I find shirts to usually be the #1 best tool for cleaning glasses, although it depends on the shirt.

Also certain types of dirt will just get smeared by a dry shirt, so I hit the glasses with a sink faucet first first.

There are a couple specific old shirts next to my bathroom sink because I know they are perfect for cleaning glasses (I rotate em occasionally).

I find anything microfiber to be useless af.

I slightttttly prefer The Witness over Outer Wilds, mostly just because The Witness is more replayable. They're basically neck and neck in my top 10 though.

Outer Wilds certainly has a better story...but, The Witness does get me thinking introspectively in other ways.

~~~
Separately, I've had a question about Outer Wilds for a while, and I've been forgetting to ask people.
Is the Quantum Moon optional? Is it likely that many players beat the game without going there? I feel like yes, but I'm not sure.
If so, I kinda disagree with that design choice. I feel like that's a pretty big chunk of the game that you could "miss".
I mean, I get it: the point of the game is that you explore it because you WANT to, not because the game requires you to. ...But that's not entirely true--I mean, it DOES have an ending, and that ending DOES require you to go to a lot of specific places.
I need Mark Brown to make one of those key/door metroidvania diagrams for Outer Wilds.
I love Streetlight Manifesto and never even noticed that song is an instrumental. Probably because I always zone out for the second half of that album, I'm not crazy about that one.
Their "The Hand That Thieves" album is probably in my top 5 all time though.
~~~

Oh also here's the original Catch 22 version of Riding the Fourth Wave for comparison's sake (the songwriter Tomas Kalnoky is in both bands, the Streetlight version is a remake):

but everyone I know IRL who played the game (who like the game as much as I do (a lot!!)), did not finish the DLC, each person only got about 50% through.

Definitely finish the main game first, before doing the DLC.

Otherwise, the main game's ending won't be as impactful (because you were off doing the DLC for like 10-20 hours, and can't remember what the main game was about, as much).

Soundtracks with real instruments are worse. Especially ones with orchestras. Orchestras make everything sound blurry, vague, and weak.

Take for example, any Smash Bros Ultimate song that is a fancier real-instruments remake of a song from another game. The original game's song is better, every single time.

Another example, the original FF7 soundtrack, versus the FF7 remake. For any song that's in both games, the original PSX MIDI song is better, every single time. The fancier version is just messier and more complex for no benefit.

As a result, all soundtracks before ~2007 are better than pretty much all soundtracks after.

Yeah, probably the worst chapter.

I appreciate that pacing-wise it's a good idea at this point in the game, to just do a big combat dungeon with the Cloud/Barret/Tifa trio. But the previous chapter already solves that IMO.

You could probably just remove this chapter entirely and not affect the overall quality of the game whatsoever.

It's kind of cool looking and memorable though, so ideally I'd just make this chapter 75% shorter.

I especially love the Jesse's mom's house segment, especially how you don't know the plan, but Cloud does, and you hear Jesse's voice, in Cloud's short term memory, walking you through it as you do it, and each step is so unexpected. What happened to her dad is pretty good foreshadowing, I thought!

This conversation ran its course, but big BREAKING news on this topic today.

I just saw this overwatch hero tier list, on reddit, by Spilo, who is like a pro overwatch coach or something.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/10ag4j4/spilo_2023_ow2_tier_list_buff_nerf_or_rework/

Their top tier is literally "overtuned (OP)" and their third tier is "undertuned (weak)".

We've finally caught someone RED-HANDED using the word "overtuned" as a direct substitute for the word "overpowered".

Ladies and gentlemen, we got em

The comments are also a gold mine of using the word "overtuned" to mean "strong", regardless of if the character has been changed recently

These are the ones that first came to mind for me:

  • A Short Hike (like 90 minutes, first casual playthrough)
  • Sonic 1, 2, 3, CD, or Knuckles (like 2 hours each, right? for first casual playthrough?)
  • Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (about 3 hours, first casual playthrough)

All extremely good games!

I also wanna say Castlevania 1 but it depends so much on your skill at that sort of action game. Might be 1 hour, might be like 6 if you really get stuck at Death.

OH parameter specific, ok, I guess it would sound weird to say "this weapon's damage is overpowered" when all weapons do damage. You would probably wanna say "this weapon's damage is slightly too high", and I suppose you could say overtuned for that, to sound a little fancier.

I'll have to listen if people are actually using it that way. Maybe, people really are just getting more specific, about things they wanna complain about in video games.

They're different words

Overtuned means conceptually it's fine but the numbers aren't properly thought out so it's too strong.

