Okay scouring my brain I can actually get up to 6.
4 Way vs Brock
Nakamura/Jinder
AJ/Owens w/ Shane as Ref
Natalya vs Naomi
Alexa vs TBD on Raw IIRC (previously Bayley)
Orton vs Rusev

Then I have a few that I'm just guessing on based on feuds
Usos vs New Day
Big Cass vs Big Show
Ambrose/Rollins vs Sheamus/Cesaro

So it's not quite as bleak as initially thought

Does anyone else feel like Smackdown should be longer?

I know, I know. Fuck long shows. I totally understand. But every week on Smackdown, they just have something disappearing. Like what happened to Aiden English this week? What happened to Mike & Maria vs Sami Zayn? Where was Nakamura? Where was Gable? Where was Becky? Sometimes Fashion Police is missing. Sometimes Lana/Tamina is missing. For the longest time even Tye Dillinger was missing. Where have the Hype Bros been after Zack Ryder came back? Where are Harper and Rowan? Dolph Ziggler is missing too.

No, and I'm glad every person doesn't show up every week. That's part of why Smackdown is better. It makes the shows not feel like the same thing every week.

Imagine if in every episode of Breaking Bad they shoehorned every single character in the show into a at least one segment every week. I mean obviously there are your main eventers Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, etc etc who you expect to see every week, but as much as I love Huell or even Saul tossing them into the episode every time wouldn't really make sense or make the show better.

The big difference is in a failed okizeme check you generally eat a ton of damage and immediately get set up for another choice that if you screw up can lead to getting drilled hard again. In smash if you read wrong you get hit again for a relatively much smaller amount of damage, which generally leads to another way out of it before taking another smaller chunk of damage. Whether this is better or worse is up to you but it does make poking relatively stronger as a viable damage option, which in turn makes the game more defensive.

So yeah I'd call it closer to zoning in function, personally.

I actually feel like keeping enemies in the air in Smash is more like a combo or zoning (depending on damage percentages) in a more traditional fighter and that Smash has no real equivalent to okizeme, which is inherently part of what makes the game more defensive by nature.

It's crazy enough to give defense an inherent and significant edge in the game mechanics where it doesn't in most fighters imo, particularly when considering cornering a guy is not really a thing that's as viable given the amount of space there is to work with.

You need to react to the downed guy correctly to keep the offense going, in most fighters the downed guy needs to correctly react to you to keep the offense from continuing if you're playing offensively. So it's just easier to play defensively in general whereas in most fighters it's more neutral in that regard.

Like if you want an example of actual defensive projectile game in Marvel 3 it's not Morrigan.

It's like MODOK or Arthur or Rocket. These are guys who can harass you at full screen yet can do so with low enough recovery times and/or enough traps in play that you're given options to get in but it's not usually going to work. Which I mean, this can work-- people have made it work, but it's not exactly something that's popular or inherently strong either because yeah mobility is just so strong in Marvel 3.

Most fighters don't have you literally block locked from projectile strings is the difference. It's just not usually something that's viable in the system. A Morrigan who's doing her thing right isn't actually needing to "run away." It's if they screwed up that you need to run away-- and oftentime that isn't happening either because the Morrigan's projectile grid requires so much investment that if it's broken through you often got punished directly for it. It's not really that safe despite being full screen with all of Marvel's mobility options, and full screen attack options-- if you screw it up you're likely getting hit for it, or in a position where your opponent is immediately putting heavy pressure on you.

Defensive play is more like, in SF4, putting down fireballs for mild chip as a neutral option while keeping your distance. It's something you can't really punish because even if you don't time it right, they can't really get in on you very easily as a punish. Generally the "punishment" for screwing projectiles in that game is them closing the distance on you a bit more and then getting in a range they can actually punish you. And Smash is even worse in this regard than SF4. That's the difference.

I think you're confusing "integrates pressure from long range" with "defense." Playing Morrigan "defensively" isn't actually very good. Ideally you're putting fireballs in such a way where chip damage is forced, whenever the good Morrigan players have a dude in a position where they're fireball spamming in a way that you can actually escape it they're not usually doing too well and it's a desperation thing. Marvel's all about putting stupid damage fields down so when the guy is getting up he has to be blocking and can't hit you back and you're basically trying to screw his blocking up.

The difference is in Marvel games the fireball patterns are so stupid that you can actually do offensive projectiles whereas in something like Smash you're not actually going to kill a dude with this kinda stuff without them screwing up.

