for a period of time.

Edward Snowden fled to Russia because his home country was going to call him a traitor and send him to jail on trumped-up charges. Not because he was a Russian agent trying to make your country weaker. He acted because he saw your freedoms being eroded, and Russia is somewhere that the US couldn't extradite him from.

The Wii-U was something I enjoyed but hands down it is the worst console Nintendo has released.

It was basically a prototype Switch. Hell, it seems like 75% of the library has or will be ported, and other games received sequels that make the predecessor obsolete (Mario Maker, Smash 4)
I feel like the Wii U was making its own strides against the PS3/4 and the 360/One, but it fell behind and it didn't have enough strength on its own to really stand out. For all intents and purposes, the Wii U was a half-step upgrade between the Wii and Switch.

If you don't believe me, look at the Wii U's reliance on Wii hardware, the easy and appreciated Switch ports of the system's best games, and the nature of the touch-pad compared to the Switch's final concept. Everything about the Wii U looks like a half-cooked Switch. The Wii U was the DSi of Nintendo's home consoles.

Lol @ the mods coming into this topic to address criticism of the mod system, Gobstoppers getting super aggressive at them over "oversight" when he really means "dialogue", and continuing to fight them when this is pointed out. Caelthus even pointed out that they think the system has issues, which was met with more "moderators sitting in their ivory towers!" sabre-rattling.

Mods show up ready to actually talk about issues with the mod system, and people unload every last nitpick until no-one can actually discuss the topic at hand. Even as the mods indicate they're keen to discuss the issue, it becomes one or two user's responsibility to lionize themselves until nothing gets done.

Anyway - this is absolutely a one step forward, two steps back sort of deal. The group-voting idea is pretty good, but without necessitating a response, all that does is strip a previously given moderator responsibility away and leave users in the dark when they're driven to dispute their moderations.

It would be cool if we could get some more mod input on the new system, and maybe work out where TC supposedly went wrong. I don't think he's usually the shitposting type.

Snowden is an amusing example of politics making strange bedfellows.

Nowadays you hear people and politicians saying they love whistle blowers and they deserve high praise. But when Snowden first came out, some were talking about him deserving execution as a traitor and the US government wanted to stick that guy in the deepest, darkest hole it could find. Definitely controversial.
I see this as politicians trying to appeal to pro-whistleblowing types, people who think we have a right to know when there's information being used unethically and without the public's knowledge or consent, without intending to follow through when the next big scandal leaks.

The second someone else blows the lid on a scheme that shows that the government is trying to undermine the freedoms of the public, they'll turn face and call that whistleblower a criminal and a traitor all over again. There will be another Edward Snowden, and the next one might not be so lucky.

I'm probably biased since I've played it the most, but I rather like Borderlands 1's opening. Borderlands 2 has a much slower beginning imo.

Borderlands 2 gets good when Sanctuary starts flying. Just about everything up to that point is garbage.

Liar's Berg sucks. Bullymongs suck. The starting guns suck, which is to be expected, but it makes the Bullymong slog even fucking worse. Sir Hammerlock and the new self-aware butt monkey Claptrap are not easy characters to start off with, especially with the "minion" shit. Then when you get to Sanctuary, you're stuck watching the Roland and Firehawk Show through a bunch of shitty missions and cutscenes while you stand around with your dick in your hand.

The plot picks up after around 15 levels, but the road to this point is ass. I've played that opening like four times without getting into the game proper. It's awesome now that I am in the good part of the game, but it doesn't erase how much I hate the opening of the game from Liar's Berg up until shit goes to hell and Sanctuary gets airborne to escape. Up to that point, Borderlands 2 has been nothing but a slog for me.

Before y'all get carried away responding to TC in a fervor over this election win, be aware that you'll be responding to Proudclad. It'll probably be a better idea to let him stew instead of encouraging him, but that's just me.

What do you expect from people who got shitty at kids for getting political about gun violence - after surviving a school shooting? They don't think some kids who were threatened by gun violence are allowed to use their platform to try and make a difference because they're just kids who "don't know what they're saying" or "shilling the liberal agenda", even though they've almost certainly been closer to the evils of gun violence than your average conservative.

Conservaturds don't like anyone younger than them espousing liberal talking points. They can claim that they're young, self-absorbed, know-nothing idiots who are being manipulated by a larger narrative, which makes them pathetic for not having original thoughts of their own - and then turn around and troll with a bunch of the same brain-dead Trump talking points, because looking like an oblivious moron is funny to them.

Greta Thunberg is only the latest target. There will be younger people who get publicity for wanting to make a difference, and without fail there'll be a bunch of used butt plugs waiting in the wings to gang up on someone who's a good 10+ younger than them for "being a shill". It's disgusting.

If you take the high road dealing with Trump, he wins because he throws out kindergarten level insults and the chuds cheer. Being the bigger man doesn't work.
We saw this when that whole stadium of people were booing him. Taking pleasure in being better than the doofy prick yelling out insults to his eagerly awaiting fanbase? That doesn't stop his statements from attracting new blood or resonating with his current base. Ignoring that it's happening doesn't stop Trump from benefitting from those actions.

But booing the man so severely that he looks like he's about to cry? That's an actual, measurable effect on his appearance. It actually resonates with the man being booed. We saw a man so full of pride, a man who's constantly emboldened by his passionate fanbase, have a moment of realisation that thousands upon thousands of people around him hate him.

