I know only the first three games star Phoenix, and then there are more games about another guy, and a girl, and Edgeworth, right?

it gets complicated after the original trilogy

You have Apollo Justice, the two Edgeworth games, and then the two most recent AA games

then there's also a two-part spinoff that was only ever released in Japan starring Phoenix's ancestor

Yeah, I haven't played in a few weeks. I think the last power-up I got was the dash. I'm supposed to go to the Ginso Tree next. The game keeps showing me stompable floors on the map so I'm wondering if maybe I missed that or something.

oh there we go I think I figured it out

Also I'm playing Ori and the Blind Forest again. The lack of clear direction in these style of games is kind of frustrating because I feel like I'm just aimlessly wandering around hoping I don't miss the cue to find the next area.

At this point, I'd be stunned if Phoenix got into Smash. The most recent game was released in 2016 and there isn't a new game on the horizon. Plus, the series is still pretty niche.

Yeah, the second season only covering the third game gave the anime a little room to breathe and adapt them a little more fully. Most of those cases get handled pretty well.

Is there a Phoenix Wright anime?

Yep, and it covers the first three games (with a few anime-exclusive episodes, to boot!). The first season covers the first two games, and the second season covers the third game (and has a lot of anime-exclusive content to pad the run time). It's kind of hit or miss, but I enjoyed it. It did make some minor improvements here and there, but they obviously have to cut a lot of content.

actually now that I think about it 2-2 might have been the best adaptation the anime did

Oh right, Star Wars rankings. I need to finish those.

#4. Episode IV: A New Hope

The Good: It's the sci-fi version of the hero's journey! What's not to like? You've got a strong cast of characters with both the good guys and the bad guys (Tarkin is an underrated villain). The dynamic between Luke, Han, and Leia just immediately works. Obi-Wan is a great mentor character. I like seeing the interactions between those who believe in the Force and those who don't, and you can see it with the good guys and the bad guys. There are so many fun moments throughout. It just oozes charm from start to finish. It's an incredibly quotable movie, too (just check out how many tropes on TVTropes are references to Episode IV!). It's hard not to like it (although apparently some people here have managed to pull it off...!).

The Bad: I mean, it's a movie made in 1977, so it shows its age in certain areas, especially if you watch the original instead of the updated versions that try to cover some of those things up. The lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader is a little rough. I still have no idea what Obi-Wan's lightsaber is doing in certain parts of that fight! We've never seen another lightsaber do that, so I can't tell if he was doing that on purpose or if it was malfunctioning somehow!

The Best: The space battle over the Death Star is just so good. You have the trench run, with Han Solo coming back in right as it seems all hope is lost. You have Luke finally learning to trust the Force and making the impossible shot to destroy the Death Star. You have the tension the entire time of the Death Star slowly getting into range of the rebel base. Also, the medal ceremony afterwards is cool, but the star of that scene is the music. I love that song so much. Might be the best Star Wars track, and that's saying a lot!

Lorenz is great! He's like the Steiner of Three Houses. If you take everything he says at face value, he's incredibly unlikable, but if you take him as an over the top satire of a stuffy nobleman, he's hilarious.

Lysithea is cool, but she's a little too...childish for me sometimes.

Golden Deer route complete! That last battle was really cool. So much lore coming together! While I think I enjoyed the Blue Lions arc more just because it was so character-centric and the cast is so strong, if you only had one playthrough to spend on Three Houses, Golden Deer is probably the one since it offers so many answers.

As for all the pairings:

Byleth/Marianne
Ferdinand/Dorothea
Felix/Annette
Hilda/Seteth
Raphael/Ignatz (although he technically married Raphael's sister)
Lorenz/Lysithea
Claude/Ingrid

Not sure when I'll get around to a Black Eagles run. It'll probably be a little while though!

Golden Deer rankings: Claude > Marianne > Lorenz > Lysithea > Hilda > Raphael > Leonie > Ignatz
Blue Lions rankings: Felix > Dedue > Dimitri > Ashe > Mercedes > Annette > Ingrid > Sylvain
Church of Seiros rankings: Flayn > Seteth > Rhea > Shamir > Catherine > Hanneman > Cyril > Manuela

Doesn't feel fair to rank the Black Eagles yet, so I'll abstain. Not sure what I should do about the female character rankings, but I feel pretty strongly that Petra will probably end up my favorite either way, but yeah.
