Lopen 12/17/11 11:30:00 PM #9 |
I think a horde of Smiths could deal with the high end ones easily, so if he bolstered his numbers on the lesser ones first it wouldn't be tough, and he's probably fast enough to do it. I'd also think they're living because the name soil of genesis is like... screaming "alive" to me.
The reabsorption thing could be interpreted in a few ways. One is that they don't reabsorb because Smith doesn't technically kill them, so they don't hit that step where they'd reabsorb. Another is that Smith wrenches control of them and they aren't able to reabsorb. Another is that they reabsorb still under Smith's control and Smith is able to do a Matrix Revolutions Neo against nrvnqsr from in there. Another is that the guy takes them back and takes control back. If there's no real evidence either way I personally like one of the first two theories. -- No problem! Not sure what's funny, there! Obviously when I say lurk I don't mean just lurk because I'm talking from the perspective of a good player but you can pretty much auto-pilot post to the point where it takes no effort as scum if the radar isn't on you.

As scum I'll probably read like 25% of the posts.
As town I'll read 75% or so, though not all of them closely. If you're playing town and only reading 25% you're a bad player I think. Of course Chris is the definition of "gets into a back and forth for an hour" so I'm not really sure he's saving much time anyway-- hell he's probably making 25% of the posts. Basically it goes as scum posting takes more effort (if you're pinned, anyway-- otherwise you can just lurk a lot), as town reading takes more effort. That's how I find it. In any case it's definitely a big waste of time even if you're slacking-- and a bigger waste of time if you're good. Regular mafia players should lose the right to "life" insults imhhho. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Lopen 12/17/11 10:42:00 PM #210 | From: UItimaterializer | #195 Mafia is a huge timesink if you want to play well. Way too much crap to read-- and you have to read it by like... you know, looking for contradictions and crap, and then word your posts in such a way that you're convincing and not scummy-- but not too clean either, otherwise people call you scummy because you're being too careful. Reading mafia posts and posting mafia posts takes longer than normal posting by a lot. And then sometimes you get caught in a back and forth for like an hour and you can claim you were multitasking but how much were you really? If you don't have 100% free time and have an active social life on top of that (and perhaps a hobby/something else on top of that that you don't want to just push aside) it's pretty hard to find time to play in many mafia games. For me, anyway. Obviously, you can just phone it in and blow like 20 minutes on it in a day and be done, but yeah. Early days especially, that thing can rob you of many hours. Mafia is the biggest message board timesink there is. By a good deal more than geeking out over contests, I think. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

People don't think it's good, on the whole. The reason reviews on this site are skewed towards positive scores is because of "who's bothering to rate this" bias.
Realize: - Battletoads came out before this site was founded, so people won't casually play it and drop a rating. - Battletoads is not from a popular franchise, so people who've disliked it won't go out of their way to rate it. - Battletoads is not terrible, so people in the mood for rating an old bad game won't immediately think of it. So what you're left with are the people who are big fans of the old game, generally, meaning you're stuck with good reviews. The 1s and 2s that would be there for a really bad game aren't there cause it's not that bad, and the 4s, 5s, and 6s of "meh" games that it'd get if it was current aren't there because people don't generally have the urge to write a review for a 4 5 or 6 game. So you're left with the fanboys, basically, and its scores are high. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Sephiroth there presumably adds a lot more than Ganondorf, considering Cloud/Seph is a 55-45 match. It'd be silly to assume everyone who would vote for/against Cloud in a given match doesn't flip their vote if Seph's there. So if you think this is a character battle through and through you should expect Cloud to have a good chance.
I'm saying it's a series contest for a lot more than the trainers. Blowouts from the fighting game guys, new pairings doing poorly, Donkey Kong looking respectable. There are a lot of results that make more sense if you think of it as a series contest more than a character contest or even "rivalry factor" -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I dislike 4. I know what they're trying to do but it's not executed well-- particularly for Link and Cloud's side where Cloud's head utterly dwarfs Link's. There was a much better version of this pic with just Link and Cloud in a previous contest I believe.

Lopen 12/17/11 8:41:00 PM #155 | From: vcharon | #151 Uh... it's pretty clear that this contest doesn't work that way. Otherwise Cloud would beat Link. Among other results that haven't happened. I'm taking this contest to be more like a series contest with a twist than a character contest, based on how results have gone. Super Mario Bros as a series is really close to Final Fantasy as a series, and would beat FF7 alone, so yeah. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

I don't think Mario/Bowser will get SFFed, and I think they're a stronger pairing than Cloud/Seph.
I don't think Super Mario Bros would've been SFFed by Legend of Zelda in the series contest either. Hell I think Link's ability to SFF Mario is exaggerated in the first place-- Link beats Mario by a boatload because he's a lot stronger for the most part, not due to huge amounts of SFF. -- No problem! Yeah if you think the early voters are utterly stupid, which is fair, there is pretty much no reason to assume that Cloud and Sephiroth have any chance of choking it away if they're winning at the freeze.
I expect them to be at like... low 440s at the freeze, though (and end up 4th on the x-stats), so yeah, doesn't really help. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Like I said it could happen with a strong upset vote-- I kinda expect Cloud and Seph to drop from the freeze with the second update this time. (But still increase overall, meaning they'll still win if they're leading at the freeze) Maybe I'm overestimating how smart early voters are though.

Lopen 12/17/11 8:23:00 PM #132 |
Well, one reason for Cloud and Seph to be winning at the freeze is their pairing is just plain stronger, meaning they'll win all the other blocks too, but there is something to be said for what vcharon's saying too-- I could certainly see Cloud and Seph winning the board vote by a bit and then losing if people were fiending for an upset that much but I don't see that happening.
Looking unlikely that they will be stronger at this point, but strangely, not because of their respective matches-- I don't think Cloud and Seph have looked much worse at all than Link-- but just the contest results as a whole. -- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Link needs to be at like... 53% or less to think Cloud and Seph have a shot. I think the early vote is going to go more Cloud/Seph than usual just because people are starting to fiend for an upset.
