I seriously melted when I saw Mina and Sana. Not only because they were my favs but also because the styling was one of the best that I have ever seen in a Twice MV. They looked incredibly good.

As someone who is a bit distant from stanning Twice....I swear.

I feel like this group has been carrying a slightly higher level of...sophistication that doesn't have the immediate grab as most successful artists do. As of late their songs don't really escalate or have compelling dynamics, as if the high notes are purposely toned down although they exist. Heavy member count also makes it hard for me to be engaged.

But I like how they sound. Their formation was pretty cool with the introduction via solos and subunits.

live vocals is a weird subject, especially with COVID isolating and pre-recording performances. Sometimes I'm convinced it's just an exercise of adding an additional vocal overlay, and then to some extent it's like, does it matter at this point when no one's around to hear it live?

Without the backup dancers, the second chorus looks a little bland for Sihyeon's segment, not to mention she's awkwardly upstage. Overall I feel like they should have more liberty with isolation and leeway to execute vocals.

What I've been peeved about so far with the performances is I think only one was convincingly life vocals, but even then they don't perform the most of the ad-libs at the end when it seems like they surely could. This kinda annoyed me with Itzy too when Chaeryeong didn't really do the "Itzyyyyyyyyyy" live.

I'm wondering how strongly people in South Korea have a problem with Yuehua.

It's just weird that "Dun Dun" got no wins iirc even though that was far and away Everglow's most popular single, but "Adios" did...and I think at that time, competition was stiffer.

Very fascinating to see something from Music Bank so long ago, and how it's somewhat in line with Hip-Hop/R&B of that era (on some instances, non-US countries can be a generation "behind").

All I knew at that time was mainly whatever was on like, Disney Channel, and the Will Smith albums. I was in 2nd grade, so this was a major stretch to ever be exposed to.

I get the bother about forcing western appeal. It kinda annoys me when a stateside network wants to get the jump on the next BTS single just because it's "trendy" to them.

For the artists, though, it opens new doors they deserve. For a lot of people, being in America is still a real goal. BP and BTS have been doing this really well, at that. It's not like SM and their awful English versions of existing tracks.

*giving an album a listen:
'Love to Hate Me' more English Jisoo lines. I think the chorus is a bit flat but I liked how the verses were arranged. This is one of my fav tracks on the album, and not to make it a directed slight, but Teddy wasn't on this. Song is shorter than it sounds imo. Kinda good thing, like it accomplishes a lot with less.

'Bet You Wanna (ft. Cardi B)' more English Jisoo lines. I'm so-so with this one. It's not bad, and better than just being filler.
'You Never Know' decent
'Pretty Savage' meh. one of those flex songs. Didn't need this on the album. Imo only the BTS rap line has been good at stuff like this.
'Crazy Over You' has a similar cut into the hook like 'Ddu-Du Ddu Du'. I hate that although the pre-hook is nice.

Overall this is more rounded and complete vs. what I expected. I mean I was expecting some kind of insulting re-package of past singles. This actually feels like they're moving on from that and there was an honest effort at an album.

Did a listen though the album. This definitely was better than their previous work as a whole. The two stages they just did looked great, but I need to hear a definite love vocal.

Otherwise I think the production team did great here. They took the synthwave elements without it being like "hey are we trendy now??". Songs come into their own.

I haven't had a travel bug for like ever, and still now I don't prioritize the investment, but this kinda poked at me a bit and not because of ITZY, but the producers here made a pretty good ad.

Been watching that, the practices and performances.
I wouldn't jump to saying this is the best thing evar, but it was just very well put together imo. Seeing the body of work pulls me more away from how attractive they are (well, I don't really go that way since they're pretty young), and more towards the work they put out.

And not to make comparisons, but other recent girl group releases have been mad boring in comparison.

What seemed to be the least featured outfits in the M/V. Borderline early NCT weird for me, but if you isolated Chae/Yuna/Ryujin, they look just fancy imo.

I assume they only mashed two major cuts, but Ryujin's leg thing is too obvious lol.

Seems like the choreography was designed to be multi-directional vs. facing forward. The last singles were like that, and really good at that, but great they changed it up because now the panning camera serves as a more primary perspective.

The part where Ryujin goes into the "for a girl group" remarks, is what I think people being bad at phrasing things. Kinda like when someone is being bothered about "when you are getting a girlfriend or boyfriend?" It means well in the sense others are excited for them, but inadvertently can make that person feel like shit. Itzy does deserve recognition for not trying to fit a mold. It has taken girl groups longer to do that. It's beyond me how they're subjected to certain choreography in high heels.

Yuna without make up is night and day in depicting her age. If no one told me, I would've guessed she was 19 through very early 20's on stage.

As with any, I guess, child-bred professional, these people are fed so much information and principle to be brought up to speed and ahead. I do remark how professional they sound, but on the flipside, makes you wonder how much free-thought they were able to exercise, like if they were able to question what they were doing for a second vs. always being fixated on what would get them to succeed.

Case-in-point imo, Justin Beiber. Dude was like Usher and I guess Def Jam's puppet. In American culture that kid had so much shit thrown at him. Even the support he got probably misled him and I think he had mistrust come about in his family. Literal success was probably making life worse to a degree, and it just put him more in everyone's firing range. it's a lot of noise.

That's not to take scrutiny in Asia lightly, but I feel like American society would be more boundless in trying to tear apart a K-Pop artist. Haters here don't say things out of principal, or just by insecurity, but because they literally thrive on being the worst.

Itzy does look like they rely less on makeup and came that way out the box, but idol training and selection is exhausting.

JYP supposedly chooses character before aesthetic. Not to be a dick, but Chaeryong has big ears, Yeji noticeably angled eyes, and Lia long eyes. And really, that just makes them stand apart, because they are pretty people. Those are features that don't become the points of scrutiny, but really they shouldn't. The stylist team seems to have embraced that. It's a good image imo.

Compared to he first photo you linked it doesn't seem to be way off.

Jawlines can kinda change up even short term/temporarily. Older you get the trajectory is longer and narrower, unfortunately leading to teeth crowding.
