Is it also based on the manga?Yup it's from the manga as well but... The best way to describe it is like what happened to DBZ. Author has an ending in mind, popularity and editorial wanted a continuance. There's definitely a sharp decline in quality and some leaps in logic regarding some different characters' backstories. I support taking a nice long break after you finish the first section lol. |

Alright, here's the lead in: Headgear as you may know, consisted of Masami Yuki, Mamoru Oshii, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito and Akemi Takeda. Oshii had made his mark in anime already with Urusei Yatsura, Dallos and Angel's Egg. However, one year before Early Days, he'd made a radio drama called While Waiting for Red Spectacles, and a live action film titled The Red Spectacles. https://i.imgur.com/vSAw3AH.jpg These would lead to amongst other things, the live action sequel, Stray Dog, and the more popularly known anime film Jin-Roh. While the later titles were focused more on the name of the police unit, "Kerberos," the two Red Specs referred specifically to the visage of the protect gear which the unit wore. The lead role in the Red Specs film went to Shigeru Chiba (that's him in the trenchcoat up above), who had previously worked with Oshii on Urusei Yatsura. Patlabor was pretty good I haven't really gotten into mecha anime, or anime that's this classic aside from Legend of the Galactic Heroes, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it. It has a great cast and I'm looking forward to the movies and the reboot series.Nice, Patlabor is great fun. If you saw the OVA I have a little trivia to share. |

Out of interest I looked up to confirm how many episodes were legit filler, and surprisingly the count is pretty low at 21 total. Your assumption is on the mark, I won't spoil what's in store for Rei but he's one of the defining characters of Buronson/Hara's "glorious suffering" style. |
