My 17 month old takes up all my free time. Sure I don't have time for video games, reading, working out, netflix, going out for a few drinks, etc all things I enjoyed doing. I can still do those things but just much less. But at the end of the day none of those beat the joy of playing around with him and seeing him laugh and play. I just can't wait til he gets older and we can play sports together or video games together, go to sporting events, theme parks, etc.

Assuming you're living in a great area and working a great job.

I've been doing 20-30 min commutes for the last 7 years. It would be nice to have a <10 min commute, but at the same time a longer commute allows me to do things like listen to audiobooks and podcasts. I don't mind it.

Now that I'm looking for a new job, I'm reevaluating how much commute I'd be willing to do. 45 min commute means I leave home 1 hour early. So if I start at 7am lets say, I leave home at 6, to account for door to door time, traffic, accidents, etc. That means I wake up at 5:30 to get ready.

I don't want a large truck, which is part of the reason for me leaning towards tacoma over american trucks. and the mid-sized american trucks are ugly af.

I actually drove a tacoma for about 5 years. it was manual transmission but total base model. I liked it. it was just bare bones...no automatic windows, no automatic locks, stick shift, just had a CD player and some basic AC/heating.

Just looked at the 2021 US News and World Report rankings. I got accepted to a top ten university, ended up going to a top 20 that gave me a scholarship. And I also got accepted to a few top ten liberal arts colleges. Some of those might be more impressive, actually. I also was offered full rides at some good in state schools just off merit. I wasnt a straight A student in high school but I graduated high up. I got a 1500+ SAT score. I had performed really well in my extracurricular activity - like, getting actual state verified rewards at some of the highest levels. And I did a good enough job on the essay for my applications. No in person interviews.

Well tbh, these american trucks are more spacious and comfortable, have better tech features, and obviously can tow and haul way more. The main benefit of a tacoma is that it lasts longer.

I went to a very competitive public HS and got into a decent university with an average GPA. I worked hard in classes I enjoyed and bullshitted my way through classes I didnt care for. I came out with a great work ethic that has carried me to this day. I also had many peers who went to average public highschools who graduated with amazing GPAs, but couldn't keep up with the work ethic that was required in university to do well. I literally saw these people struggling to keep up with the workload whereas for me it was a breeze.

I think it makes a huge difference. But I just want to here other anecdotes to see what other peoples experiences have been.

The main thing I want to know is how competitive was your highschool? (And middle school for that matter)

I ask because I am looking to move and I want my kid to go to a competitive highschool, thinking that will increase his chance of getting into a prestigious university. Being in California that would mean: UCLA, Berkeley, San Diego, Stanford, or any other prestigious out of state school.

Its a balance of cost of living vs quality of schools. They are directly related. I'm confident he'll be a hard worker and into academics. But an average highschool can often handicap you whereas a competitive HS can give you a boost.

I treat covid patients every day in the ICU. I can tell you anecdotally that a large chunk of our ICU patients are between mid 20s and mid 50s. Certainly much more than there were in April. Back in April I had a few young patients in their 20s and 30s...they were morbidly obese (BMI 50+) with untreated sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Right now the 20s-50s people are just normal people. Its scary cuz we see ourselves in these people. Just normal body, maybe some high blood pressure being treated with 1 pill, no diabetes, no other medical problems.

And when I say they're sick, I mean they are pretty much on maximum ventilator settings and/or ECMO.

Its honestly scary.

This is not a bad idea at all.

When I say they need innovation and creativity, this is what I mean. Like look beyond just stocking games and some basic accessories. E-sports hubs, host tournaments, local parties/clubs, etc. I'm a casual gamer now but if my local gamestop was hosting a fifa tournament or COD tournament, you bet your ass I'd get in on it.

I mean these things of things take alot of money to start, but they can always gather up enough to do it in big cities and expand from there.

Of course rewards programs are garbage You cant make money by giving away shit for free.

If I sat down for 1 day to think of ideas, I could probably come up with more innovative ideas than they've thought of in 2 decade.

Rewards programs aren't shit. The idea is you're taking customers from other companies. So many people buy from target/amazon/best buy whatever has the best deal. They can give the best deals in the form of loyalty programs, take that hit, have more customers in the long run. Its a net profit.

They're the only large retail company that is solely dedicated to video games.

Like with some creativity they could easily dominate the market.

I mean I would have to sit down and think of some ideas but to start some kind of rewards program like best buy gamerclub. I know they had some powerup rewards thing. I haven't looked into it in a while but it used to be garbage.