I wouldn't really agree defensive play is "pretty much always better" than offense in fighters. It really largely depends on how many options there are available to you when the other guy is down, and the overall speed of the game. Stuff like Smash has almost nothing for you to do after knocking an opponent down, so defense crushes offense. Stuff like Marvel has all sorts of traps built into the movesets and the assist system, so I would argue being on the offense is actually better in that game in general.

Yeah it's +10 to level 70, +5 to level 90, +2 to level 100.

Also I didn't know grails were so rare. I guess that's another reason to prioritize a 5* unit or two, because with Kojirou eating 10 grails I'm not gonna have a lot left. Even more problematic because I probably wanna use Medea and Medusa who are base 3*. I can't even get all of them to 100 if we have 20 grails. I guess I'll prioritize getting all to 90 first.

I feel there's a certain mindset behind people who are playing a game competitively that was both never really meant to be played that way (causing a lot of particularly degenerate strategies that most would not find fun to execute to become the norm for it) and was released over 15 years ago now.

To me it just seems like expected that yeah you're going to see a higher concentration of weird people there, on average. That doesn't mean there aren't perfectly well adjusted Smash scenes, but the Smash scene just has a lot more of these stories and I don't think it's because of any sort of reporting bias or even because the scene is bigger to any significant degree-- to me it just makes sense. I'd expect the same thing out of like, Primal Rage or Brutal Paws of Fury tournaments, if they were a thing.

Archer's one of those shows where I enjoy it, a lot even, but I can't watch all that much of it at once. Something about the particular blend of stupid comedy on that show grates on me after a while. Just watch an episode or two a day and I'm good-- could never ever marathon it though.

And yeah Avatar really surprised me. I sorta watched a few episodes of it assuming I wouldn't like it just to "give it a shot" but it ended up really good. I probably wouldn't rate it quite this high, as to me it's basically like a westernized anime in quality, which while I'm not a total weeaboo gives it a lot of competition among just animated shows, never mind the live action, but it's really good.

Just because you don't come out and say "Dangerous Ariana is a joke character" it doesn't mean you're not heavily implying it with things like "people who nominated her haven't even played her game" (again, you know this how?) or "people are only nominating her because she's Ariana Grande." You can say you have no problem with her, but it doesn't wash. You do have a problem with her-- you're just not saying it outright.

And yeah I'll admit it I gave you a lot of crap about the FFX job squad last year. Luckily some were booted-- and so this year I didn't really give you any real focused crap about it though-- just pointed out how outrageous and humorous the last save was-- you took it personally as is your right to do, but you know that I'm being honest with you, when I say I wasn't making any sort of affront to you personally and this is mostly you projecting last year onto this year.

I mean heck I've said Vayne was a black hole of charisma, and he is, but I actually haven't called him a jobber nor even called him a "pet character." I mean at least this is a relevant character that only you like, so I can respect it in some way. I mean if it came down to him vs Terra or him vs Rinoa, I'll side with The Night Hunter every time.

Also Dangerous Ariana actually has more substance in her game than most of these FFX characters I'm judging you for, for the record. You'd know this if you'd actually played the game. So I mean, yeah, you are judging Ariana supporters for the same thing I'm judging you for. That's always been my mindset. There are many many worse characters here than these random FFX jobbers.

But if a dude is being a hypocrite (claims FFD has a drone army, proceeds to amass a circlejerk trading clique to limp a bunch of pet characters through-- judges people for saving joke characters and makes a huge fuss about them, then gets upset when I call his 'well developed characters' jokes) I point it out.

You want me to stop "harassing" you the solution is really quite simple. Practice what you preach. Otherwise I'll keep pointing out ironies in what I see from you, and you'll keep taking it as harassment rather than me just making observations.

I have no idea what the deleted wall of text said but I'll tell you the difference between your saves vcharon and Dante's.

You
- Save characters that would be considered a joke to most everyone but the most devoted fans
- Do so at the expense of characters that I don't even think you like more than them, from the same game
- Actively draw others who are fans of that game to your cause of saving characters with trades and deals, because there's no other way they can survive boots
- Try to nominate more of these characters into the field while you're already at critical mass for how many you can support
- Do all this while keeping a straight face about judging others for supporting "joke characters"

Dante
- Saves joke characters
- Likes joke characters
- Doesn't take this contest 1/20 as seriously as you do

I don't see the similarity
