Golden Deer route complete! That last battle was really cool. So much lore coming together! While I think I enjoyed the Blue Lions arc more just because it was so character-centric and the cast is so strong, if you only had one playthrough to spend on Three Houses, Golden Deer is probably the one since it offers so many answers.

As for all the pairings:

Byleth/Marianne
Ferdinand/Dorothea
Felix/Annette
Hilda/Seteth
Raphael/Ignatz (although he technically married Raphael's sister)
Lorenz/Lysithea
Claude/Ingrid

Not sure when I'll get around to a Black Eagles run. It'll probably be a little while though!

Golden Deer rankings: Claude > Marianne > Lorenz > Lysithea > Hilda > Raphael > Leonie > Ignatz
Blue Lions rankings: Felix > Dedue > Dimitri > Ashe > Mercedes > Annette > Ingrid > Sylvain
Church of Seiros rankings: Flayn > Seteth > Rhea > Shamir > Catherine > Hanneman > Cyril > Manuela

Doesn't feel fair to rank the Black Eagles yet, so I'll abstain. Not sure what I should do about the female character rankings, but I feel pretty strongly that Petra will probably end up my favorite either way, but yeah.

Lysithea and Shamir too low. Marianne, Lorenz too high but obviously I viewed them from a Black Eagles perspective.

Lorenz is great! He's like the Steiner of Three Houses. If you take everything he says at face value, he's incredibly unlikable, but if you take him as an over the top satire of a stuffy nobleman, he's hilarious.

Lysithea is cool, but she's a little too...childish for me sometimes.

I think it depends on which side of Lysithea you see. There's the one in supports like Felix which yeah not that great. But then there's the more serious ones like Hanneman, Linhardt, or Edelgard (obviously this one you wouldn't have access to) where she's a lot better.

As for Lorenz, eh, maybe. Like I said, I only really saw him through the lens of the Black Eagles (and Byleth supports) so I'm sure there's plenty more I'd see on Golden Deer.

I think her support with Felix is actually kind of sweet (pun intended). She just spends so much time getting mad at people for treating her like a child. She usually gets better by the end of the support, but yeah.

Oh right, Star Wars rankings. I need to finish those.

#4. Episode IV: A New Hope

The Good: It's the sci-fi version of the hero's journey! What's not to like? You've got a strong cast of characters with both the good guys and the bad guys (Tarkin is an underrated villain). The dynamic between Luke, Han, and Leia just immediately works. Obi-Wan is a great mentor character. I like seeing the interactions between those who believe in the Force and those who don't, and you can see it with the good guys and the bad guys. There are so many fun moments throughout. It just oozes charm from start to finish. It's an incredibly quotable movie, too (just check out how many tropes on TVTropes are references to Episode IV!). It's hard not to like it (although apparently some people here have managed to pull it off...!).

The Bad: I mean, it's a movie made in 1977, so it shows its age in certain areas, especially if you watch the original instead of the updated versions that try to cover some of those things up. The lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader is a little rough. I still have no idea what Obi-Wan's lightsaber is doing in certain parts of that fight! We've never seen another lightsaber do that, so I can't tell if he was doing that on purpose or if it was malfunctioning somehow!

The Best: The space battle over the Death Star is just so good. You have the trench run, with Han Solo coming back in right as it seems all hope is lost. You have Luke finally learning to trust the Force and making the impossible shot to destroy the Death Star. You have the tension the entire time of the Death Star slowly getting into range of the rebel base. Also, the medal ceremony afterwards is cool, but the star of that scene is the music. I love that song so much. Might be the best Star Wars track, and that's saying a lot!

#3. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

The Good: Yes, I am a big fan of this movie! It has its flaws (which we'll get to shortly!), but I think the strengths outweigh the weaknesses. I liked the fact that they made Rey a nobody. It shows that the Force isn't tied down to bloodlines, heritage, a particular group like the Jedi, or anything. I think Luke did a good job of pointing out the inherent problems with the Jedi Order, and Yoda really drove the point home. Speaking of Yoda, his cameo was perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the entire sequel trilogy. I never expected him to show up again, and I loved it. Also, the lightspeed ram was legit great. I didn't like Holdo as a character at all, but she more than made up for it with that tactic.

The Bad: Honestly, The Last Jedi is probably longer than it needed to be. The slow speed space chase is largely uninteresting, and the Finn/Rose sidequest feels like unnecessary filler (although BB-8 is great during this part), especially since they end up doing nothing with the Code Breaker in Episode IX. The Poe/Holdo standoff feels like it could've been avoided entirely with a simple explanation. I mean, Poe is still in the wrong for being insubordinate, too, but communication solves most problems! Also, how horribly impractical are those bomber things at the beginning of the movie? That's the real nonsensical aspect of Episode VIII...!

The Best: The Luke/Rey/Kylo dynamic is so good. I get the complaints that Luke felt out of character, but the dude felt like a complete failure for screwing up Ben (Mark Hamill's delivery on, "Leia trusted me...with her son," is really well acted. You can really feel the emotion in his voice). It reminds me of Cloud in Advent Children a bit where people seem to act like character regression can never be a thing, but it makes sense for me, albeit maybe he took it to too much of an extreme. Also, Luke trolling Kylo with the Force projection at the end was an A+ moment. It made me want him to come back in Episode IX as a Force Ghost just to troll Kylo some more. Also, the fight in the throne room where Rey and Kylo team up after he kills Snoke was really fun. It's one of my favorite big fight scenes in the series.

TLJ Luke obviously played KotOR II during the timeskip and took its commentary to heart. best kotor game stays winning.

But yeah, TLJ was great! surprise darth yoda burning down the jedi temple. The Rey/Kylo/Snoke Throne Room scenes (both with Snoke alive and the the fight after) were excellent. As was Force Illusion Luke trolling Kylo at the end.

I guess the closest thing I may have had to a criticism was the SERIOUS BUSINESS of the Rey/Finn ship taking some heavy incoming fire from both sides.

I watched the second episode of Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated. Yeah, it's a fun show with some lowbrow adult humor in it since I'm sure they figured some of their core audience would be adults who grew up watching the original.

Also, I was going to try to start up Dragon Ball again, but the Funimation app wouldn't cooperate. Another night then!

Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated Episode 3 complete!

It's kind of strange that Fred is kind of a generic everyman in the original show, but spinoff cartoons like this one (and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo) have really fleshed out his personality by taking one of his traits to the extreme. In this show, it's his penchant for trap making, and in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, it was the fact that he (and the rest of the gang) could never figure out who the culprit was until they unmasked them.
