But even so would that have mattered much if Nintendo had put any effort into marketing the device or made games that would be system sellers for it?

Like, Nintendo killed the Wii U by not marketing it, flatout. I've seen like 4 ads for it on tv throughout its lifecycle. Yes, the name was bad and confusing, but would it have mattered if people thought there was a reason to acquire it? Something that Nintendo made damn sure nobody would think.

The Wii-U was something I enjoyed but hands down it is the worst console Nintendo has released.

It was basically a prototype Switch. Hell, it seems like 75% of the library has or will be ported, and other games received sequels that make the predecessor obsolete (Mario Maker, Smash 4)

Yeah it certainly was a big reason. Very underpowered too but without the whole handheld thing to make up for it like the Switch. Wii owners, the large demographic they had built up, didnt feel it because their Wii wasnt broken/ the confusion and more serious gamers were busy with other options as we know.

People saying the name Xbox One is confusing are just stupid lol. Thats like saying the Xbox 360 was the 360th Xbox model.

That's a silly thing to actually believe. Some numbers have fairly obvious meaning in context. Like, people understand what the 64 in Nintendo 64 refers to, what the 98 in Windows 98 refers to, or what the 360 in Xbox 360 refers to.

Nobody has a clue what the One in Xbox One means.

Some good games but one of the biggest disasters ever from a major console company. It sold about the same as the PlayStation VITA in overall sales LOL

Nobody has a clue what the One in Xbox One means.

The one means that its an all in one entertainment system according to their initial presentation. The 360 in Xbox 360 is a mystery to me and probably most people who played it since it was just the console to get back then. And besides, not knowing what it means doesnt excuse thinking its actually the first Xbox.

I feel like the Wii U was making its own strides against the PS3/4 and the 360/One, but it fell behind and it didn't have enough strength on its own to really stand out. For all intents and purposes, the Wii U was a half-step upgrade between the Wii and Switch.

If you don't believe me, look at the Wii U's reliance on Wii hardware, the easy and appreciated Switch ports of the system's best games, and the nature of the touch-pad compared to the Switch's final concept. Everything about the Wii U looks like a half-cooked Switch. The Wii U was the DSi of Nintendo's home consoles.

The name caused a bad launch. The lack of third party support and lackluster showings from Nintendo doomed it.

It was never going to replace the Wii for super casuals though. The tablet offered nothing of value to them.

I assume it's because the properties themselves are so old, so people don't really consider franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, Etc to be a ding against Sony or Microsoft, but at this point you have to start to question when franchises like Halo or God of War will no longer get that sort of credit either, or whether that's a uniquely anti nintendo position.

People have always said that...the marketing is a major reason it sold poorly. there is a reason the remakes on the switch are so well received...it had good games that no one played because they didn't have the console since Nintendo did a terrible job at marketing it....Parents basically said "we already have a Wii, what even is this?"...It wasn't like NES to SNES where they were able to showcase the differences and explain why the two consoles are different. They just didn't do anything...All it was was "but oooohh...look the controller is a touch screen and you can play the games on it!"....Ok, and?

A modded Wii U is also my pick for the one Nintendo system you should own if you can only pick one.

Most of the Switch ports started as Wii U games and ergo you're still experiencing most of what it had to offer

As much as I loathe it, I still recognize is as a necessary learning experience for Nintendo as it galvanized them go back to the drawing board and actually innovate.

Cause, that's pretty true.

And actually PC would have by far the largest gaming catalog thanks to BC. Even more if you count emulation (which I don't in this example)

When people XBox has no games they mean the exclusives are lacking and not as good as the exclusives on the other 2 consoles....which is true. It has games, and many of those can be played on PS4 which also has better exclusive games to play. They're gonna need more than Halo and Forza.

The Wii U has literally every Zelda but the Four Swords games, Link's Awakening, and the Oracle games. It's the best Zelda machine ever made and it's not even close.
