Yeah, I needed to use AI manipulation to beat it in the end, queuing them up on the left where Fjorm and a healer could wall them whilst B!Cordelia picked off the stragglers. Even then I needed certain seals so that Cordelia would survive a trade with the bow cavalier with 1hp.

I don't quite get the hype surrounding the next CYL banner. All three non-original characters have had alts since the vote, so it isn't like we've been starved of popular characters, and just because last year's had some top tier units doesn't mean the same applies again this year.

There's also the Danganronpa 3 anime as well, which acts as a conclusion to the 1+2 story. Even if you don't watch it it might be worth reading up on the plot to get the answers to unanswered questions and loose ends tied up.

V!Lilina is pretty good anti-meta with fairly minimal skill inheritance. Just give her Bowbreaker and she counters both Reinhardt and Brave Lyn.

Yeah, I echo that. If 50% of the 3DS alts were original characters from those games instead, the overall roster would be more or less spot on. Like it or not, Fates and Awakening having 40% of the representation in Heroes is merited; those are easily the most popular games, and IS is going to target where the money is.

Yeah, on first look I thought Walhart was pretty good, but in reality he isn't even as good as someone's Frederick project. Wolf Beil just isn't strong enough. I guess he at least has Chill Def though.

It's the most broken skill in the game. I think someone already explained what it does but it lets you act again after killing a unit. So like being danced without needing Olivia nearby. If two units who know it are paired up, they can act 3 times. It's a Dark Flier skill that can be passed down to kids.

Nah, I echo the 'do what you like' sentiment. Awakening on Casual Normal is about as gentle a Fire Emblem experience there is going, so just enjoy it without worrying about repercussions.

Prepare yourself for alot of Tharja defending and me apparently making horrible choices all of the time

Yeah, i thought so too. The way they explained it, story-wise, made sense and worked with the mechanics of the game.

...and then you have the way Fates handled it.

They kind of had to include the second gen character mechanic again in Fates after how popular it was in Awakening. The problem was they kind of backed themselves into a corner when trying to explain how it makes sense from a story perspective. Playing it off as time travel again is arguably even worse than the nonsense 'kids kept in superfast pocket dimension' justification that we got, but on balance they're pleasing more people by including the waifu sim than they're upsetting plot nitpickers.

It's funny how you just seem to get runs of good/bad IVs on some characters. Nearly all of the Hectors I've ever pulled have been +Spd, but the other day when pulling on the Ylisse banner I got a second Karla - +Spd -Def. I was perfectly fine with the +Atk -HP one!

Well I mean, the Grandmaster challenges are just Fire Emblem-themed puzzles. I like puzzles, so I spent the time (with more than a little trial and error) to figure them out. They have very specific solutions, but there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

To try to answer the original question, based on what you liked of Awakening, Fates is, at worst, more of the same on an aesthetic and superficiality level. I personally think it's a slight upgrade on Awakening with the addition of the between levels hub-world and other extended character interactivity. If pairing characters up is what you find most enjoyable, Birthright is a lot more lenient with the unlimited skirmishes it throws at you to build up support ranks. Conquest is a lot more traditional in that regard. I'd recommend just looking up the respective casts beforehand and seeing who you like the look of the most.

I could probably run 4 fully decked out flier teams by this point, one of which being Camilla Emblem. Speaking of which, I had 80 orbs to try getting summer Camilla with after picking up the July orb deal, and managed it with the very last 4 orbs, thankfully. +Spd -Res too.

Man, Tiki is basically Legendary Robin but better. Her stats are essentially the same but with trainee boost padding. The other units powercreeping ones from a year ago is one thing, but F!Grima is only a few months old and is supposed to be a legendary unit to boot!

It's my first original Hector, yeah. I've pulled 3 LA!Hector's (all +Spd "lol"), and got a +Atk Legendary Hector as well though.

I'd say there are a handful of aberrations in there; a few early exits and niche survivors into the later rounds, but generally the board favourites have found their way towards the top of the list, and besides, it's no more peculiar than your average Save My contest.

I can't say I'm going to miss having to put up rounds every evening and keep votals updated for the last few months, but it was still a contest worthwhile running with a satisfying conclusion. I lay no claim to running any and all future iterations of this contest, if indeed there are any. If someone else would like to run it next year, they're more than welcome to. Given she's an infantry archer like she is in-game, it wouldn't surprise me if this is the only version of Noire we ever get. If her voice lines are anything like they are in Awakening though she has the potential to be incredible.
