I led my post with that because it's the most pertinent point of what I was saying. I disagree with your point, I think it's incredibly short-sighted and it invites the same dumbfuck Trumper rhetoric that kicked off the Capitol Hill shitshow yesterday.

"Joe Biden is just as far right as Trump" invites comparison between yesterday's example of domestic terrorism and a hypothetical wave of political violence coming from the Biden supporting left that - as of this moment - doesn't exist. It's similar to all the violence projected onto the "alt left" by the Republicans and Donald Trump. It can suggest that political violence on this scale is endemic to the left, and is far-reaching and inevitable, in direct response to the right wing actually enacting this violence.

Your point is that "Biden is just as far right as Trump", but all that boils down to is that Biden's supporters are just as fanatical and extreme. Because the actual far right don't accept Biden, as shown by yesterday's event. Whether you realise it or not, that's the implication of your sad, cold take.

And I find the implications of that to be incredibly disgusting and tasteless. It's not needed, it's not clever, and you should be called on it.

As I specified in the rest of my post, Biden and the Democrats aren't great. The winds of change ultimately still rest in the hands of the people. That's what little common ground I can share with you on this. But your point is ignorant at best, and playing into the same Trumper dogshit that pins this level of Republican violence on the left at worst. In the wake of those fuckfaces capturing the fucking heart of America's political process, that rhetoric isn't needed.

If you're talking about an 18 year old and a 16 year old, I still think there's a substantial difference in age. One is about to become an adult, and the other one isn't going to be on that level until they turn 18 and graduate. So yeah, it would still be pretty suss imo. As a rule of thumb, this sort of thing gets worse the younger you make the parties - a 16 year old chatting up a 14 year old is worse that the gap we're talking about, and a 14 year old chatting up a 12 year old is even worse than that.

But a factor that affects this is if the two people even knew each other in school. Depending on the situation, an age gap of 17 and 19 isn't the end of the world, but you'd hope that the people involved have some sort of common ground. You'd at least hope that they knew each other in school, or through family friends or something.

Ultimately it's all pretty pedantic, but I believe that as people get older, they are responsible for the well-being of people who are younger than them. I live in an area of the world where you're considered an adult at 18 - you can drink, smoke, drive, vote, all that stuff. And as I view 18+ individuals as adults, I find the idea of a 19 year old chatting up someone who's still in high school to be distasteful. You have a year of relative life experience over someone who's a year away from graduating. That's substantial, in my opinion.

But I know there's room for nuance. One girl I went to high school with lost her virginity to her boyfriend when she was 15 and he was 18. They're married with two kids now, they're 25 and 28 respectively, and they're inseparable and incredibly in love. On paper, that's sketchy as hell - I oppose it in theory more than I oppose an age gap between 17 and 19. But they've defied the odds, and I respect the relationship they have.

I didn't think my response to Tenlaar through, and I'd like to consider this my definitive response on the matter. That's the position I'm coming at this from. And that's why I think callmecarson's behavior is the bigger factor here. While I don't think it was appropriate for someone who's been out of school for a year to be chatting up high schoolers, the point of contention with these messages I've seen is a flippant sexual attitude on Carson's part. Ultimately though, both aspects of this controversy should be addressed.

I would still say that someone who's graduated from high school chatting to someone who hasn't graduated high school is a bit inappropriate. The same gap would be more appropriate if the younger party was 19 and the older party was 21.

fwiw, we really should be keeping a close eye on athletes and entertainers. Grooming, abuse and sexual assault are still entirely too common among people with power.

I mean fuck, a trans webcomic artist I've been following for years recently got outed for abuse - she invited another person into a pre-existing relationship and got her to draw comics, those comics weren't doing the same numbers as the OG ones, and in the span of a couple of months the new girl was kicked out of the relationship and the home they all shared. She left someone out in the cold after uprooting her life.

The victim went from dating the artist of a comic she liked and getting to draw canon comics, to being kicked out of the place she was living because her comics did poorly. And the power imbalance of that relationship - the OG author has ownership of the IP as a whole and you don't want to clash with that, and the apartment belonged to her in the first place so the newer lady had to leave in the end - made it impossible to speak out against what was happening.

That's one instance of a power imbalance negatively affecting someone's life, and the person who was at the heart of it was like... Tumblr famous, at best. People with more fame than that will almost certainly use the power that their fame affords them to get away with worse things than that.

We should absolutely hold other entertainers, athletes and public figures to a set of standards.

Yup, tagged him as "Wife was 14 he was 19". This callmecarson thing is inappropriate in its own way, but this guy is setting off alarm bells all over the place. Regardless of how it turned out, that's fucking creepy to the max dude.

Callmecarson definitely acted inappropriately here, and ultimately I do think that being out of high school and chatting up high school kids is a bad move. But I think it's more about his behavior than the gap here, and if he can take responsibility and move forward, I think he still has a future as an entertainer.

But he needs to acknowledge that he behaved inappropriately if he hasn't already, and for peace of mind I would like it if he explicitly said that he's not trying to chat up high schoolers. He's in his 20's now, as early as they are, and that brings a level of responsibility and accountability that compounds with age.

This shit sucks, but I think callmecarson is young enough that he can learn from this if he takes the criticism on board and does better moving forward. The gap isn't great, but given that he's not targeting that age group as a whole as he continues to age - and given that he's treating any women he does speak to with more respect - I think he has the capacity to change for the better.

And again, at least he's not talking to 14 year olds. Christ, that's weird.

Between December 23rd and January 2nd, I experienced the biggest wave of depression and stress I've felt in recent memory. I ate like shit the whole time, but I've still managed to slim down lately by some bizarre miracle.

The feelings I've been experiencing are intensely negative, and I was throwing down chocolate bars like they were vitamins. I spent this entire week eating like absolute shit. But I genuinely feel like I've trimmed a bunch of kilos. I feel tighter and less heavy, and people have commented on it. It's surreal.
