Rewatching AoT and catching up with all I haven't seen yet. I'm halfway through s2 already. It's one of the best things when you find a show that just clicks with you, and you can just watch ep after ep. I've only ever watched the first two seasons, so the rest is all going to be new. Well, it goes back to pantaloons, and those are (seemingly) plural as well. So if you're going to solve the mystery, we need to go back farther.Pants<-pantaloons<-Pantalon (character in a Shakespeare play) who wore trousers instead of knee breaches. Which is where the word pants come from. But it's plural because "trousers" is plural trousers<-trouzes <-trouse <-triubus (Middle Irish) <- trebus (Old Irish)<- trebus (Old French)<- tubrucus (Late Latin) <- *breg- (to split, break) (Proto-Indo-European) So it looks like it's plural because it has always meant to be plural --- In the long run we are all dead |