There's something to be said about sinking to new lows to undermine the other side, because that'll probably result in some form of nihilism and/or eventual fascism. "Winning at all costs" should never be the goal of an elected official. But taking the opportunity to hit some sleazeball with a low blow every now and again, especially when they've based their entire popularity around hitting other people with low blows, isn't always unjustified. Puts the arrogant bastards in their place.

Here's the thing about time. Humanity has managed to approximately work out how long it takes for the Earth to revolve around the sun based on the seasons, and from there we've been able to work out age in proximity to how we tell time. Thousands of years and multiple different calendars have worked us into a 12 month cycle of 365 days, give or take a day every 4 years and an occasional "leap minute" or "leap second" on New Year's to make up the difference. People have not measured time in this method since time immemorial.

If it wasn't for Julius and Augustus Caesar adding July and August to the Gregorian calendar, we would have 10 months. If humanity adopted a different calendar, we would be having days with different hours, arranged in different months. If enough things went differently we could have hours that are twice as long as our current hours, and weeks that take twice as long to end. Everything would still revolve around our day/night cycle and our seasonal cycle, and the same amount of time would elapse - but every day would be 12 hours, weeks would last for 14 12-hour days and who the fuck knows if we would even have months. Every other aspect of how we tell time could be different given that it loosely lines up to our days and nights.

We filter our perception of time through a rough human approximation that's become more well-defined over time. Our cycle of 24 hour days, 7 day weeks and 12 month years could have easily been thrown out in favor of a wackier system of telling time, and we would be just as accustomed to that as we are to how we tell time right now. Our method of telling time is not universal, either - what we know as "time" only applies to Earth. Things age, time turns forward, but the method in which we think about time is a human creation that is far from universal.

Everything you know about time is fragile as fuck. You could have been born into a world without a Wednesday and you wouldn't think anything of it. Time itself is a solid construct, we March closer and closer to the end of our life spans every second of our lives. But "Time", how we perceive it in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years and onwards, and the name itself are all human creations. Someone thought of the 24 hour day. People agreed to judge years by months, and they agreed to add more months to the calendar when pressured by royalty. These concepts are not innate laws of the universe - it's just how we've come to perceive time.

Good singles band, at least for a while. They've been washed-up with like faux-hippie shit and shitty EDM drops for a while, and I'm not super hot on a majority of their stuff in general. But I eat shit up like The Scientist, Yellow and Speed of Sound in a heartbeat.

Maybe I'm just blind as fuck, but I don't see "trans imagery" in that shit you posted.

And since it's been posted by people specifically looking for that trans imagery, they have a clear bias and narrative.

What I'm saying is, if someone said, in 1999, "hey this film is filled with transgender imagery", I'd buy it.
But now it's just people looking for it.

There. I spelled er out for ya.

In a 2016 GLAAD Media Awards speech, Lilly Wachowski said "Theres a critical eye being cast back on Lana and Is work through the lens of our transness. This is a cool thing because its an excellent reminder that art is never static."

I thought this was an interesting quote from the filmmakers, though of course it doesn't confirm or deny anything. It's simply a nice statement about how beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Ultimately we all have our own unique views and opinions on stuff, and there's nothing stopping you from seeing the movie as a standard sci-fi flick. There's also no real reason why people should pay the author any mind after the text has been published - death of the author is a thing - or why people should view the text through a different lens.

But in the same vein, there's nothing stopping someone from applying a new critical framework to an old text. Even if something is unintended, the fact that there are movies that seem to meet the views of these critical frameworks is worth discussing among people who are open to that sort of thing.

Basically, no-one has to view The Matrix as depicting LGBTQIA themes if they don't want to, but the discussion is there, things seem to be lining up for the people who find the idea fascinating and people are interested in the idea. This doesn't supercede the text, but applying it as subtext has got a lot of people excited.

Anyone can enjoy the text as it stands, but applying different ideas, theories and themes as subtext isn't necessarily bunk if that's not an angle you're interested in pursuing.

You owe it to yourself to man up, face her in person and tell her it's over.

There are three options here: you break up with her over text and look chickenshit, she breaks up over text and looks chickenshit, or you have the tact to get together with her and talk this whole thing out.

It'd be harder to do, but you're approaching her with respect for the time you both put into the relationship, and you're making an effort to close the book on it with tact and class. There's no doubt that comes from a sterile-ass text, there's no inevitable awkward reunion with weeks and months of anticipating the moment where you have to confront each other in person.

It's gonna suck either way, but you're better off doing this right. A clean break, with all cards on the table and no room to fester in negativity between physical meetings, will be worth it in the long run.

Sometime in the last 2 years, I was on a "It Must Have Been Love" kick. After looking around for live versions for a while, I found one from 2016 or so - and the singer looked and sounded dreadful. There was something really sad and uncomfortable about the whole video, she wasn't keeping time and she looked so sick. It's through the comments that I learned the whole story.

Marie had contracted an aggressive form of brain cancer, and she'd underwent years of aggressive chemotherapy to survive it. The condition had damaged her to the point she had to learn how to sing her old songs again, and I believe it left her blind in one eye. She also needed a pair of hearing aids. The woman in the video was in her late 50's, but she looked like she was in her eighties at least.

It was incredibly demoralising to see her in that state. She had survived such a tragic condition, but you could tell that it had aged her by decades and taken pieces of her that she would never get back. Her worth isn't decided by her music, and the whole idea of it was a lovely gesture. But she went through absolute fucking hell with that cancer, and the strain of it showed in every line on her face.

I hope her final days were more peaceful than that, surrounded by family and taking comfort in the legacy of her music.