Overpowered means the concept itself isn't something that can be balanced because it fundamentally won't work no matter how much you nerf the numbers.

Are you sure those aren't just definitions you invented to stop getting frustrated by this? Because how would I ever know that's what the person is trying to say... Overpowered has meant "the numbers are too big" for like, 25 years for me.

Who's fault is this. Everyone says "overtuned" every five seconds, when they mean "overpowered". It's all I hear on the internet anymore.

"Overpowered" was a perfectly good word for this.

"Overtuned" could be a useful word, if you meant to say it's too balanced, and now it's uninteresting and not special. But that's not how people use it. They just mean "overpowered". Like, "this hero is so overtuned, they're basically a must-pick."

Is this asmongold's fault? I don't watch asmongold content but I have a feeling this is his fault somehow.

The "difficult controls" debate really fascinates me with this game. It's gotta be over 50% of players, who have this opinion. Meanwhile for me, it was the most intuitive controls I could imagine.

(It's literally just standard dual-analog FPS controls, along with some 100% optional buttons you don't need--but are nice, once you eventually want them, like the RTrigger thrust, and the A button "match velocity of target/crosshair").

So, my guess is, it's NOT the controls at all, but it's the momentum--specifically these two features:

  1. There is no maximum speed: If you keep pressing forward, you'll keep going faster and faster.
  2. You cannot stop on a dime: If it took you 30 seconds to reach your current speed, it will take you 30 seconds to stop!!
As a result, to reach any destination without crashing, you have to begin to stop when you're only halfway to the destination.

That's the stuff is very unlike other first person games. It's also the part they do not tutorialize. They do tutorialize the controls in the zero gravity cave, but they don't tutorialize how to stop!

BTW for anyone that likes this album, and hasn't heard the Acoustic version of the album, I super recommend it!

It's not a simple live unplugged thing, they went all out, in-studio. The songs were significantly rearranged/reworked/rewritten to have a different (usually darker) vibe, taking advantage of loud reverberating acoustic guitars that sound huge, and sick af.

In general I think it's better than the original, except perhaps Hand in my Pocket which sounds a lot sadder. Also they added actual instruments to "Your House" (the secret track) and turns out, that's a good song.

It's on most streaming services I think--in Youtube Music, it's the later tracks on the "Collector's Edition", the one with the brown/tan cover image.

Ohhhh this is one of my favorite albums, top 5 I think!

I always loved the singles in the 90s, but never heard the album, until one day in 2016 or so, I was reading the tracklist, and thought "wait those were all on ONE album???" That's as many banger hits, as like, Nevermind!

So I tried out the full album and fell in love, hasn't really left my rotation since.

1. You Learn - Love everything about the song, especially the chorus's beautiful message, delivered with sicko mode over-the-top vocals.

2. All I Really Want - This song goes all over the place, especially the vocals, which get downright weird. Lots of parts, very unpredictable, this song never gets old for me.

3. Hand in My Pocket - Extremely simple chill song instrumentally, but, she makes it exciting by going all over the place with the vocals. Very cool combination.

4. You Oughta Know - I've gotten chills every single time I've heard that last verse after the bridge, the one with scratching the fingernails on someone else's back. This song is almost *too* intense for me, which actually brings it down a few points.

5. Not the Doctor - Love her sarcastic style of singing the sassier lines, love the weird bouncy guitar strumming, and most of all: love the 2 drum hits before "Visiting hours are 9 to 5..."

6. Right Through You - Lots more of the jokes she delivers in that sarcastic-singing voice I love--that voice epitomizes this album, for me. But, Not the Doctor has the fun strumming, so it goes higher.

7. Head Over Feet - Love trying to sing this one, great lyrics, that warm my heart. I've heard this song might have popularized the term "friends with benefits". Fun harmonica during the instrumental.

8. Ironic - Sooo fun to sing along to. And the lyrics, so legendarily bad/good, I love them. BUT, minus points, because the chord progression kinda sounds bad, IMO.

9. Forgiven - Each verse starts chill, but builds in a pretty cool "menacing" way, towards the chorus. Love the last few chords in each chorus near "so we diiiiid".

10. Wake Up - It's kinda weird, but I like it. The "get up, wake up" part at the end is good.

11. Perfect - The complaining-about-parents lyrics are pretty cringe. I do like how it keeps adding layers/instruments/anger throughout, but it doesn't give me goosebumps or anything.

12. Mary Jane - Kinda depressing, ugly, and repetitive, but I think it was meant to be all of those. I respect it as an experiment, but I don't love listening to it.
