Huh, Everglow finally got another win in the longest time.

Sure enough they were timed right after the Itzy/NCT comebacks, but long grind for them and I felt they were really stretching out their last 2 promotions to try to win somewhere. They seemingly never gave any of their performances any lazy/dwindling effort either.

I'm basically...here for it. The songs may not really stand the test of time (so far I can't say any will sit as my all time favorites), but I think the (outrageous) concept can stick, especially if SM does follow up with an actual app (and if that takes off). This stuff seems mega sleazy to our generation perhaps, but a connection between music, the virtual/avatar segment, and social media is something that very much explorable. And I think that's what early critics were missing. K'Da is tied more towards a game where Aespa seemingly is going to try something broader and standalone. But already, the K'Da concept and stuff like Post Malone having in-game (Pokemon) concerts have kinda got the ball rolling.

It is indeed weirder that Aespa literally sings about this weird crap, and I am personally annoyed as hell we don't seem to have anything resembling a live vocal performance of sorts (on radio shows it seems like they can sing). But I think the makeup of their aesthetic, branding, and talent can do a lot. There's so much uncertainty, but at the same time they've given a solid impression of being put together pretty well. It's so timely they come up in the "COVID era" where they don't even have to do a live tour anywhere.

I think to a lot of western audiences, this isn't overly impressive. Lyrically it's still a step above many other English K-Pop songs, but I think the required perspective is just knowing what it took to get this product. Concept and execution. Every member's pronunciation has improved. Meanwhile most stateside artists will never feel the need to figure out another language.

They're gonna pop 100m views 24hrs. Sheesh.

Especially with the captions on its like hfs they're really into this Kangwa Navis nonsense.

But this has been a long drawn out agenda by SM. Even the not so secret fact they opted to have a remake of a song on their comeback schedule. Not to sound overly optimistic, but they were probably prepared for this...confusing reception.

I guess credit where it's due. No other artists are doing... this. Taste is one thing but they're seemingly very invested in the execution. It's so over the top.

tbh that logo is a bit goofy imo, even the previous styles. Highly doubt Yena was added, but that would be cool.
And the Antarctica references they've stuck to for the previous 2 comebacks don't really do much for me.

But looking forward to it. I feel like they're "almost there" when it comes to a complete product.

That seemed very reminiscent to NCT's "Gimmie Gimmie". The verses flow very similarly.

JYP has been called out for copying/biting, but I'd like to think this is a coincidence unless they pulled this together in like ~2 months. Either way, I do like how they executed it. Hook isn't where I'd go with it, but everything else, I like.

"Kidding Me" is my fav track on the album.

Eh with the song for my tastes, as with a lot of Twice songs. It's a bit hollow because the question looms again on how well that really goes live. But no point dwelling on that. That's the formula they're sticking with and it hasn't failed them yet.

I think in more recent videos and singles, it stands out to me Chae's stylist has stepped up, and she herself been really good with all the subtle expressions on her parts.

Baekhyun's been well on top of applying himself to R&B. Like it's one thing to do what Rain and JYP did to have some kind of token NJS sound that's really just more pop in the end, but another to actually be true to the sound.

I really dislike how this is being explored in all kinds of avenues.
When it comes to music, I think Vocaloid is far enough. At least it seems there's more mind in how to play with the quality of the sound.

Revisiting IZ*ONE. I couldn't enjoy them much due to the push for higher pitches as with many female Asian pop groups.

"Panorama" and "D-D-Dance" were nice shifts in sound. Will be looking out for Yena, who incidentally had some of her best moments on those tracks. Everglow might be too much of a crowd as Onda already never gets lines, but if writers get it together and decide to stretch songs as well (all of them feel a bit short), Yena can add so much to that group as a higher pitch and rap lines. Her dancing is already incredible. The versatility in her looks is also noteworthy.

That's not to say the rest of the members don't deserve recognition. That's sorta my peeve with larger groups. It's hard to give everyone the proper spotlight. But I do see why this group is gonna be missed. They seem to hold their own live, and I guess the nature of the Produce talent does this bringing together the talent but understandably the disbandment as well since there's a lot of moving parts with each member's respective labels and contracts.

Side note, I know it's totally not happening, but would've been cool if Chaeyeon could find her way back to JYP and join Itzy. She looks so much like her sister.

Don't want to wear out sounding like a hater with BP-related stuff but:

-Softer background instrumental makes it more apparent that the chorus/hook is a bit dead-feeling. Although there are other names (with considerable resumes, at that) behind the track with him, and Ros was involved with writing, it really does sound like this is another doing of a Teddy production. It's been old and it wasn't for the immense popularity of the performer herself, this should be going nowhere.

-The M/V could've benefitted from choreography clips imo, especially the work on the first chorus.

"Gone" sticks better for me. The acoustic approach leaves a song that can live with just her vocals.

I'm not sure if the direction of the M/V visuals really do anything for me. I mean I have the general idea of what it's trying to push, but I didn't think it was necessarily compelling.

I do like she gets to be in this kind of light. I think the language barrier can open some doors and if we placed her in western mainstream it's an interesting fit.

New Way V single is kinda cool imo. Sounds like their popularity is ironically going to be mainly outside of China. I think their choreography tops a lot of 127 and Dream's stuff, and the vocal line is up there too. Just lyrically they seem too....vague.
