It just blows my mind why anyone would watch Fox News after they SETTLED a lawsuit for their defaming lies about Dominion?

Why would anyone go on Fox News for an interview or townhall after they got caught red-handed for lying. And if they do decide to go on, why don't they call them out on live television for their lies since their viewers probably son's even know about it.

Their lies should have tanked their viewership since any legitimacy that they had has disappeared since the settlement, not mentioning the other one that they're in as well.

And why the fuck did Dominion settle? Usually when someone settles, it usually means that fighting the lawsuit wouldn't have turned out good.

Maybe if the settlement was not only a cash payment, but also a public apology for their lies by Fox News and/or Tucker Carlson, then it would be different. But Dominion decided not to do that for whatever reason.

Cult mindsets require a dependency on not just any old familiar thing, but a familiar thing tied to a sense of belonging to a large group. The people who take Fox "seriously," take their own fears and anger as gospel, and Fox feeds those fears and anger about all things in the world. It's simple business and mental exploitation that holds the network's business afloat.

You're surprised that a political news outlet was inaccurate and untruthful? Really?

That is not even remotely close to true.

Settlements provide surety for both parties, which is why they're the preferred way to handle these disputes. Most cases never see the inside of a courtroom, because the parties will settle beforehand. That's not because one side or the other is doubtful about their chances in court, it's because they still have some control over the outcome there. Once you put a case in front of a judge or jury, you have no idea what's going to happen.

Keep in mind that this "settlement" was the single largest settlement whose amount is publicly known in US history (it's possible there may have been a larger one whose terms could not be disclosed, but that's unlikely), which suggests Fox knew they were sunk, else they would have more aggressively negotiated for a lower amount or taken their chances in court. And while it was only about half of what Dominion was asking for, that also doesn't really mean anything, because when you file a lawsuit you can ask for any amount you want - more than the amount of cash in circulation in the world, if you're so inclined. The amount of damages you claim has no relation to the actual damages you suffered or what you're likely to get, even if your case is successful, it's just a number you're putting on the forms to show how much you're asking for.

It is also fairly common for a smaller party to settle to avoid protracted legal battles. The fact that Dominion managed to get FOX to even somewhat admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement was fairly impressive, most settlements contain wording that the party doesn't admit to any wrongdoing.

The prevailing belief among the sort of people who took Fox News as gospel in the first place is that Fox was forced to admit guilt by the same massive conspiracy that kept Trump from taking power in the first place. Within that belief system, Fox isn't actually guilty and they didn't actually lie, they've just been victimized by a justice system that doesn't want the American people to know the truth.

Clearly, that was just a triumph of brave patriots who managed to overcome the conspiracy against him. After their bitter defeat in 2016, however, the conspirators redoubled their efforts and were able to overwhelm those brave patriots in 2020.

People watch Fox News BECAUSE they lie. They want people who will reinforce their preexisting world view. You're complaining about a news station that was created because some guy never wanted a conservative president to face fair news coverage like Nixon did.

No, I'm saying that Fox News is on the same side as every other news network. A comment I've heard a few times is that other networks tell you what they want you to think and Fox tells you what you are allowed to think. If other news networks are the center then Fox is on the fringe of it. Fox gets punished and discredited for not going along with the center but they ever go so far as to oppose it. They serve as an example and nothing more.

No, they got punished for committing defamation, by being sued by the company they defamed. Anyone that is harmed by fraudulent, defamatory news coverage can do the same, regardless of who's publishing it or where they fall on the political spectrum.

The tactics Fox uses are indistinguishable from any other news network. It's not a matter of 2 sides of the same coin. It's the same side of the coin.

This is the Dominion case, isn't it?
Was it proven that what was said was false?
Did they lose business because of what was said?
What I recall is that Fox settled out of court before going to trial. Which just further demonstrates to me that Fox never meant to oppose the center.

The thing about propaganda is, it works because the people don't realize they are ingesting propaganda.

Or to put it another way, if their viewers were capable of detecting lies and obvious bullshit, they wouldn't be watching Fox to begin with. Admitting you are a regular Fox viewer is tantamount to admitting to low intelligence/IQ.

I figured out at least nearly 25 years ago that Fox News seemed biased and might not reporting the news honestly. It seemed very obvious even back then.
